So level 1-1 is pretty much the hardest level since Ghost'n'Goblins? I have to make it all the way to the boss AND win before I can ever save my progress and more importantly, level up?
It wasn't easy. A friend and I did beat it. The hardest part is the level with the dudes who can take what seems like 500 lances before they drop. I think it's the third "level" ?Ghost'n'Goblins was crazy hard. don't think I ever beat that game![]()

Yea.I remember there was some Easter egg where you could go inside a fish or somthing. Old games with hidden secrets that are nearly impossible to find are so awesome. Another reason why the Souks series are so awesome- they're riddled with secrets.did you ever play Kid NikkiIt wasn't easy. A friend and I did beat it. That part is tough. On the other hand, you're never very far away from the Nexus in this game, so once you get past 1-1, it's comparatively easy to level. There are also some good grinding spots that are better than anything in Dark Souls.I realize I might be the only one posting but dammit - I'm keeping up the good fight that I can drum up some interest in the Dark series.
My ####### god this game is great. Besides Dark Souls I have not played any games that have offered this much of a reward for completing a level/board/stage.
So far it seems harder. You fight far more enemies at once and inability to level up before completing the initial level 1-1, is asking a while lot of players. I literally yelled when I beat the boss.![]()

You'll never find yourself way down in Tomb of the Giants wanting to go back to Firelink and facing a long slog either way. This is smaller world.
I love the entire Souls series. One thing to remember in Demon Souls is that world tendency matters. A white world is much easier but a dark world has better drops but harder enemies.I realize I might be the only one posting but dammit - I'm keeping up the good fight that I can drum up some interest in the Dark series.

So... If I want to go white I should just die in the nexus and then beat the level - regain my human form - go to nexus to "save" then to rinse and repeat?
Yep. Dying while in human form darkens the world in which died. Beating bosses whitens the world.I find that the checkpoints feel farther along and the item which takes you back to the nexus hasn't been plentiful as homeward bounds seem to be.This whole world tendency thing has meThat part is tough. Yeah, on one of my runs I accidentally clocked the chick who sells Firestorm. That sucked.Do not mistakenly hit one of the guys sitting in the hub! I did that when I first played by mistake and has to start over because I don't think he would talk to me any more.

