Denver @ S.D. referee crew (1 Viewer)

Raider Nation

Devil's Advocate
Will be Ed Hochuli's crew, per Peter Brown on Sporting News Radio.

EDIT: Must have been an unfunny joke.

The NFL is begging for a controvesy. It will be either a vendetta against Denver, or a "make up call" for San Diego.

Only way to make this game more interesting than it already was would be to add this crew. Would appear to be a viewership move as this adds extra buzz hoping to get more people to watch.

I don't get it. Not that it's necessarily a bad crew or anything, but I don't see anything good that can come of it. The first marginal call that goes in the Chargers favor everyone & their brother is going to scream "omg obvious makeup call"; anything goes the other way and there's cries of him being on the Denver payroll...

Exactly. This is an idiotic move on the part of the NFL. Nothing good can come of it.

:lmao: They are putting themselves in a no-win situation. I'm really surprised they would be this stupid.

I can tell you right now the boos will be going on before the game, let alone a marginal call going against SD. It is going to be off the hook at the Q next week as it, this will just make it ridiculous.

Hochuli was pretty emotional about deciding the game like that. I don't see this as a good thing for him either. The guy is only human. I don't see how this doesn't turn into a circus.

This does seem like a move that belongs to the WWE more than the NFL, but I will say that there probably isn't any better way to legitimize the crew than to have them go into this situation and call a flawless game.

And now, EVERYONE will get to see it: Broncos-Chargers game moved to prime time

NEW YORK (AP) -The Denver Broncos and San Diego Chargers will play for the AFC West title in prime time.

The game next Sunday between the rivals in San Diego has been moved from 4:15 p.m. EST to 8:15 p.m. and will be televised by NBC as part of the NFL's flexible scheduling.

The Broncos blew an early 13-0 lead and lost to the Buffalo Bills 30-23 Sunday in the second-coldest game in Denver's history. It set up an all-or-nothing game against the Chargers next week for the division title and a playoff berth after San Diego routed Tampa Bay 41-24 earlier in the day.

The Broncos (8-7) led the Chargers (7-8) by three games with three to go, but now face the possibility of having led the AFC's woeful West by themselves from opening weekend through Christmas and missing the playoffs.

The flex scheduling was instituted with the new television contract in 2005 to allow more attractive games to be switched to prime time in the last two months of the season.

If I remember the protocols correctly, CBS gets to protect one game. I take it they protected Dolphins-Jets. This would be the obvious second best matchup.

I had joked about this in the other topic - I don't think the NFL will let the same crew do two divisional matcchups in a year.

No, Chargers fans, Ed Hochuli will not be officiating next week's game in San Diego.

John Parry's crew is scheduled to work the winner-takes-all game between the Broncos and the Chargers
That's too bad. I think the Hochuli crew usually does a very good job and wouldn't mind that crew working the game in the least. The fans on both sides would be sure to over-react to every close call but in the end I'm sure they would have done a very good job.

I'm really happy for Hochuli that the game is winner take all Sunday night. He's a great official who really blew it with that call. It almost helped send one team to the playoffs over the other, but now there will be no excuses.

Nobody should whine about it anymore. Settle it on the field Sunday or stay home. Glad it unfolded this way and kind of bailed Ed out a little.

if he had made the correct call, the chargers would have ALREADY settled it on the fieldthis just gives denver one more chance they don't deservealso, if chargers already had the division wrapped up, they could have rested some starters (or only played a half or whatever)instead they're just going to get more beat up before facing Indy (assuming they win at all)

If the Chargers were in 6 out of the 7 other divisions in the NFL, they probably would have already been eliminated from the playoffs so I don't feel sorry for them.

The ONLY shot the Broncos have is if the Chargers continue to blame Hoculi for all of their blunders this season and look back instead of looking forwards. You can dwell on that bad call, or you can focus on winning Sundays game.

Are you aware of the term "get over it"? Do you know how it works?
