So level 1-1 is pretty much the hardest level since Ghost'n'Goblins? I have to make it all the way to the boss AND win before I can ever save my progress and more importantly, level up?

Do far I'm LOVING this. Right now I have half of the first level cleared and I need to fight that tough spear dude on top of the bridge. I thought I had him beat last time and he 1-stand me after I repost'd him.

Other then getting used to the ps3 controller the game feels great. It might even have better play control then Dark Souls on the 360.

Ghost'n'Goblins was crazy hard. don't think I ever beat that game :violin:
It wasn't easy. A friend and I did beat it. The hardest part is the level with the dudes who can take what seems like 500 lances before they drop. I think it's the third "level" ?

did you ever play Kid Nikki
Yea.I remember there was some Easter egg where you could go inside a fish or somthing. Old games with hidden secrets that are nearly impossible to find are so awesome. Another reason why the Souks series are so awesome- they're riddled with secrets.

I realize I might be the only one posting but dammit - I'm keeping up the good fight that I can drum up some interest in the Dark series.

My ####### god this game is great. Besides Dark Souls I have not played any games that have offered this much of a reward for completing a level/board/stage.

So far it seems harder. You fight far more enemies at once and the inability to level up before completing the initial level 1-1, is asking a whole lot of new players. Great feeling when you finally muscle through- I literally yelled when I beat the boss. :bag:

That part is tough. On the other hand, you're never very far away from the Nexus in this game, so once you get past 1-1, it's comparatively easy to level. There are also some good grinding spots that are better than anything in Dark Souls.

You'll never find yourself way down in Tomb of the Giants wanting to go back to Firelink and facing a long slog either way. This is smaller world.

I find that the checkpoints feel farther along and the item which takes you back to the nexus hasn't been plentiful as homeward bounds seem to be. This whole world tendency thing has me :loco: .

So... If I want to go white I should just die in the nexus and then beat the level - regain my human form - go to nexus to "save" then to rinse and repeat?

I love the entire Souls series. One thing to remember in Demon Souls is that world tendency matters. A white world is much easier but a dark world has better drops but harder enemies.

The storyline is very good but nothing can touch Dark Souls as far as storyline.

Not sure what you are asking.

Dying on a level turns it Dark.

Killing a area boss turns it white.

The world tendency does not change until you go back to the nexus.

Certain events are only available in white or black world tendency.

PS: My favorite level is soul games is Tower of Latria.

Yep. Dying while in human form darkens the world in which died. Beating bosses whitens the world.

When you get pure black world tendency, a new set of "black phantom" enemies spawn. In some worlds, that also causes some special non-respawning mini-bosses to spring into existence. For example, if you turn 4-1 pure black, a special swordsman will now appear at the very beginning of the level, making it literally impossible to progress unless you can beat him (he is tough). On the other hand, pure black WT also gives you more souls, and some of the black phantom enemies can be farmed on NG+.

I forget all the details because it's been a while and its complicated. The main thing is that there's a good reason to play in soul form all the time besides just invasions (I don't even know if the servers are still up). When I was playing, I would save a bunch of the turn-back-into-a-human items so that I could deliberately die a bunch of times if I wanted to reach PBWT for grinding purposes.

Do not mistakenly hit one of the guys sitting in the hub! I did that when I first played by mistake and has to start over because I don't think he would talk to me any more.

Servers are still up. In 16 minutes I drop my girls off at ballet/ thecwifecreleves me and it's Souls tiiiiiiiiime !!!!!!

Yeah, on one of my runs I accidentally clocked the chick who sells Firestorm. That sucked.
I did this a few times in Dark Souls so I know better. Lol- I had to restart my very first game because I couldn't beat the Crestfallen knight and he wouldn't leave me alone!!!!

Ok so am I wrong in this line of thinking???

Go into level - die a few quick deaths - go back to nexus - turn world black - return to world- reap benefits and extra souls- then beat level return to nexus and world goes white again?

I have yet to start the game but saw this on GameFAQs:

Pick a Royal or Soldier for an easy time starting out, magic or melee respectively. Remember that you can attack using your rapier or spear while your shield is raised, respectively.

