Defensive Tackles.... (1 Viewer)

Can anyone name some 2nd or 3rd year players that could break out this year at the DT position?

My current Lineup is:

Roderick Coleman ATL

Bryan Young NO

Barry Coefield NYG (RFA)

Jonathan Babineaux ATL

Just lookin gto build this for the future.

All those guys are taken.

Looking for some deeper talent that no one might know of.

Thanks for the input so far.

I'm in the process of bidding for T Sands but it's getting to expensive!

After last year's "face rake" fiasco and suspension, Haynesworth was forgotten. He's not a sack freak, but his tackles are solid.

Cory Redding is expected to start at DT next to Shaun Rogers. He started 5-6 games at tackle last year and played very well. Well enough that the Lions are expecting to place the franchise tag on him.

He may also go outside to replace John Hall. But if they are in a bidding war over Sands, I would guess Redding is long gone ...

From everything I read here, the Lions are definitely planning on playing him at DT.

Probably a tier or two below most of the names mentioned, but Kedric Golston in Washington was impressive last year at times, and there's a lot of age in front of him which means he figures to win a starting job there this year next to Griffin.

Williams is already gone.

Golston is available and I just placed a PS bid on him.

Thanks guys for all the input.

It's greatly appreciated.

Add - Sione Pouha. Jets

I liked him enough to pick him up late in the franchise draft last year, and again this year.

IIRC, it was Rovers who commented that he would have started over Robertson had he stayed healthy. Perhaps he could elaborate on expectations for next year.

Good list so far. I think Kedric Golston fits your profile well. Ellis Wyms is probably not available, but maybe somebody dumped him after his late season injury. Other guys that are worth paying attention to during the pre-season:

John McCargo (BUF) -- IR'ed early with a broken foot, Bills spent a high pick for him and will want to prove they were justified. Likely in rotation early but could get the majority of the undertackle snaps if he proves himself worthy.

Rod Wright (MIA) -- Another injury special. Scouting report read like a perfect fit for a penetrating, pass-rushing tackle last year. Vonnie Holliday may be around for 2007 so he's no lock to play much, but he's still worth watching.

Claude Wroten (STL) -- Was impressive in limited time last year. Saw some snaps at end but is likely to be a tackle long term. Good skill set, good scheme. Could be solid value if he gets the playing time.

I wouldn't be real high on Sands, Pouha, Ngata or Cody. They're all slated to see most of their time at NT for now. Sands would be the only one I'd consider rostering and only in the deepest of leagues.

I would have thought Cody would do alright next to Shaun Rogers, if Redding signs elsewhere.Robertson did alright in FF as a NT last year, I'd think Pouha would have a chance to do as well. Besides, just saying his name makes me smile. :bag:

Oak - Hawthorne, he was highly thought of when he came out a few years ago but was dinged in the draft by drug problems I believe. With Kelly supposedly moving to DE and Sands playing DT/NT, I think Hawthorne will be in a rotation with limited snap icon Warren Sapp. He hasn't done much so far though.

I assume NOS' Hollis Thomas is not available. He was suspended but would be top ten if those games met his average per game.

You should make sure TBB's Wyms is on a roster. He took the starting spot after McFarland was traded to IND.

Seattle - Bernard and Marcus Tubbs are there and both had big years in 2005. Tubbs was injured in 06, so consider him if he was dropped.

Tennessee confuses me. Of course Haynesworth is there and he is on a roster. However, Robaire Smith was signed very late in the preseason and worked his way into the rotation more and more. He was top 30 DT in 04 and top 15 in 05 for Hou. TN also has one of my deep sleepers in Jesse Mahelona. This guy was supposed to be a stud coming out and I look for him to come on when given the chance. But I don't see him getting it unless Haynesworth moves on.

Houston also offers opportunity. I assume Travis Johnson is gone. Payne had a top 12 05 year but was injured in 06. You might consider him if he was dropped. Hou also has Thomas Johnson, who might be relegated to backup to start 07.

I tried to provide names not already mentioned.

The guy that's on no one's radar is Cory Redding DET who's being carried in all leagues as a DE.

Redding will 1.) move inside in '07 and 2.) stands a reasonable chance of getting the Franchise Tag.

He's there in all leagues and will pair with Rodgers. The main difference between Redding and other DT's is his sackability.
