Deion Branch Injury Update (1 Viewer)

From RotoWorld:

Deion Branch is expected to miss two games after suffering a mid-foot sprain in Sunday's loss to Pittsburgh.

Seattle expects Branch back after its Week 8 bye, along with fellow Week 1 starter D.J. Hackett (high ankle sprain). The loss of Branch is terrible news for Matt Hasselbeck, who looked lost without him for most of the game against the Steelers. Ben Obomanu, Courtney Taylor, Nate Burleson, and Bobby Engram will try to pick up the slack. Engram stands to benefit most in fantasy leagues.

Yes, and look at Ben Obumanu as a possibility, but only for the next 2 weeks.

More troubling is that Mack Strong is out for the season. Probably a career, as this was most likely his last anyways. Alexander's value goes down, since now he will crumple even faster, which I didn't think was possible. Weaver might get a little more valuable now but his pass blocking could drop Hass and the WR's value down. After the bye week though, with Hackett and Branch back, I would expect some second half fireworks as Holmie will be able to use the 4 WR sets he likes. And the next 2 games are both very winnable without Branch and Strong.

Thanks for the update. Engram and Burleson may be good bye week filler for folks, as they may not be rostered in all leagues.

Seahawks play the Saints next Sunday night. I think Engram has WR2 upside in that game given how bad the Saints' pass defense is. Burleson is worth a flyer as a WR3 in my opinion.
when will the injuries stop
I've never had a season where so many of my top guys all got hurt. Truly amazing.

FWIW, I was at the game this past sunday and Ben Obamanu was getting alot of looks.

What does this mean for Hasslebeck's prospects? Negatives:

* Weak run game (blame the OL or Alexander, I don't care).

* Loss of WR depth.

* Weaker OL play (granted, the pass protection has been pretty good, just not 2005 good).

I picked up Hasslebeck this season betting that the run game would struggle and he would pass more. But with Branch and Hackett out, I don't know if the team can do well in the pass game. In this copycat league, why wouldn't every team drop back 6 DBs like the Steelers and challenge the Seattle WRs to get open. Hass had lots of time to throw on Sunday, but nobody could get open.

I'm thinking it's time to sell Hasslebeck. Or bench and wait for Branch and Hackett to come back.

There's no question losing Branch is a huge blow but at home against the Saints and their terrible defense is still a very good matchup for Hasselbeck in my opinion. Unless you're David Carr, you can make plays against the New Orleans secondary. Even without Branch I think Hasselbeck is a good starter this week if you'd normally start him.

David Carr came back out on the field in the second half, and made some plays with a hurt back while in terrible pain. He doesn't deserve to be criticized for that game, and he did help them get a win. I'm sure he gained a lot of respect from his teammates for toughing it out, and playing through that pain.

I give him credit for his toughness. But he had a poor game against a bad pass defense. The guy is an awful QB. That's the long and short of it.

He will get better once he has more time to work on timing and chemistry with his teammates. Hopefully Jake will tell him that when he sees Smith beat someone right off the bat, just sling it up in the air down field, and Smith will be down there to catch it. That's what Jake has always done.

Anyone have any info on Oba-wan?
Good character guy, somehow, from the U. 7th roundpick last year made the PS. Won the 5th WR spot in preseason where I thought he looked as good as Burleson. Fast, had some good kick returns. Plays "hungry" like Hackett does. Seems like he has the goods to be solid. I'm actually excited to see him get a chance to play. Doubt he's worth a pickup unless you're hopelessly desperate since both Hackett and Branch will be back after the bye in 3 weeks. But I would be surprosed if he doesn't have around 100-120 yards minimum and a TD in these 2 games.

Good info - thanks. Unfortunately, I'm in that hopelessly desperate camp, so I may consider picking him up for a few weeks.

He's from Auburn.

Hmm, who am I thinking of then. Other than the college, everything else is right.

I have Branch on my roster but I'm beginning to think that he should be cut. Don't get me wrong he's got talent, but he's my WR3 and I only planned to start him during bye weeks, which is not going to happen. I picked up Crayton and he has done nicely in the meantime. I can't trade him for anything and considering he's not due back until week 9, that leaves me with 3-4 weeks to play him left in our regular season.

Is anyone else thinking along these lines. Is he worth holding on to? I'm really torn on this guy.

The No. 1 WR in this offense has Top 20 potential in my opinion. Branch was huge in his games after Week 1 before getting hurt and Engram put up a huge game Sunday night. Branch will only miss one more game by all indications. I'd have to be unbelievably stacked at WR to even consider cutting him.

Agreed with the potential. But I'm sitting here with R.Williams, L.Fitzgerald, S.Holmes, P.Crayton, & D.Branch. Does that qualify as stacked, I'm not sure, but I'm leaning towards yes.I will most likely hold on to him, just frustrated because he was putting together a nice run, and then got hurt.

I like a healthy Branch more than Holmes and Crayton (and I'm a huge Holmes fan). If he's healthy, I think he's a Top 20 WR. He's talented, in a great situation and has proven this season he will put up good numbers.

That happens to almost everybody. Holmgren is dedicated to getting the ball to him, you're nuts to drop him. With Rattay in there, Branch is possibly your WR2 when he gets back.Unless you're going to pick up someone that gives you 10-15 points/game, hold him or trade him.

I wouldn't call having Reggie Williams as my first WR as being stacked. Yes, you'd be crazy to drop Branch. He will come back and be the #1 option with a weak passing schedule.

*shrug* I just took a stab at one since you didn't specify. You must be clear if you want effective communication.

LOL, I'm not sure anyone on these boards would call a group of WRs lead by REGGIE Williams as stacked. I kind of assumed that there is only 1 R.Williams worht talking about. Thanks for playing though.
