Deciding on Draft Picks for the next year (1 Viewer)

I am the commissioner of a 12 team league that has been going on for three years. Usually, we decide draft picks by just going reverse order in standings from the last year. (ie last place gets first pick, first place gets twelfth pick, etc.). When teams drop out and new players join the league, we just stick them in the draft slot the old team would have been in. However, this year the player who dropped out finished last, so he would have had first pick and the new team is supposed to get first pick going by our rules. Everyone is telling me that we can't just let someone walk in the league and get first pick, and that we should do some typer of lottery for it. I really don't see a huge advantage with first pick, and I would rather keep it the way it is by just letting the new team have first pick. What my question is is that i'm wondering am I wrong in thinking that giving first pick to the new person is ok? And how do your leagues decide on draft slots for new teams in the league?

Thanks in advance

I think the pick stays with the team. These guys are just trying to weasel into the 1st pick. Pretty lame if you ask me.

If it is a straight redraft league; just run a lottery every summer. For serious football fans, a fantasy draft lottery in the middle of June/July is a fun event. Don't reward the horrible teams with the top picks, replace them with better owners (or get them a FBG subscription) if they can not keep up.

Ah...this is a redraft? Well crud, do whatever you want. What difference does it make. Personally I do a random draft order generator every year. I don't really see the rationale behind going by won/loss the previous year in a redraft.

I personally wouldn't cry over not having the first pick, I really don't like it, the new guy shouldn't care and play it that you are giving in to the league for this change so later when you have to make a decision, "hey, I gave you guys a chance at first pick, this time I have to rule this way." Shouldn't be a big deal, pick your battles.