I did this a few times in Dark Souls so I know better. Lol- I had to restart my very first game because I couldn't beat the Crestfallen knight and he wouldn't leave me alone!!!!Yeah, on one of my runs I accidentally clocked the chick who sells Firestorm. That sucked.Do not mistakenly hit one of the guys sitting in the hub! I did that when I first played by mistake and has to start over because I don't think he would talk to me any more.
Pick a Royal or Soldier for an easy time starting out, magic or melee respectively. Remember that you can attack using your rapier or spear while your shield is raised, respectively.
Get a shield that blocks 100% of melee damage, such as the Heater Shield sold for 2,000 soul in the Nexus.
Do not leave 1-1 until you get the Cling Ring. When you get to the top of the wall in 1-1 and fight that Blue Eye Knight in front of the fog gate, go past that gate and descend the staircase in the room beyond.
The Ring of Herculean Strength lets you hold 50% more weight in your inventory, which is handy when you try to pick up an item that is too heavy for you. Your character will auto-drop it and then it will disappear forever when you leave the area. The ring will let you pick that item up then you can head back to the Nexus to drop off your loot. To get it: when heading toward that Cling Ring, step out onto the balcony halfway down the stairs and cut the chains on either side. Get the Jade Hair Ornament from the bodies that drop and go visit Stockpile Thomas. If you keep using the Talk command until you exhaust all the conversations then leave and come back he'll ask for the Jade Hair Ornament and give you the ring in exchange.
A wand(Wooden Catalyst) can be found in 1-2, on top of the first guard tower. Remember that you'll need 10 Willpower/Intelligence to learn magic.
A Talisman of God can be found at the start of 4-1 to the right of the fog gate. Alternatively, at the start of 5-1 by dropping that board bridge in the beginning area. Likewise, Faith needs to be at 10 to learn miracles.
The Morningstar at the start of 5-1, near that same plank bridge that gives access to the Talisman of God, is quite handy for bashing in the skeletons of world 4(they are weak to blunt damage).
The Compound Longbow(best bow in the game when forged up) is found in 4-1, by climbing on top of the walls in the central courtyard. It is by the lone Skeleton Archer on the wall near the Vanguard mini-boss.
Just about everyone should look for the Crescent Falchion +1 in 4-1 behind the Black Dual Katana Skeleton as well, it does magic damage and has MP regen. Go into the wall at the first fog gate and turn left once past the trap pressure plate. You can use it to attack Bearbugs in 2-2 without wasting Sticky White Stuff.
Remember to keep below 50% Equip Weight if you want to roll fast, and you want to roll fast. The Ring of Great Strength under the Blue Dragon in the Dragon's Roost in 1-1 boosts equipment weight by 50% when equipped. This is handy for the Knights, who wear heavier armor.
The Purple Flame Shield in that same Dragon's Roost in 1-1, or dropped from Red Eye Knights, has an incredibly good hit resistance when forged up to +10. You'll be able to block power hits that would normally break your guard and blocking in general will take very little stamina. You'll need a Strength rating of 22 to use it effectively though.
In general, forging weapons and shields up to +3 early on is a great idea. Remember that you can get a ton of basic Ores by killing the one-time spawning Bag Holder Lizardmen in 2-1.
Females should get the Silver Bracelet to the left of the Legion monster in 3-1, down the hallway just before him and next to the full set of Fluted Armor. It only has 2 defense, but gives +20% souls from slain enemies.
Do NOT consume Demon Souls from the bosses, as they are used to make unique weapons or learn unique spells and miracles. The Hero and Soldier Souls on the other hand exist only to be consumed. So equip them to an item slot and tap Square like mad until they're gone(though you might want to save them for a rainy day when you get stuck somewhere).
There are something like 7 shades of white/black. I'm pretty sure that if you blacken a particular world at the beginning, it won't be possible to make it pure white just by beating bosses. Not sure about this though, and I'm not sure if that's something you would care about or not, particularly on NG. The special PW/PB events are easier to handle in NG+ IMO. Sorry this isn't very helpful, but world tendency is one of those things that you just kind of have read a wiki and figure out, and even then it's still kind of hazy.Ok so am I wrong in this line of thinking???
Go into level - die a few quick deaths - go back to nexus - turn world black - return to world- reap benefits and extra souls- then beat level return to nexus and world goes white again?
Well I know it is not affected by leveling up. I have been farming the 6-7 skeleton dudes before the first gate in 4-1. I can about 3k per run right now. I can raise a level every 4 trips currently, but that raises another trip or so every other level. I'm being a little ##### and not advancing cause I don't want to die and turn the world black. Game mechanics like this world tendency crap wreck havoc on my undiagnosed ADD/OCD issues.IvanKaramazov said:There are something like 7 shades of white/black. There's no must-have weapon in this game (nothing like the Drake sword, for example). The closest thing is the crescent scimitar that the dual-katana skeleton in 4-1 is guarding, but it's not a must-have by any means; it's just a pretty good weapon that's conveniently placed. You can make all sorts of viable builds, and the stat requirements for most weapons are nowhere near as high as the were in Dark. For example, I think you can wield great axes with strength in the upper-20s, whereas some of those are like 50 in the other game. Don't hold me to the specific numbers on that.Since I rocked a Black Knight Greataxe, I never got into the enchanting weapon stuff in Souls. So I'm likely going to focus on upgrading a "standard" weapon this time, unless you guys know if there is a be all weapon in this game?
Huge fan of this game, but like every other Souls game it's so complicated that I barely remember the mechanics. All I know is beat 1-1 and then suffer through the first few skeletons of 4-1 for the crescent falchion.Still playing this Steady? I just picked up a copy.
1-1 is going to kick your ### .Still playing this Steady? I just picked up a copy.
Man I hope you are right. That would be sweet.IvanKaramazov said:I think you do pick up right where you left off. It's not like when you die and have to start the level over again.
In Dark Souls 2 the enemies disappear after you kill them X amount of times. Well I haven't been able to figure out where to go next for awhile so there is a thing that's called a bonfire ascetic. The bonfire ascetic lets you basically reset the entire portion of that particular map, essentially sending that area into NG+. You can do this as many times as you have bonfire ascetics, bTW.I made the mistake of thinking I had reset my mood after leaving for awhile and came back to try again. After losing a good 80k in souls, I found I was so very, very close to physically snapping the disc in half that I had to just put that one up. The best bet would be to just give up and go to another level. But it killed the mood for the game. So I'll just go on to another and come back to it in a couple months maybe.
I'm enjoying it so far - finished up 1-2 beating the big knight guy.I absolutely loved Demon's Souls level design. It didn't have the same kind of brilliant world design of Dark Souls, but I thought each level kicked ###. This is in the top 5 games of last gen for me and I wouldn't be surprised if it was the one that I clocked the most hours on.
In fairness, it seems to be a common trend that whichever on you play first is your favorite. DeS and DS are both stellar.
