Desert Island Album Draft - 15th Anniversary Edition - 50 Rounds in the books, sign up now for KP's listening program (3 Viewers)

DICE ROLL!#!#!
:scared:

ETA:  I am down for what the masses want, but I think a 3-3 or 4.2 might make it more positive.    I guess a dice roll of the island also gets different perspectives of stuff like 1st round picks that we might assume all have listened to?

Btw, I started buying CD's again.  Scored a nice lot today with three Ozzy's, including Speak of the Devil.  CD's are way easier to store than Vinyl with less allergies for me.

Freeway Jam - Jeff Beck -  This is pretty good for some instrumental noodling. It approached the edge of guitar wankery but knew not to cross the line 12/10

Walk on Hot Coals - Rory Gallagher - This song is very good, the guitar work is very nice, it does not need to be 11 minutes long... 10/10

Down Rodeo - Rage Against the Machine  - Gotta love the fire and guitars and vocals and production and everything here. 13/10

:lmao:  So, I really like this album too, but MAC is catching a break here with you being the one jumping into it. I won't give away what it is but I think you'll appreciate it just fine KP (and a few others may not). Maybe bring some gin to the listening session.
I thought this immediately. I'm one of the ones who really liked the fun. album, but I thought something along these lines.

Round 50 The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan - Bob Dylan (1963)

I don't have any Dylan with me so far and I figured I had one pick to rectify that. To show what a remarkable career Bob has had, I took his 1963 classic but considered his work from 1997. I love both almost as much but on the desert island a little coffee house style may go over better.

Most vinyl is just remastered from digital sources anyway. In order for there to be an aural benefit, you have to search out those vinyl platters that are sourced from the original analog masters. Most of them aren't. Otherwise, you're just buying it for the bulk and inconvenience.

That's sort of why I do vinyl clubs and always check discogs to see if the version I'm buying is special in that way. It usually will tell you because it's a definite expense that makes the record more expensive at times. Jimi and Bowie are the two that come to mind that don't cost a lot yet have this option.

I have a California Audio HDCD player that makes my cd's sound better than anything else.  That's my motivation.

That's cool that you have that. I've wanted to help you out when you ask in the audiophile thread or here, but my knowledge of '70s equipment is seriously lacking and I only know raw basics.

Can't You Hear Me Knockin - Rolling Stones - Maybe only my 10th or 12th favourite Rolling Stones song, so still incredible 14/10

Plaster Casts of Everything - Liars - These guys took some time for me to get into but I definitely got into them. I love that they can do something like this 13/10, then also create something as pretty as The Other Side of Mt Heart Attack

If The Walkman was who I would have drafted, that's quite possible. Marco got them, I think. I probably would have drafted Everyone Who Pretended To Like Me Is Gone, though. I love the ominous strains of "They're Winning."

They're winning again/I know it's not fair...but what is?

If i had joined, American Beauty would have been a top four pick. I think I would have picked them before simey.
Yeah.  Easily my 2nd favorite and I almost took it instead.

And it's one of my favorite album covers of all time.

I think I've played out Bows + Arrows, with that being the only reason why. Can't go wrong with either, it's just at this point, it wins because of "Rue The Day" and "They're Winning."

That's actually a 90's piece.  I have a radio from like 1920 though.  Plenty of 70's stuff. I caught the bug.

I didn't realize that these HDCD players were even a thing.  I can't get anything I have streaming to sound that good.  So now I am trying to back fill my cd collection.

Alright, my quick review of my extra credit Sturgill Simpson album:

Long story short, I hesitantly dug this album.

Cover:  Pretty bad ###, actually.   On first glance it looks a bit like a prog metal album cover.

Album:   For a non-country fan this was an interesting ride.  I have noticed that for whatever reason, I am able to override the music a little more if it gets to the twangy side if it's a female voice vs. male voice.  Not sure why that is, it just is.   As far as the album, I review the opener before and a lot of the songs were a similar reaction for me.   Just when his voice was pushing me away a bit, the music would pull me back in.   The flow of the album was great, and the backing instrumentation was interesting enough to pull me back into the song if his vocals was pushing me out.   For me a highlight was the song after the Nirvana cover - Brace for Impact (Live a Little).   That opening bass and groove got me right away.   Really dug it, and this would be my add to the play list along with Call to Arms.  Oh Sarah was the other great example of the battle for me - IMO some fantastic lyrics and heartbreaking music, but his vocals were my least favorite of the songs.    Overall, this would be a solid 6-7/10 for me.  I 100% can see the draw and talent of Sturgill, but still a little bit of a battle for a typically non-country guy.

