Who knows how long Hartwell is going to be out? This guy is always hurt.

It doesn't matter If Demorrio Williams sucks, if he is the starting MLB again than he is going to put up big tackles.

Hartwell will be out until week 4.

Demorio Williams will be playing weak-side and Brooking playing middle.

RAPTURE

And the real key is start Deshaun Foster and all other RBs playing the Falcons ...

Demo = Bad Run Defense

Not According to this Sep 7 Atlanta Falcons LB Edgerton Hartwell (knee) is likely out until Week 4. LB Demorrio Williams will start with LB Keith Brooking moving to outside linebacker.

"This" is wrong -- unless the blurb has a link that supports that assertion. Please post if it's not just a typographical error from the source.Brooking to MLB. Williams in at WLB.

Agreed. If brooking already plays OLB, how can he then "make the move" to OLB?

Here we go, week 1 of the 'what in the world is going on with KC LBs....' Monday night against SD is such a juicy matchup. Any new info on this situation?

Q: What’s gotten into LB Demorrio Williams? He’s had three sacks in the past couple of games. Is it scheme, is it him, is it both?

HALEY: “I don’t know that you say that anything could get into him because he was one of our more productive players last year. He consistently was at the top of that stat sheet as far as getting to the football, making tackles, making plays, he’s a run-and-hit linebacker that like I said last night, he really likes to play football. He’s into it and last night we were able to give him some shots as a rusher and I think he was excited about that, at least from my vantage point and it showed up in some production here, which is good because that’s an area that however we create sub-rushers, whether they’re defensive linemen or linebackers, we need more. I think we’ve got one real good one in 91 (LB Tamba Hali) and then I think we’ve got a bunch more potential and Demorrio it looks like he likes that, he’s relentless, he’s going to keep coming and he has a knack for making plays so he’s trying to get in that mix. It comes down to the more you can do and the more you can get on the field, I think that’s a good example of it.”

Q: Seems like you’ve given him more opportunities to rush. What have you seen out of him, obviously he’s been productive but what have you seen from him now that he’s taken advantage of some of these opportunities?

HALEY: “I think that inside linebacker position in general has been very good competition, which I will say again is good for everybody involved, the team included because it’s a real competition, the guys are fighting everyday to get noticed and generally that brings out the best in people. Some of Demorrio’s production has come at the inside backer position and some last night came from a down position. I think Demorrio is the type of guy who is fighting every day to separate himself from the competition in any way he can and I think that’s shown up in practice and in games. I think that’s a good thing.”

Q: Has he separated himself? This was one of the closer battles in training camp, has he kind of taken a lead in the last couple of weeks against LB Derrick Johnson at the middle linebacker spot?

HALEY: “You’re saying that, I don’t know how you feel about it but I think that’s a real competition and I’m not going to say right here who’s in the lead, if there is a leader. We’ve got some more time here to get ready for San Diego but what Demorrio has done is separated himself in that rush position and that’s what I let all the guys know that anybody that wanted to jump up, raise their hand and get in that position as one of those four down sub-rush guys they could step up and separate themselves. I think that’s what he did a little bit of last night, which is real good.”

I watched the last 2 games and he lined up at DE on third down many times, he was effective at it so it may continue into the season.

He looked good doing this in the Packers game.

We've already had a long discussion about the changes PFF has made to their website earlier in the month. Moving forward, we'd prefer to keep the Forum discussions football related.

 Sidetracks threads with a valid football point? Makes the post count look like new information has been offered on topic when it's just complaining (albeit very innocuous) about no longer receiving a free service? The topic has a thread of it's own solely dedicated to said complaining? Just a guess. Regardless for those interested in the actual subject it's horribly annoying. For some reason I am still under the impression that Johnson is the more talented player. I don't know why any longer.Whether it's a lack of reps or simply being underwhelming, it's apparent that Williams has earned the more valuable role between the two players. 2 down LB that moves to rush end in the nickel could put up some very nice numbers. So far as I can tell Johnson will be almost exclusively a nickel backer. Pure speculation on my part, but Williams has certainly outperformed DJ over the last 2 weeks.

DJ56 to get the start Monday night according to Adam Teicher

http://www.victoriaadvocate.com/news/2010/...?sports&nfl

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Derrick Johnson's career in Kansas City hasn't yet been what he or the Chiefs hoped. But the inside linebacker and former first-round draft pick, buoyed by the news he will start Monday night's season opener against San Diego at Arrowhead Stadium, is convinced that's about to change.

"I think good things will still happen for me with the Chiefs," Johnson said. "It's (the last year of his contract) but I have a bright future here. The NFL is about seizing the moment. It's about what you do right now. I'm ready for it."

In what appeared to be an intense competition for the starting job on the weak side, Johnson beat out Demorrio Williams, who wasn't happy about the news.

Now this is :scared: .Color me stunned. In fact, I don't believe it yet. Even if DJ takes the first snap, I still think we see a heavy mix of Williams in base and sub packages. As a DJ dynasty owner I hope not, but I don't see any way Williams didn't earn some significant action.

surprising and disappointing for williams owners...

perhaps it shouldn't have been, as DJ is talented...

they were known to be battling for a spot...

the timing is a head scratcher, as williams is coming off 3 sacks in past few preseason games...

it will be interesting to see how the playing time shakes out...

perhaps williams is used in a situational pass rushing role... not as sure about the base D, now...

if DJ is starting i have a hard time not seeing him be a 3down LB'er as he was pretty great as a nickel backer last year. the playmaking stats he put up down the stretch were pretty awesome in the nickel role

i don't understand derrick johnson has been invisible in preseason, he only registered one tackle in the second and third preseason game, meanwhile Williams get 4 and 5 tackles including two sacks, is williams worth holding onto?
