Denver shows 3-4 looks (1 Viewer)

Denver apparently unveiled some 3-4 sets this week. Only saw a bit of the game, but it s/b an NFL Network replay, so I'm looking forward to catching it.

Webster and DJ inside, Bailey and Winborn outside. Don't know how much they used it, but it would seem a wash for DJ and Webster, bad for Bailey...i don't think he has upside as a rusher. Bad for Dumervil, he's not a NT and I dont see him playing with his hand off the ground. Good (well, anything is) for Winborn and Moss...they're value goes from nil to minimal. Moss was finally active, probably no coincidence since he was seen as more of a fit for at OLB in a 3-4 coming out of college.

What's the outlook going forward for these two? (DJ & Webster).

Thanks for the links, T.

Be interesting to see how this evolves. I wonder if the Broncos just saw this as a way to gameplan a team they weren't going to get much pressure on any way. The first 3-4 defenses were more containment than pass rush -- eight in coverage and outflank the ever more athletic running backs. Maybe they thought it was a way to bottle up Reggie Bush. If they wanted a big pass rush, putting Williams and Moss on the outside were probably better options than Bailey and Winborn. Aside from two long plays, it appears to have worked pretty well in the first half.

Just my guess, though. Regardless, there's even less pass rush potential in this group than they were getting out of their four man front, so I don't see it being a major impact. It is interesting that TD saw Williams inside, that could be a clue that the Broncos still see him as having ILB type talent. Probably no major impact in IDP terms for now.

The first couple series probably had New Orleans somewhat confused. It wasn't real effective after that, you had the Bush fumble Webster took to the house and Saints were stuffed on 4th down at the goal-line, which became a safety on the next play. New Orleans missed a FG in the closing seconds of first half also. Saints could have put up 30 in the first half. They were back in a 4-3 in the second half.
