Bly has skills even though he's getting a bit long in the tooth, but we've seen what the cover 2 defense can do for corners (Barber, Tillman) that have ability. Could Blye be a good sleeper pick this year or will his numbers remain the same in the new scheme?
Admittedly, I've been all over the place on Bly this offseason.PROS
Cover-2 scheme
Above average ball skills and coverage stats
CONS
Not a good or particularly willing tackler
Poor size and not very durable in recent seasons
I favor the Cover-2 scheme strongly in considering Bly's value, but the number one factor in finding a
consistently valuable fantasy corner for me is how willing and effective a player is supporting the run. Bly never has been, which means that even though he may get a bump in opportunities in the new scheme, he may not take advantage to a big enough extent.
Plenty of Cover-2 corners have been duds, too, remember. Jason David, Nick Harper, Nathan Vasher, Brian Kelly -- they've all been more dependent on volatile coverage stats for their value. Could Bly, Bryant, or Smoot be this season's CB du jour? Sure. But I wouldn't invest highly in them until they prove themselves capable of consistent production.
My advice? Get Marlin Jackson. Wait for Dungy to realize his corners are league average and promote Jackson. Win more games in your league.
