DeSean...Smart play running out clock (1 Viewer)

A friend of mine (Eagles fan) can't believe that people are criticizing Desean jackson for zig zagging in what he describes as an obvious clock killing move. I say clock was a non issue and he's a P.O.S. that's made one bone headed move, celebration wise, after another. It would've been great if he slipped at the 2. What's the consensus?

The clock was already zero so... Of course, who knows if he knew how much times was left.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on this one. I still think he's a #### but in this instance you could certainly argue he did the smart thing.

Part of me thought he was looking back to make sure there were no flags so his celebration wouldn't be for naught.

Eagles won the game on that play. I don't care if it was showboating or not, the clock turned all zero's and the Eagles had more points. Great play by DeSean, great win for the Eagles. Two weeks in a row DJax has scored the game-winning TD. He can showboat all he wants in my book. And he did make reference to the game clock during his post-game PC.

That gave me 6 in my fantasy playoff game. I was totally waiting for him to get tackled on the 1 on that showboat :goodposting:

I thought he was trying to run out the clock but with his history I can understand why others think differently.

You are correct. In between his references to showboating, he did reference the game clock.

I love the Eagles, but I wouldn't mind seeing him get he head taken off on one of those little shows. Actually, I'd like to see him pull a Frerotte and injure himself when he is showboating so he can't blame anyone but himself. That guy needs a serious dose of humility!

As long as he keeps scoring game winning TDs, I'll take the showboating. I'm sure he's annoying though if he's not on your team.

Who cares about "showboating" its freakin professional football. Are we worried that he might hurt someones feelings I mean come on.

Is it showboating? Sure. Do i like it? Don't care either way.

My thoughts on it are pretty simple to be honest and alot have said it before: If you don't want to see it, keep him out of the EZ. DOES NOT hurt game at all, these flags for touching qb's breasts are what is killing it.

It looked like he turned around and looked up at the clock while he was running laterally, so I think he was trying to run out the clock there. Totally unnecessary in that situation, but I don't think it was a showboating thing.

The defense is paid to stop him. If they don't like it then do something about it. This isn't college sports. You don't like him showboating when he's going in the endzone, then stop him from getting there. Period.

I don't think it's as much to do with hurting people's feelings as it is with putting unnecessary risk on the outcome. Calvin already lost a game this year because he was too excited to get up and start celebrating. Suh almost lost another one as he showboated on his way to the endzone to wrap up a game and didn't see a guy come up behind him.

Yes, you already said that. I was simply pointing out that he admitted he was showboating. If I was an Eagles fan, I'd still find his antics annoying. I'd just root for him while he did them and enjoy the wins that come as a result. As an NFL fan, he's fun to watch until he gets to about the 10-yard-line. Then he turns into a type of bag.

I'm with this, and I'm a Cowboy fan. He's explosive and fun to watch. I couldn't care less that he falls into the endzone or tries to run out the time. The same people that loved it when Stokley did it have a problem with DJax doing it.

You're inviting penalties with that position. I think that's the attitude that invites all those late hits on Vick.(They don't get called and might not technically qualify for the penalty, but when I see Eagles games I see teams giving Vick a little extra whenever possible. They're doing "what it takes" to slow him down, or at least try). Personally, I find it sad that professionals have to look to college sports for lessons on how to behave. I don't care for showboating because it's a team game and scoring the points and winning the game and taking the division lead should be enough. "Hey look at me" shouldn't have to play into the equation.

He admitted to having some fun while making sure the clock ran out. A lot of top receivers have some diva in them. Desean certainly does as well. But he made sure the clock was all zeros and he said as much in his presser. I get it though, you don't like him.

I don't really care about whether showboating is sportsman-like or not. It's just stupid because it creates unnecessary risk.

I just watched the replay again multiple times and saw the following:

-He raises the ball above his head and starts celebrating before he gets to the 30

-Time expired before he even gets to the 20

So, it's showboating plain and simple. If he wanted run out the clock, he could have run around with it in secure manner. Not with one hand stretched out over his head.

Also, even if he was trying to run out the clock it was not a *good* play. Even if you want to claim that he was thinking about the right thing (killing the clock), the clock had run out way before he was near the endzone. So, the best one can claim is that it was a well-intentioned, bad play (because time would have run out if he had just run straight for the endzone -- so all he did was introduce unnecessary risk).

Not true. I don't know him and don't care about him one way or the other. As an NFL fan I like his talent and don't like his antics. That's it.The presser made it clear he had showboating on his mind. I can understand why an Eagles fan will excuse that (or a person who doesn't mind showboating will excuse it) but he admitted he wanted to show off some antics. That's how he is. It's not the first, second, or seventh time he's done it. It's true that a lot of top receivers have diva in them, but the ones I respect the most do a better job of remembering it's a team game. Not a huge fan of Owens' antics, either, but can't deny his talent as a game-changer. Same with Jackson.

But he also made it clear the clock was on his mind, right? So he made sure the clock ran out, and had fun. Sure its stupid, but they won. He's not going to change how he plays, so I'll just enjoy it.

Yes, he did say that. I'm taking into account the entire interview and his past antics. He also did a pause at the GL last week and I don't think he was trying to kill the clock. But you're right; he did say that and there was an issue where it could be a good idea to burn some clock..

It's clearly a smart play because he showed what could happen with time left, it worked, game over. I love all the crying from other fans about him, kid is a beast.

He was never in danger and in his mind the clock hadn't expired. Guy just made a massive play to win the game. He's awesome. They practically gave Brandon Stokely a medal for doing the same thing.

Stokely also wasn't known for being an idiot around the goal line. I will give him the benefit of the doubt here but you really can't question anyone thinking that he was being ignorant and showboating......again.

Whether you think that was showboating or not, there are not many players in the NFL who could return that punt for a TD the way

Jackson did. First off, he drops the ball allowing defenders to get closer to him, but he still manages to deke them out and out run

them to the endzone.

Talent always wins in the end.
