Denver RB situation (1 Viewer)

I have heard that Moreno is getting close to signing...however, lets assume the holdout lasts longer or has effected him enough that he cannot start the begining of the season. Who starts week 1?

I have heard positive things from Hillis, Jordan, and Buckhalter with Buckhalter have a great day 6 of camp.

Bronco homers have any thoughts?

Let's see, a couple of cast offs and a guy with marginal talent playing for a coach that used to coach for the Patriots? I gotta go with RBBC. Nobody will be worth starting. One guy may have a great game but get 3 carries the next week...

I wouldn't take one very early as I see this devolving into another RBBC. From what I have been reading, this is how I see it shaking out. Take it with a grain of salt since it is very early on and Moreno has been absent.

But as of now, it seems Buckhalter is getting the bulk of the carries with the ones while Hillis is lining up everywhere. Those two would be on my radar, especially in PPR leagues. Jordan may or may not be used in short yardage situations. From what I can surmise, Torain has flashed some talent some days and looked mediocre others. My guess is Hillis would be a great value if taken toward the end of a PPR draft. He's extremely versatile and has probably the best hands on the team. His tough inside running might make Jordan expendable too. Buckhalter has been playing an expanded Kevin Faulk-type role and has flashed a lot of speed especially on runs to the outside. He has been used in wild cat formations as well.

Not a Bronco homer, but seriously...Hillis isn't going to be a starting RB, the guy is a FBBuckhalter is running on a bad kneeJordan is probably the best bet of those three to see any real action, even with MorenoReality is that they're going to TRY to work Moreno in when he signs... he may not make it, but he will get the opportunity. I can see Moreno and Jordan sharing time all season long.

Hillis isn't going to be a starting RB, the guy is a FB

Buckhalter is running on a bad knee

The guy is not a FB and there have been numerous reports lately stating otherwise. He may be USED as a FB, but he most definitely has HB skills and I would guess from the recent glowing reports that if Moreno is out for any time that Hillis could be the lead guy.

While I don't think he'll be the lead guy with Moreno out, I do think he has carved himself quite a niche. He runs too violently to be a traditional leaed back, IMO and McDaniels has shown a propensity for playing a few running backs. Hillis will probably line up as a WR, TE/H-back while getting a handful of carries each game, IMO. He is one of, if not the, most talented back in camp right now. It's funny that someone would say that Hillis isn't a RB given that he was easily the best RB the Broncos had last year and has been probably the most impressive RB in camp for Denver thus far.

I actually agree with you 100%. Like I said, he isn't going to be the starting RB. He'll play a role given to FB/hybrid TE type players... HBack if you wish. But it's still not a starting RB role.

I want to see Moreno get signed and get into camp for a week or so before I make any predicitions as to how the RB situation will shake out. It wouldn't surprise me to see Moreno get into camp and start climbing up the depth chart immediately. I do think he'll be givin every chance to distinguish himself, but he's got to get into camp to take advantage of it.

Does anyone have any idea how many RBs the Broncos are liable to carry into the regular season? Keeping Moreno, Buckhalter, Jordan, Hillis, Torain and Darius Walker all on the active roster just doesn't seem possible.

May run more than they did, but yeah... that's kinda what I was thinking.

Yea, how many RBs do ya'll think Denver actually keeps on their team come time for final cuts??

I think Moreno has a pretty good hold on the job by the end of the season..maybe a lot earlier, depending on what he can do in camp when/if he gets there. I've got him on my team, so hopefully he pans out at some point.

I think Darius Walker and Torain are both on the bubble as far as a roster spot. If either one of them shine on special teams, then they have a chance to make the final roster, but if they suck on ST's then they will be gone. Torain was a shanahan guy, Mickey D has no loyalty to him.

Different coach, same result. The RB carousel that spins every year at Bronco's training camp. If we could only bottle up the energy spent trying to figure this out every year, we could light New York City. I stopped trying years ago. Let's look at the RB situations we have a good understanding of and leave the Denver mess to the nostalgic. The days of TD and Portis are over. It is an RBBC until a full season proves otherwise.

I hear you and I am sure many of us had suffered from drafting Maroney. It would seem very obtuse of a coach who was part of the committee involving Maroney, to draft a running back that would only be a cog in the offense and not a main weapon. I believe I saw McDaniels refer to Moreno as a 3 down back and I would think if McD looked at Moreno as just one of the guys, he would have selected another position of need and then draft a "Kevin Faulk" or somebody later.

Yeah, but this is the same coach that wanted Matt Cassel over Jay Cutler.

Whether or not you like Cutler personally he's still a very good quarterback. More than capable of doing anything that McDaniels had in mind.

Haha....so much for this, now that Moreno signed.

Maybe I should make a thread like this for Crabtree and he will sign that same day?
