Denny Green wants Edge to rush for 1700 (1 Viewer)

Just wondering if anyone else had heard this and if they put any stock in it. Coughlin said something similar about Tiki last year, when people were asking if he was durable enough to rush for 1500 yards again, and Coughlin said he'd like to see him rush for 1700. Well, that happened. Now Denny is saying he wants Edge to break the franchise rushing record, which is somewhere around 1700. Anyone buy this?

Key word; WANTS. You hear these kind of comments every pre-season. I don't think anyone is really questioning if the opportunity/carries/touches will be there, we're all questioning the ability of the offensive line / system away from Indianapolis. I'm not buying any sort of impressive yardage total for James this season, that offensive line is still a huge question mark.

I actually have heard some people whether he will get enough touches. I know the O-line is a big ? but it seems that Green is at least intent on featuring the running game.

I'm sure he'd love Edge to run for 2200 yards if he could, but obviously there are plenty of extraneous factors involved just to get to 1700 (field position, defensive strength, offensive line, etc).

They signed Edge to balance out the offense, so running more than last year seems to be a given in AZ this season. However, if Edge barely ran for 1500 yards last year on 360 carries in Indy's offense, I would probably expect somewhere south of 1700 in a Cards uniform this year.

The lack of a Chris Snee and Kareem McKenzie in Arizona kind of flattens that comparison for me.Cards will have a good offense, but their OL just isnt going to open the holes for Edge to grind out 1700 yards.

I could be way off on this, but I don't get the sense that Edge is overly concerned about being on a poor team with poor stats. Having that boatload of cash on South Beach is probably enough to make his gold mouth glitter.
