Just in case anyone there has ever had a statistics class

Yahoo has an article up on why it's better to lose the toss than win the toss

While I am sure it will drive some eyeballs to their website, it irritates me when this type of junk gets passed off as having any type of validity.

Of the 43 Super Bowls, the team that won the pregame coin toss has won 20 times and lost 23, a .465 winning percentage, and has lost 10 of the last 13. The Arizona Cardinals won the coin toss last year in Tampa, Fla., and, trying to buck history, became the first team to defer. Didn't matter: They lost, too.

Technically, there could be something to it... I didn't read the article, but losing the toss (in years past) generally meant getting the ball to open the second half. Possessions later in the game become more valuable, in a way.

At any rate, it is pretty lame to play this off as some sort of evidence.

Well there you go then. I'll stick around for the t-t-t-toin coss, and since I'll know who will win after that, change over to figure skating or a Lifetime movie or the Sewing Channel or something. No need to watch the rest.

They are just trying to come up with a new angle of the Super Bowl to write about, however lame it might be.
