Derek Anderson (1 Viewer)

The Browns seem to be much improved especially on the O Line. They have very good talent at skills positions TE (Winslow) WR (Edwards) and RB (Lewis) and their Defense sucks so they will be involved in a lot of high scoring games.

Quinn is a rookie so they will be in no hurry to throw him out there if Anderson is producing (Like Brees and Rivers in SD)

great analogy with Warner. That would ge great if he kept it up. I guess this week will tell the tale. If he even does half of last week, I say they found a good QB and Quinn better hire someone to break Anderson's leg.

lets not get too excited, hes coming off a game vs. the Bengals. I hope he does continue to do well though

Im a Browns fan, and I'd like nothing better than for this to be true. But, alas, I don't think it is. Anderson will be servicable for a while, but don't count on him to ever come close to what he did against the Bengals. I watched that game, and the Bengals just made it easy for the Browns. The thing I take away from that game is that you should always start any player going up against either the Browns or Bengals defenses.

No. He was playing so bad early in that game that I thought he was going to get pulled. He made some plays, but there wasnt really a truly outstanding throw in the bunch, and he still forced some wide open receivers to have to work for their catches. He came out of the gate hot with a valiant performance last year vs. KC, only to come back with a few OK games, and then a complete implosion vs. TB. He will oblige the Browns with a bad enough game to plug Quinn in the starting lineup by Halloween.

I'm a Browns fan too, Jedeye. If the line protects Anderson the same way they did last week, he'll range from serviceable to above average depending on the defense. Anderson has a quick release, picks up reads well, and is a lot more cerebral than Frye was.

What excites me is the fact that Brady's confidence must be through the roof right now. Whereas Tim Couch was thrown to the wolves way too early, had Terry Kirby and zero protection from the line, the elements are there for Quinn to succeed whenever the time is right for him (maybe after the bye). He'll have the whole playbook known and lo and behold, some weapons to take the heat off of him.

Sounds like we are on the same page. As everyone else has been screaming for Brady to play, I'm screaming NO! He needs to sit at least half this season before being inserted.

I think what the OP is saying is that if the offensive line proves that it has been dramatically upgraded by the offseason moves, it might be reflected in better play by Derek Anderson. So an implosion by Derek Anderson never happens. He's a pocket passer, so if the blocking is there, it plays to his strengths.

He's not even close. Nothing really resembles that situation. Anderson had exactly one good game which will be the best of his career by far.

Anderson raked up the yards because people were standing wide open in the endzone...lets see how good his decision making and accuracy is in a real game

The talent is there for him to succeed. Every week that goes by, the offensive line gets better/healthier.
Last week's game was the ugliest 5 TD game performance ever by a qb. His receivers were WIDE open and they still had to make great plays to catch the balls. If you watched the game then you know what I am talking about. If you just caught his stats afterward then your opinion is different. Frye getting demoted was no surpise to me. I have some insider info that Frye was not picking up the new offensive scheme installed by OC Chudzinski. This came from Chud himself thru a relative of his that I am close friends with.

 Anderson has 10 INTs in 178 career attempts. :yuck:

Listen to the guys above, as it appears they are the only ones that actually WATCHED Anderson play. I'm a homer and would love nothing more than to see Anderson do well, but he will throw to the other jersies too often to last very many more games. To put it in perspective I'm in a 12 team league full of Browns :D 's and Anderson is still sitting on the free agent list.

This is lunacy. Kurt Warner was a system passer who backing up Trent Green, who has to be the unluckiest man in NFL history or else he would have had the Warner glory. They played in the run and gun NFC West, domes and nice weather, Anderson plays in the AFC North with some stout D's and he couldn't beat out Charlie Frye Week 1. Once they fall out of it, Anderson could throw 20 TDs in the first half but the calls for Brady will get louder. I'll root for the guy, but to compare him to the ultimate lightening in a bottle guy, Kurt Warner, is crazy.

Saying "The Next Kurt Warner" is kind of a funny thing to say, because Kurt Warners only come along once in a generation. It's not like saying "The Next 3rd Year WR To Break Out" or "The Next Rookie RB To Get 1000 Yards".

Warner was in the perfect situation: up-and-coming team + great O-line + hall-of-fame WRs + hall-of-fame RB + injury to starting QB.

In order to have a "Next Kurt Warner", you must first find "The Next 1999 Rams" (i.e., a team on the verge of breaking through). You're lucky to have 1 of those teams per season, and the odds of that team losing its starting QB is astronomically low.

Cleveland is not the 1999 Rams.

Tony Romo is probably the closest we've had to "Kurt Warner" in the last 5 years. He took over after 5 games and led the Cowboys to the playoffs.

This is the real Derek Anderson. He had a great game last week, but the guy was walking INT machine in college.

Ok...what's the consensus on this guy now? He's the number 3 QB in my league and has been leading the team to wins. Does he keep it up? Is he someone to target in dynasty leagues? I can't believe how there is no real chatter on this guy....
