Desert Island Album Draft - 15th Anniversary Edition - 50 Rounds in the books, sign up now for KP's listening program (1 Viewer)

Speaking of my daughter, I was rocking the playlist shuffle on our way to daycare the other day.  Had a good stretch of songs come up:

Time to Pretend = "this is my favorite song ever!  I like the weird noises"

Green Light = "I love this song too!"  (it's on her playlist, so she sings the chorus)

Something else comes up that I can't quite remember, but we liked it and talked about the singing.

Then... some Rush came on and I asked her what she thought.  "I don't like her singing"  :lmao:
Good taste

Round 39 Gettin' Ready - The Temptations (1966)

A little soul for the Island,

Ain't Too Proud To Beg

Get Ready
I looked at that in the single digit rounds.  I play motown weekly, but the draft stayed away and so did I.  Great pick.  I love Eddie on lead.  Get Ready, The Way You Do, and of course Just My Imagination.  David was amazing though.  I Wish it Would Rain is one of my all timers.  R.I.P. guys.

Another band I had a hard time chosing the album to bring as they are all good and my favs are scattered. Went with this one as it's the one that got them noticed and probably best overall. The band is a big fan of Marvel comics and the Megasonic Teenage Warhead character in the Deadpool movie got her name from a track on this album. There is also a track called Ego,the Living Planet who was played by Kurt Russell in Gotg2.

Monster Magnet- Dopes to Infinity

Look to Your Orb for the Warning

King of Mars

PICK 39.21

TED NUGENT - TED NUGENT DOUBLE LIVE GONZO!

Ted was a rock monster in my high school and college years.  Straight ahead guitar rock.  Think of cruisin' in a '67 Chevelle, (maybe a little bondo on the left quarter panel), got some Schoeling Little Kings ...or Robin Hood Cream Ale if we had less money) - and the 8-track has this blasting.  We now know that he's is a right-wing nut case.  He is one of the best "live" shows that I have seen.

Songs

- Storm Troopin'

- Stranglehold
Always thought Ted was another artist who got alot of play here in Detroit but not much nationally. Never owned any of his albums but do love Stranglehold and went to a few of his Whiplash Bashes on New Year's Eve.

Question about the spotify playlist - it occurred to me on today's run that I'm not a premium member. I use amazon for customized playlists and spotify is more of a filter to get to our amazon catalog. Since I only use the free version of spotify might that be why I can't add songs to the shared FBG playlist? Sorry - this is just unreasonably bothering me.

Regardless, will a kind soul please add:

Audioslave (Self Titled album) - Show Me How To Live, I Am The Highway

Shakey Graves (Live Audiotree) - Roll the Bones, Word of Mouth

This was song that got our then 5 and now 7 year old into music.
My wife's name is Amy, so we put this on her playlist and she loves it.

5 year old also has "her metal song" on there too- her name is Freya.

I have no idea but I am a premium member. Any free members here adding songs?

PICK 40.20

DAVID BOWIE - LIVE IN SANTA MONICA 1972

$5.50 for a ticket ...

He's got a ton of live albums and none have everything I want to hear - his always has split his stuff up with strange selection he always keeps in.  Not complaining - it just made it tough to pick the one I wanted.  Gotta have some Bowie on my island.

Songs

- Hang On To Yourself (jammin')

- The Width Of A Circle (Mick Ronson just kills here)

39.23 - Imperial Bedroom - Elvis Costello and the Attractions (1982)

Drafted at 3.12 by @Abrantes (This Year's Model), 8.01 by @cosjobs (My Aim is True w/out the Attractions) and 8.23 by @mphtrilogy (Armed Forces)

I should have named Costello as one of my two desert island artists last night.  His catalog is as deep and varied as anyone's and even Costello's failed experiments are always fascinating.

Imperial Bedroom is top-tier Costello for me.  It's certainly top five and might be as high as three if you get me on the right day.  The album boasts some of Declan's cleverest wordplay and standout accompaniment from the Attractions, especially Steve Nieve who did the arranging as well.  Producer Geoff Emerick had worked with George Martin on the Beatles' recordings and gives Imperial Bedroom a similar Beatlesesque flair.

