My league we always have the same divisions. 6 of us are friends from high school and the other 6 are friends from college. Its really how every you want to do it.
-I guess you could just say, pick #1 in div 1, pick #2 in div 2, and so on...
But in more recent years, I vastly favor using existing rivalries if at all possible. For example, in my dynasty league, 5 of us have college connections, another 4 have a different set of college connections, and the remaining 3 are a former coworker and a couple of friends from the net. So I set up three divisions of 4 with the two different groups in their own division, and myself and the remaining 3 in the other. I've gotten great feedback from them all on doing it this way. Another benefit is since those guys tend to talk with each other the most, it is extra incentive to go talk to others about trades since they are in division rivals.
I'm not a fan of divisions. They're just an antiquated system that ensures that every year some of the best teams are not going to be making the playoffs.

was going to set up where the 4 division winners make the playoffs and the next 2 teams with best record make it. how do you do the schedule with one division of 12? you will play 2 teams twice and the others once, 13 games
14 team league. The winner of each division the year before gets to draft who they want in their division this year.Last Year divisional winner w/ best record picks first and it is a snake style draft. This is great because it gets the ##### talking pumped to the next level.enjoy
My 16-teamer holds a draft for divisions with four different owners picking each year. Generally keeps the rivalries together while mixing things up nicely, too. Makes for mucho trash talking on the message board while the draft is in process. Good way to get things started.