Get a shield that blocks 100% of melee damage, such as the Heater Shield sold for 2,000 soul in the Nexus.

Do not leave 1-1 until you get the Cling Ring. When you get to the top of the wall in 1-1 and fight that Blue Eye Knight in front of the fog gate, go past that gate and descend the staircase in the room beyond.

The Ring of Herculean Strength lets you hold 50% more weight in your inventory, which is handy when you try to pick up an item that is too heavy for you. Your character will auto-drop it and then it will disappear forever when you leave the area. The ring will let you pick that item up then you can head back to the Nexus to drop off your loot. To get it: when heading toward that Cling Ring, step out onto the balcony halfway down the stairs and cut the chains on either side. Get the Jade Hair Ornament from the bodies that drop and go visit Stockpile Thomas. If you keep using the Talk command until you exhaust all the conversations then leave and come back he'll ask for the Jade Hair Ornament and give you the ring in exchange.

A wand(Wooden Catalyst) can be found in 1-2, on top of the first guard tower. Remember that you'll need 10 Willpower/Intelligence to learn magic.

A Talisman of God can be found at the start of 4-1 to the right of the fog gate. Alternatively, at the start of 5-1 by dropping that board bridge in the beginning area. Likewise, Faith needs to be at 10 to learn miracles.

The Morningstar at the start of 5-1, near that same plank bridge that gives access to the Talisman of God, is quite handy for bashing in the skeletons of world 4(they are weak to blunt damage).

The Compound Longbow(best bow in the game when forged up) is found in 4-1, by climbing on top of the walls in the central courtyard. It is by the lone Skeleton Archer on the wall near the Vanguard mini-boss.

Just about everyone should look for the Crescent Falchion +1 in 4-1 behind the Black Dual Katana Skeleton as well, it does magic damage and has MP regen. Go into the wall at the first fog gate and turn left once past the trap pressure plate. You can use it to attack Bearbugs in 2-2 without wasting Sticky White Stuff.

Remember to keep below 50% Equip Weight if you want to roll fast, and you want to roll fast. The Ring of Great Strength under the Blue Dragon in the Dragon's Roost in 1-1 boosts equipment weight by 50% when equipped. This is handy for the Knights, who wear heavier armor.

The Purple Flame Shield in that same Dragon's Roost in 1-1, or dropped from Red Eye Knights, has an incredibly good hit resistance when forged up to +10. You'll be able to block power hits that would normally break your guard and blocking in general will take very little stamina. You'll need a Strength rating of 22 to use it effectively though.

In general, forging weapons and shields up to +3 early on is a great idea. Remember that you can get a ton of basic Ores by killing the one-time spawning Bag Holder Lizardmen in 2-1.

Females should get the Silver Bracelet to the left of the Legion monster in 3-1, down the hallway just before him and next to the full set of Fluted Armor. It only has 2 defense, but gives +20% souls from slain enemies.

Do NOT consume Demon Souls from the bosses, as they are used to make unique weapons or learn unique spells and miracles. The Hero and Soldier Souls on the other hand exist only to be consumed. So equip them to an item slot and tap Square like mad until they're gone(though you might want to save them for a rainy day when you get stuck somewhere).

There are something like 7 shades of white/black. I'm pretty sure that if you blacken a particular world at the beginning, it won't be possible to make it pure white just by beating bosses. Not sure about this though, and I'm not sure if that's something you would care about or not, particularly on NG. The special PW/PB events are easier to handle in NG+ IMO. Sorry this isn't very helpful, but world tendency is one of those things that you just kind of have read a wiki and figure out, and even then it's still kind of hazy.

Well I know it is not affected by leveling up. I have been farming the 6-7 skeleton dudes before the first gate in 4-1. I can about 3k per run right now. I can raise a level every 4 trips currently, but that raises another trip or so every other level. I'm being a little ##### and not advancing cause I don't want to die and turn the world black. Game mechanics like this world tendency crap wreck havoc on my undiagnosed ADD/OCD issues.

