Demorrio Williams to Chiefs (1 Viewer)

Jene, weak weak post.........no analysis ;)
:lmao: :lol:I think the only place Williams was getting sniffs as a potential starter was in Chicago. When Briggs signed, Williams appears to have signed quickly with a team that has a scheme that would protect him well as a WLB and is close to home. I don't believe Donnie Edwards is going anywhere, so Williams will provide depth. We'll see if Herman Edwards has anything different to say.

to cut Edwards for Demo Williams would be crazy, only a stupid coach would do that.............in other news Herm Edwards is thinking of cutting Donnie Edwards ;)

on a serious note, its been written that they weren't happy with Harris in the middle and are concerned by Edward's age.

Could Edwards move into the middle and Williams go to the weakside? Can't see Williams play the middle, could he play that spot?

This has got to be the theory. Or Demo is slated to start in 2009 after they cut Edwards ... I dunno.

Chiefs agree to terms with Falcons linebacker

By ADAM TEICHER

The Kansas City Star

The Chiefs agreed to contract terms with linebacker Demorrio Williams on Saturday night.

The contract is for five years, is worth $16 million and contains $5.5 million in guaranteed money.

Williams, 27, played all four of his NFL seasons with the Falcons. He is a three-year starter at outside linebacker.

Williams will likely join Derrick Johnson in the starting lineup at outside linebacker with Donnie Edwards moving to middle linebacker.

Napoleon Harris will lose his starting spot. The Chiefs signed Harris as a free agent last year to be their starting middle linebacker, but they were disappointed in his play.

Williams was Atlanta’s fourth-round draft pick in 2004. He played in college at Nebraska.

Not a bad deal money-wise, but I'm not sure why KC would wanna move Edwards inside at Harris' expense. I didn't see a whole lot of the Chiefs in 2007, but from what I did Napoleon looked OK (maybe not great, but solid).

First glance this looks like a depth/competition move more than an outright changing of the guard, althogh I've been known (on occasion) to be wrong.

If Williams is slated to start (...which the $$$ says he will), I don't like this signing. Two of the Chiefs three LB's will be 230lbs or less. Couple this with their below-average DT's, and I think the Chargers, Broncos and Raiders running games are licking their chops.

Agree with all of this.I'm not aware of what the Chiefs didn't like about Harris' play, but I can't imagine Edwards would do provide anything more than a little better coverage skill in the middle. He certainly isn't going to be a more physical run stuffing presence.

As a Demo owner, I'm just excited that he has a new team. A very frustrating guy to have on the roster, let's hope he's boom or bust in KC, so I can cut him if he stinks.

tex called this in another thread "Having gone to school at Nebraska, KC would be like home to Williams. Don't know how he would fit there but I'm sure it is probably a favorite to him".

I would think he battles Edwards for a starting spot.

Chiefs need some unmovable DTs in order for Donnie Edwards to be effective in the middle. With the youth movement going on, I can see him cut or traded for a low-round pick. Might be time to sell, something is brewing with this signing