At the start of his career, Costello was often lumped in with the Punks because of time and place but he never really fit the mold.  Imperial Bedroom showed the world the breadth of his talent.

Germ Free Adolescents- X Ray Spex (1978)

without the punk explosion this album never happens, this incredible voice (Poly Styrene) never gets heard.

fronted by Styrene (nee Marianne Joan-Elliot Said), a pepperpot Scot/Somali teen in braces, they ripped up the clubs featuring the sax - an instrument eschewed by the new guns on the scene - but it proved to be their unique niche, thanks to the talents of Lora Logic.

this is their debut, and i'm gonna take the re-release version to allow me many more listens to one of the greatest salvos fired in the punk era.

this is a mad and dizzy dash through all things troubling to a teen "mutt" (her words) in latter 70s London (identity and consumerism most notably) ... Logic's sax is a streak of unrelenting power throughout, and this whole album is as infectious as it is provacative. one of the top 10 most important platters to come outta the whole shebang.

all songs written by Poly - R.I.P.

Oh Bondage! Up Yours! the salvo i referred to, just might be the greatest single the era churned out ... hell yes 👍

The Day The World Turned Day-Glo can feel the paint being applied atm

PS - PLZ ADD TO SPOTTY, TIA 😎

Of course this was the dude I was talking about earlier in the Snoop conversation.  Surprised he wasn't taken at all.
I found during this process that he didn't age well with me. If I'm in the right mood (angry) then he's great, but otherwise imma stick to the handful or so I'm comfortable with.

@Steve Tasker and I were at the Bonnaroo show a couple years back with the fake gunshots that caused some apparent panic and minor controversy. I'm pretty sure neither of us thought anything of it. I was aware of them but recognized them as part of the song/show.

Time to pull the trigger on one I’ve been holding off on since I wasn’t sure how to not blow up the playlist. I solved this conundrum by remembering the bonus tracks released in 2003, which contains my favorite part of the 18 minute monstrosity that I really wanted to include (a portion of the title song released as a single). You still have to deal with one long one. Yo Mama selects:

40 - Yes - Close to the Edge (1972)

1 - Close to the Edge 🥰

2 - And You and I

3 - Siberian Khatru

Bonus - America

Bonus - Total Mass Retain

These two albums (Eminem Show and Doggystyle) were two albums I was considering for rap. I probably won't end up bringing any.
I held off on rap for a long time. I wanted drafters to weed out some of my choices. I still have a few I am considering drafting but Eazy-E, Snoop, Mase, and Eminem will suffice until the end.

^ That's where we are and with that in mind, I think we'll continue on for today and tomorrow switch to one pick in the AM, one in the PM. Unless anyone has a strong opinion otherwise
It's pretty much how I do this anyway.

Also, I am in the middle of an 8 live album tournament to make one pick in a needed category. Notable: The pre-tourney favorite is unavailable on Spotify. A situation that created the tournament anyway. This is exhausting work. I'm taking a nap before the semi-finals.

You can skip me.

I'm on the beach now.  Will be driving home and than drinking. So the moral of the story is skip me if I'm not in the thread.  I'm still trying to decide if I want to switch up my draft strategy anyway.

Hells, yeah.   The Long Island Ice tea mix I tried was absolute dog ####.   So I got some gin that the dreamy pic of Ryan Reynolds on it said was the best gin on the planet.  lol

We were pretty far in the back.  I definitely didn't think anything of it.  I have a tendency to space out a bit when I'm feelin the vibes though.  Hence getting hit with drumsticks at a Royal Blood show or getting hit in the head with a plastic container of cheese puffs at a <undrafted artist> show.

Looks like I owe 10 picks, rounds 31-40.  Sorry about this, but sober weeks have this effect.  At last, shelter-in-place Happy Hour has arrived.  Time to bust the Google doc and Ctrl-F.