So any advice on char build? In Souls I went against the grain and went all STR in Souls. In this game I am going to take advantage of the magic (even if it appears at first that there are quite a few LESS spells).

My current stats:

VIT 21

INT 15

END 20

STR 15

DEX 12

MAG 12

FTH 11

LCK 7

Since I rocked a Black Knight Greataxe, I never got into the enchanting weapon stuff in Souls. So I'm likely going to focus on upgrading a "standard" weapon this time, unless you guys know if there is a be all weapon in this game?

Sorry if Im leaning on you guys but the official wiki for this game has been taken down. There just isn't a lot of relevant material on this out there. A whole lot of post from 2009 though.

There's no must-have weapon in this game (nothing like the Drake sword, for example). The closest thing is the crescent scimitar that the dual-katana skeleton in 4-1 is guarding, but it's not a must-have by any means; it's just a pretty good weapon that's conveniently placed. You can make all sorts of viable builds, and the stat requirements for most weapons are nowhere near as high as the were in Dark. For example, I think you can wield great axes with strength in the upper-20s, whereas some of those are like 50 in the other game. Don't hold me to the specific numbers on that.

As a side note, the best farming spot in NG is at the very beginning of 4-2 (it requires a decent bow). It's worth clearing 4-1 just to open up that area.

Yea I got the crescent falchion thing pretty early by climbing that wall after you clear the first 5 or skeleton knight guys.

Thanks again Ivan. You've been a big help thought this past year and a half.

Still playing this Steady? I just picked up a copy.
Huge fan of this game, but like every other Souls game it's so complicated that I barely remember the mechanics. All I know is beat 1-1 and then suffer through the first few skeletons of 4-1 for the crescent falchion.

Just trying to decide what way to go with a build. Will probably start as a Hunter or Royal. But I really don't know how I would handle a magic user. I like having a good ability with a bow and a melee weapon.

Been watching a few videos in preparation. I remember most everything I've seen. Still debating on starting class. Royal almost sounds as if it would be to easy early. Leaning towards Hunter or Knight as a result.

Made it through and took down The Phalanx without a single death. Went with the Knight. Do not like his complete lack of rolling ability as you start almost completely burdened. But he was effective. I have been disappointed at my ability to both backstab and block and riposte. I figured I would do better at it than I am. But I'll continue working on it.

Ah what the heck, I'll keep talking to myself. Suffered my first death just outside the fog to the Tower Knight. Running in to the pool of Archers along with the Blue Knight was to much for my early character. So I loaded up on wood bolts, climbed the first tower, and took out the Red Dragon. That allowed me to work my way over to the Blue Knight while taking out all it's support so I could defeat him. His buddy was easy to solo. Then I went in and took out the Tower Knight first try. So between the Dragon and the Tower Knight, lots of good leveling up today. But man, I don't see me ever being unencumbered with the Knight. And I don't like his fail roll at all. I'm a big fan of rolling in to attack position. May make it hard to stick with this character class much longer. I need to find some fair, usable lighter armor soon.

Was rolling through Stone Fang Tunnels. Am right outside the fog gate for the boss and had to shut down. Afraid to see how much I might have to retrace when I fire it up again. It's the only bad thing about these games. Wish it would just always pick up where you left off so long as you didn't die.

You were right Ivan. Went in and killed the armored spider first try. Oh, I also side-tracked and got the Crescent Falchion. So now I have to figure out what to do next. To be honest, I think I have expended what I remember from my first time through.

I remembered that I had never cleared out the Dragon Roost first time through 1-2, so I went back today after remembering I had killed the Red Dragon. Picked up a ring that reduces my burden big time. So went and farmed 4-1 just enough to level up twice, putting them both in Endurance. I can finally roll! I'll be heading back to 4-1 to see if I can get through those skeletons. Man they can be tough if they manage to get you 2 on 1.

Rolling through Shrine. Vanguard was easy with magic and arrows. Got the Adjudicator Shield, though I still like my Spiked +5 better. Sat up on top of the tower where you get the shield and picked off the Mantas. Also was able to snipe one Golden Skeleton down on the path. So I need to get through two more golds, the black outside the fog gate, and then to the big battle with the Adjudicator.

