Demaryius Thomas (2 Viewers)

Who is the last rookie WR to be a fantasy stud his first year?
Calvin and AJ put up 1,000 their rookie years I believe.Bowe put up something like 990 his rookie year.Others anyone?*Edited to add*Michael Clayton had 1,000+ and Eddie Royal had 980. Colston got close to 1,000 or over as well.Boldin blew UP rookie year.

Im not sure that given the current state of how Orton spreads it around if he will be a consistent enough starter for you, even less so in PPR leagues.Lloyd and Gaffney, Royal, Decker , Dem Thomas. Messy.
Denvers only playmaker is Moreno, and the only one who has a shot like that to become another is Thomas. Playmakers make plays. Gaffney and Royal may get thiers but they are far from studs..., Decker? Lloyd? really?they need someone to replace Marshalls ability and presence bad, Lloyd will never do or be that.Decker, meh, not sold on him in the slightest.DThomas is a super sleeper and has a sweet schedule and was a high draft pick, so he will get a shot, riddle me this....If his foot was not an issue, would he even of be on the wire?
1. I'm gonna need to see Moreno make a few more plays before I'm ok with terming him a "playmaker"...at this point in his career, he looks like a guy who is good at taking what he can get, not a guy who can get more than that.2. Royal is a stud. He was severely under-utilized last year, that seems to not be the case so far in 2010. Let's not forget what he did in 2008 as a rookie.3. Decker has yet to catch a pass...i'm not sure if he has appeared in an offensive play just yet.

Since you follow the Broncos, what is your opinion of Thomas fantasy wise this season?

It can go three ways:1. uberstud, dominating defenses from here on out.2. defenses begin to adjust, DThomas hits rookie wall and peaks early, FF production wise.3. foot injury is re-aggravated. Knowing how McD handles pre-game injury info, this will be maddening all season.I'm in boat #2. I think that Demaryius is what this offense needs - a legit deep threat, someone who defenses need to game plan around. Of course, that will open up the rest of the offense and the rest of the team will benefit, even if Demaryius doesn't dominate every game. If I had to make a prediction as to how he ranks at the end of the season, I'd say WR3 range - WR30 or thereabouts.

Didn't Eddie Royal catch 91 passes as a rookie?

#3 isn't exclusive with 1 or 2... his foot situation is my biggest concern. For anyone that can afford the roster spot and/or has a marginal player to swap out for Thomas, I think it's a good roll of the dice.

Do you think Thomas will be heavily involved in the Broncos passing game vs the Colts? I am tempted to stick him in my lineup this week.

I think this guy is the real deal. The only question about him was the status of his foot. He is a big, fast, physical talent. Prototypical NFL body. Denver kept his injury under wraps and IF he is able to work himself back onto the field and doesn't have any set backs he has the talent to be a stud WR, maybe even this year. I found an article that compared his measurable to other big receivers that I found interesting. On paper the guy is in the elite category and I was impressed with what he was able to do in very limited action week 2.

Dez Bryant 6' 2" 215 4.55 40 time

Demaryius Thomas 6' 3" 229 4.38 40 time

Calvin Johnson 6' 5" 236 4.35 40 time

Brandon Marshall 6' 4" 230 4.53 40 time

Andre Johnson 6' 3" 223 4.41 40 time

i'm like #10 on the WW priority and am looking at kevin walter (inconsistent, but nails when he gets his) vs. dthomas....how would you rank the two never having seen dthomas play?

I think Thomas as a ton more upside. He has true #1 WR potential. Walter doesn't and will always play second fiddle to AJ.

And in addition to this, Walter has 13 receptions.....on 13 targets. Obviously, he's not going to keep up his current pace of catching 100% of his targets.

Andre Johnson is the best comparison from a physical and skills stand point. I don't want to say he will be as good as AJ. But I do think that is his upside if he could reach his full potential. The fact that this guy has one of the best heads on a WR makes me think his chances of at least getting close are excellent.

Is he a stash or a start after catching 8 balls last week?
Indy is going to score a lot of points because they always do. Denver is playing at home and should be able to keep up (somewhat). I see Orton throwing the ball 40 times (threw it 41 times against IND last year) so I say he is certainly a start.

I was wondering the same thing, how many of you guys that snagged him this week are starting him and which player are you starting him over.

starting Thomas over Lee Evans and Michael Crabtree

if I had him, I'd start him with confidence this week. Denver O is going to open up a can of whoopass after dealing with the loss of McKinley. That, and there isn't very much film on DThomas just yet.

Is he the "starter" or will Thomas play in 3 WR sets? Does he take catches from Gaffney or Lloyd?
no one will know until the game is well under way. McD isn't the kind of coach who likes to broadcast what he wants to do. Last week he did not start, what ever that's worth.

Starting him over Pierre Garcon (blah). Keeping a close eye on Ochocinco though, I have T.O. on the bench.
It's either Thomas or TO over Garcon for me, too. I'm worried that the Carolina-Cincy game might be a FG snoozefest.

Can you show a link for this? I thought his 40 times were not nearly this good. Or is it more of what he was "reportedly" running?

The Broncos never officially timed Thomas in the 40-yard dash (his foot injury kept him out of the combine and pro day), but coach Josh McDaniels said Monday that Thomas is among the fastest players on the team. Thomas said his fastest 40-yard dash was a 4.38 he clocked while training in Arizona before breaking his foot. That would compare favorably with the fastest players in the game.

Dang AJ is only 6' 3" 223...he plays like he's 6' 5" 245 to me...the guy is a beast

Great article here: http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci_16129521 Lot of good snippets, here's one on his 40:"The Broncos never officially timed Thomas in the 40-yard dash (his foot injury kept him out of the combine and pro day), but coach Josh McDaniels said Monday that Thomas is among the fastest players on the team. Moleculo, we are in the same boat.

I posted this on the Assistant Coach forum if you are interested in seeing it. http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...howtopic=557507

Wow is all I can say. Forget that line about stashing him. Hes there #1 WR in his first game. 97 yards , 8 receptions and a TD. Hes probally a #2 fantasy WR alrady and will be a major if not top pickup this week.
I love this forum.