Oh yeah, I know it's '90s. Straight 90s. Created to address the problems with compressed music for the audiophile, because CDs were here to stay, man! They forgot how damn much the record companies and system manufacturers have a stake in making sure that formats become obsolete for one reason or another.

Ok, so I haven't heard them then.
That's what I thought, but you've been known to spin pop hits late night, so I thought, maybe...

Not even on trips in the car, huh? I remember you were stay-at-home for a while, but nothing in the limitations of digital mobile ever made you click the radio, eh?

Yeah, I was stay at home for a bit,  but mostly in the car it was talk radio or podcasts :bag: or Cds and Spotify through the tape deck and phone :bag: :bag:    Very rarely listen to actual radio.

50.07 Grateful Dead - Sunshine Daydream 1972

Veneta Oregon 8/27/72 - Temperature 103

(5/19/77 fox songs work better for playlist)

Peggy-O

Loser

This is either number one or number two for most people (myself included) on the Grateful Dead greatest shows list.  5/19/77 Fox Atlanta is my other one at the top. Cornell isn't top twenty for me fwiw. Look out for the naked dude on the pole if you watch the DVD.

Dark Star>El Paso is my favorite part, but it's almost perfect from start to finish.

"Unlike ****'s Picks, Road Trips, Dave's Picks, and certain other of the band's archival series of live album releases, which are simply two-track stereo recordings made from the soundboard during the concert, the show on the album was recorded on a 16-track multitrack recorder and was mixed down to stereo just prior to the album's 2013 release.

The album debuted at #19 on the Billboard 200 on October 5, 2013. It was the Grateful Dead's second top 20 album, after In the Dark, which reached #6 in 1987."

I look up every song now to see if @PIK95 drafted it. I got one this time and my review is going to be absolutely meaningless because of the song it is  :lmao:

Watermelon Man - Herbie Hancock - This is a cool song that I'm not sure when I would be in the mood/position to listen to. It's not background music or drinking music or singalong music. But it's good and pretty weird 11/10

Gimme Some Truth - John Lennon - Liking the guitar here, I much prefer Beatles Lennon to non Beatles lennon (duh, I also prefer ginger ale with whiskey in it to ginger ale without whiskey in it). I have no context about what he's singing about here but he's passionate 12/10

Hey You (live) - Pink Floyd - So, yeah, this song is pretty good huh? Here's what I'll say, it sounds incredible in this live version and it is one of my top 3/4 Pink Floyd songs ever, and the best song on The Wall but I'm not going to provide a ton of insight here aside from incredible song is incredible 15/10

GOOD FRIEND - PLANTS AND ANIMALS  - Man I love this song. I have a t-shirt from this era of the band and Parc Avenue is so good. Their albums lately and a couple times seeing them since have caused me to lose momentum on them but this album is really really good 14/10

Latest beer:

Noodlin' - 5 Paddles - appropriate for a music draft. They use the same base beer and noodle around with different hops. This is the first - Citra/El Dorado. Not loving it 11/10

Oh, I don't want to discourage anyone else's comments.  I really love reading them and think the dislikes are presented in a funny way!  No one has ever posted anything in those reviews that offended me.
I haven't rolled the Eagles yet

By the way, quoting late to say you have nothing to bag your head about. I use the phone and Spotify from an auxiliary port when I drive. And podcasts are cool, if only I had the wherewithal to listen to talking anymore or had a real interest in it. I'm still stuck on the greatness of This American Life, that's about where my adventuring ends. (And I haven't listened to it in so long.) Makes me embarrassed.  :bag:

I'm surprised you don't do fantasy podcasts for the amount I perceive you being into it. I listened to fantasy baseball podcasts fairly regularly when that existed.