Just bought this ($10) and Dragon Age ($5) on a psn flash sale. Probably wait a couple of weeks before I start it, but looking forward to it after my nearly complete Dark Souls run.

Yea, I finished Dark Souls first myself. I must say, Demon's Souls is much, much easier going after having played Dark Souls. I have a much better concept of what works, what I need to do, etc. I've only done a few areas, but have only died twice I think. I had died a hundred times easy by this point my first attempt, which I gave up on before coming anywhere close to finishing. And that's playing with a harder character than I did the first time.

I loved, loved, loved Dragon Age by the way. Great game.

Adjudicator went down way easy. I didn't take a single hit. Fighting the Black Skeleton guarding the fog gate was a tougher fight. Now I need to figure where I am going next. So far, I have done 1-1, 1-2, 3-1 and 4-1. I will likely go back and do 3-2.

For whatever reason (mostly stupidity and bad play on my part), after rarely dying at all, I can not get past 4-2. I have died a dozen times or so trying to get past the dang ghosty things. I haven't even gotten to the annoying fire worms area. So admittedly, I'm pretty discouraged right now having this much trouble leading in to an area I know I don't like. So I'm putting the game away for now. Probably going to cross over to Diablo III which I got a good deal on at Wal Mart. So it looks like, at least for now, Demon's Souls wins again.

I made the mistake of thinking I had reset my mood after leaving for awhile and came back to try again. After losing a good 80k in souls, I found I was so very, very close to physically snapping the disc in half that I had to just put that one up. The best bet would be to just give up and go to another level. But it killed the mood for the game. So I'll just go on to another and come back to it in a couple months maybe.

In Dark Souls 2 the enemies disappear after you kill them X amount of times. Well I haven't been able to figure out where to go next for awhile so there is a thing that's called a bonfire ascetic. The bonfire ascetic lets you basically reset the entire portion of that particular map, essentially sending that area into NG+. You can do this as many times as you have bonfire ascetics, bTW.

So I used a couple of these things to farm and one time I nodded off for all of about 20 seconds. I awoke just in time to hear my character die the lava right next to the bonfire for the second consecutive time. 180k down the drain.

Later on that day I lost another 120k because my stupid whore wife started talking to me!!!! She knows the only game she cant mess with my on is Dark Souls!!!. Why?

Cause even she'll tell you.... There isn't a pause button in Dark Souls!!!!

I put the controller in the closet. Time for another break. The break over Lent did me a world of good. Tons of things I need to get done around the house. So rest awhile and come back later, refreshed. Metro Last Light or Diablo III though are more likely than DS though.

So after I beat Dark Souls, I gave Dragons Age a shot but got bored pretty quickly. I soon turned to Demon's Souls and I'm digging it. I just killed the first boss and am back at the nexus.

I'm a soldier and have been two-handing my ******* sword. Pretty much the same as Dark Souls so I stick with what works.

I'm still trying to figure out things, but I like the game. It feels a bit cartoonish maybe compared to dark souls. Cartoonish might not be the right word, but the graphics have a different vibe. Anyway, so far so good.

I absolutely loved Demon's Souls level design. It didn't have the same kind of brilliant world design of Dark Souls, but I thought each level kicked ###. This is in the top 5 games of last gen for me and I wouldn't be surprised if it was the one that I clocked the most hours on.

In fairness, it seems to be a common trend that whichever on you play first is your favorite. DeS and DS are both stellar.

I'm enjoying it so far - finished up 1-2 beating the big knight guy.

I like the level design so far. I mean having everything connected in Dark Souls is cool, but honestly a lot of it was connected by long elevators and stuff. What I mean by that is it wasn't necessarily seamless and Anor Londo was completely cut off. It was cool, but probably 50th on the list of things I liked about the game.

#1 thing for me in both is the epic bosses.

Enjoy it. It seems the difficulty ramps up pretty quickly. Went from destroying everything to not being able to complete a level.
