Sick of music drafts where you get your pick sniped? Now you can get your revenge.

We are to be stranded on our Desert Islands with only enough resources to power 20-26 songs and the dang music player only accepts one artist per one letter of the alphabet. Good thing we have a speed boat with enough fuel to make 2 trips to steal a song from another island.

Draft songs
SIMPLE VERSION
Pick an artist and a song of theirs you would like
Use as many letters of the alphabet for your artist choice as possible, 20, 22, 24 or 26
One letter for an artist per drafter.
Once an artist is drafted, they are off the board
You can steal someone elses choice. 2 steals per drafter
You can only have 2 stolen from you.
First 4 rounds are in draft order. Subsequent rounds, one per day at anytime.
THE FULL VERSION
We draft 20, 22, 24 or 26 songs (to be determined by you). The artist can only be chosen once.
Each letter of the alphabet can only be used once per drafter.
The Strokes will be an S
A Certain Circle, will be a C
An Omelette will be an O
Neil Young will be a Y
Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young will be a C
Artists starting with a foreign letters eg unlauts, esszets etc will be associated to their nearest english language equivalent and i will make the call. Symbols like Prince’s thing will be a P, the Artist formerly known as Prince will be a P
Generally whatever name a song was released under, will get that letter, regardless of what the artists name was before or after this song. Not a contradiction.
I will be the final arbiter of any slotting.
If all the artists you can think of starting with eg the letter X are gone, you can either steal someones X pick or abandon the letter and drop to 24 picks.
20, 22 or 24 picks allows for logjams at certain letters like Q, X, Y and Z. You can punt the letter P if you want, your choice.
Heres the kicker. Everyone is allowed a maximum of two steals only. If someone steals a song you stole, too bad. Theoretically one song could be stolen by all drafters twice for the whole draft.
Any drafter can only be stolen from twice****Unless.....
BTW Stealing is not compulsory, but if someone steals from you, you need to replace your pick and not get cranky lol
An Example
If someone takes Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody with the first pick, Queen is off the board. Queen and David Bowie are still eligible, so is Freddie Mercury, Brian May solo stuff etc. If the second drafter decides to use their pick to steal Queen off the first drafter, so be it. They can change the song as well after stealing. The artist is now theirs to do with what they like.
If you have a song stolen from you, you can make a replacement pick immediately with the same or a different letter. Or wait until your next pick to make 2 selections.
****Unless
Heres the next kicker. If someone uses all 26 letters, they will be given a free steal, but only of the artist, not the song already chosen. The original drafter, keeps their artist and song. They must have 26 unique artists to date and will get a 27th song from an artist already chosen
Once someone drops out at 20, 22 or 24 selections, their picks are locked and loaded and cannot be stolen from. If you want to do a late steal and someone steps off, tough. You missed your chance. If anyone drops out or steps off before their 20th pick, all their pocks are open.
There will be strategy in stealing determined by you. Use your 2 steals early and you may get frustrated when later picks are more tempting than the ones you stole that may have subsequently been stolen by someone else. Leave your steals too late and someone could lock and load their picks with a 20th round exit.
The first 4 rounds will have no clock and will be chosen in order. People are welcome to PM their picks to another drafter if they dont want to hold things up. From round 5 onwards, one pick a day at any time. First in, first served. If you fall behind you cannot steal with an old round pick, but can steal with the current round.
Do I have every scenario covered? Probably not. Unanticipated events, can and will probably occur. As usual, we will adapt on the run.
