This will probably take until Sunday AM to figure out, but here it goes.

DeSean Jackson: Status Uncertain after Concussion - 11/30/2009 10:34:06 AM

Update:

It's not thought that the concussion Jackson sustained Sunday is as serious as the one suffered by teammate Brian Westbrook, CSNPhilly.com reports.

Recommendation:

"He's OK. He doesn't feel bad today. We'll just see how he does here," said coach Andy Reid on Monday. Reid added that he hasn't made any decision regarding Jackson's Week 13 playing status, saying, "no, we're going to continue to test him and go through the process." Expect this situation to be handled with caution, however, so for now, we'll consider Jackson questionable.
Jackson's status remains uncertain with concussion
PHILADELPHIA — Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson's status is uncertain after he sustained a concussion in Sunday's 27-24 win over Washington.

Meanwhile, running back Brian Westbrook will be re-examined this week after missing the last two games with his second concussion of the season.

Jackson was injured on a hit after running a short crossing pattern in the third quarter. He didn't lose consciousness and left the field on his own.

"He doesn't feel bad today," coach Andy Reid said Monday. "We are as cautious as they come with concussions. We're going to continue to test him and go through the process."

The diminutive Jackson — he's generously listed at 5-foot-10, 175 pounds — is susceptible in traffic because of his size. He leads the team with eight touchdowns, all of which are 35 yards or more.

"We'll just see how he does over the next few days," Reid said. "That hit was more of the shoulder. It really wasn't on the head."

The team expects Westbrook to see specialists this week in Pittsburgh. The doctors said they wanted to see Westbrook 2-3 weeks after their previous exam Nov. 18.

"I'm not sure exactly what step the doctor will take with him," Reid said. "I don't know that. We'll see what phase the doctor feels he's at and the doctor will determine what he will do. If that's going back on the field, we'll do that. If that's more conditioning work in the weight room, we'll do that."

Westbrook experienced a mild headache last week after a workout. The 30-yar-old former All-Pro sustained his first career concussion when he hit his head on a defender's knee during a Monday night win at Washington on Oct. 26. He briefly lost consciousness but walked off the field under his own power.

Westbrook returned against San Diego on Nov. 15 after missing two games. But he sustained another concussion when he got sandwiched between a blocker and a tackler on a screen play.

"I know a lot is being said about concussions," Reid said. "We are as conscious as they come with concussions. We are going to do everything within our power to get (Jackson) the proper treatment and diagnosis. To compare to Brian's, are we going to be more cautious? No. We're always cautious. We're going to do what we do."
Feel free to add updates.

With all the late focus on concussions I doubt he plays. Thats just my speculation however.
Scout.com's Adam Caplan calls DeSean Jackson (concussion) "doubtful at this point" to play in Week 13.Analysis: Caplan isn't reporting D-Jax is out and merely responded to a question on Twitter, but he is very clued in on most things Eagles. D-Jax is expected to be replaced by Reggie Brown at flanker against Atlanta. The Falcons are 27th against the pass, so both Brown and slot man Jason Avant would be serviceable WR3 gambles.

DeSean Jackson says, "I don't think I can go"

Posted by Mike Florio on December 2, 2009 8:36 AM ET

How quickly has the perception regarding concussions changed among those who follow the NFL? Already, there's a presumption upon learning that a player suffered a concussion that he'll be on the sidelines for at least a week.

It was the first thought that came to my mind upon learning that Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson suffered a concussion on Sunday against the Redskins -- primarily since Jackson is on my fantasy team in my family league, where if I win the response is "he should win since he follows football for a living" and if I lose the response is "man, you must really suck at following football for a living."

So, as expected, Jackson likely won't be playing against the Falcons.

But there's a twist. Instead of the Eagles shutting Jackson down, he seems to be shutting himself down.

"I don't think I can go," Jackson said Tuesday, per Sal Paolantonio of ESPN. "I blacked out."

As Paolantonio points out, Jackson's comments are the first evidence that Jackson was knocked unconscious when the 5'10", 245-pound London Fletcher blasted the 5'10", 175-pound Jackson after Jackson made a third-quarter catch.

The video suggests otherwise. Unlike running back Brian Westbrook, who clearly was knocked out the last time the Eagles played the Redskins, Jackson never stopped moving. It doesn't mean he didn't suffer short-term amnesia, but it appears that he never lost consciousness.

Moreover, Jackson's candor strikes us as unusual, especially in the wake of the controversy caused by Steelers receiver Hines Ward, who made it clear that many players continue to wear their willingness to play with a concussion as a badge of honor -- and that they regard those who won't as wearing a suit of yellow feathers.

Maybe Jackson's implicit message is that he's not going to do whatever it takes to play until he gets paid. Really, is it a coincidence that his comments came on the same day that tight end Brent Celek signed a $30 million contract with $11 million in guaranteed money? Unless and until Jackson gets similar financial security, why take any unnecessary risks?

We know that's a cynical take. But we also think that the agents of players who don't like their contracts might be realizing that this new sensitivity to concussions has given them a way to take a stand without risking any consequence.

Nothing new here but Mike Florio and PFT should be ashamed of themselves. The entire 2nd half of that article is completely unsubstantiated bullsh**.

So are we allowed to go on tangents in this thread and ask Philly homers what to expect from the likes of Maclin and Avant now? How much will the loss of a big play guy like Jackson hurt the Philly passing game as a whole?

Good for him for not playing. These players need to think about their long-term health. Big upgrade for Maclin, who should be McNabb's #1 target against a fairly porous Atlanta secondary. I read Avant was going to stay in the slot and Reggie Brown would be taking over Jackson's spot.

Eagles | Jackson not ruled out for Week 13

Wed, 02 Dec 2009 09:44:53 -0800

Geoff Mosher, of The News Journal, reports Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid said Wednesday, Dec. 2, that he has not yet ruled out WR DeSean Jackson (concussion) for the team's Week 13 game. Reid added that Jackson was making progress and will follow doctors' orders for the rest of the week in order to get back on the field. "He just has to make sure he does what (head trainer) Rick (Burkholder) and the doctor want him to do," Reid said. Reid left the door open that Jackson could play in the game, even if he misses the entire week of practice. Jackson will not practice Wednesday, Dec. 2.

This is a couple of days old now, but I remember Sal Palontonio talking on ESPN 950 (now also on FM 97.5) about Jackson. Supposedly in a conversation with Jackson he leaked that he had lost consciousness during the game and said he was not playing this week against Atlanta. I found this at ESPN:

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson, in his first public comments since suffering a concussion last Sunday against the Washington Redskins, says it is extremely unlikely he will play this Sunday in Atlanta against the Falcons.

"I don't think I can go," Jackson said. "I blacked out."

That is the first time anyone said that Jackson lost consciousness after the hit by Redskins linebacker London Fletcher in the third quarter at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday.

An Eagles senior official confirmed on Tuesday night that Jackson did in fact lose consciousness on the field on Sunday, and strongly suggested that the Eagles will be without their most explosive receiver in Atlanta.

I'm sure he'll be back next week, but boy a lot of people were loving that Atlanta matchup on carpet. D-Jax would have taken at least 1 to the house.

For some reason I am not as optimistic on his return for week 14. What's going on with Kurt Warner, and the NFL in general, makes me think DeSean could miss multiple weeks... but I am speculating. I understand that each case is unique.Anybody (homers?) heard anything legit? I hope he's back for weeks 15/16... :IBTL:
