***Detroit Tigers thread: 1st pick yet again, this is not fun*** (1 Viewer)

Nothing to add from a baseball standpoint, but there are an inordinate amount of really attractive women around and behind home plate. They were panning the crowd and my wife said "is that woman with the huge bewbs wearing a double bagger t-shirt?"

Terrible way to start this important series. I am thinking we need to get JV back soon.
Well they aren't going anywhere without JV, but tonight's loss is just another step in the marathon. 12-4 vs the AL Central now.
They're not going anywhere w/o the guy who's pitched to a 4 ERA/1.30+ whip over last 2 seasons?Makes sense.
That is just ignorant.
Why? He's been terrible the last 2 years.

Price was solid. Cain made it fun at the end. I expect to see the Tiger bats break out against Vargas tomorrow.

Anibal's ERA vs the Royals in 8 career starts is now under 1. Best of any starter with at least seven starts vs the Royals franchise ever.

I'll take a split in KC every time.

Some pretty good fielding today, although Iglesias left with a tight groin in the 6th. Romine very sharp at SS and is a perfect fielding replacement late in the game these days, which sure beats having him as a starter with that terrible bat.

I would have been OK with anything except getting swept. So nice to have a closer who throws strikes. Soria threw three balls and they were all on 0-2 counts. Miggy is playing like his MVP season. Not too often do you see a three run single.

Was it last year or the year before that VMart caught fire after a really slow start? Waiting for him to do that again ...nice they can keep winning in the meantime.

eta - Some random stats:

Miggy has a 17/18 BB/K ratio ...VMart (despite his struggles) is at 12/9.

Miggy is closing in on 2,300 hits; 400 HRs; 1,400 RBIs.

KC leads the league with a .294 batting avg (and leads in hits). Detroit is second with .278 (and second in hits). I doubt KC is able to sustain that. Also, KC is just 26th in BBs.

Detroit's 3rd in the league in fielding percentage, reinforcing a number of comments here about the 'new look' Tigers.

That is because there was an error on the play. It was a single with an error allowing Avila to get to second and the 3rd run to score.

Oh, I missed that Avilia had a RBI earlier, I thought they gave him three RBI's for the single.

2013, after missing 2012 with the first knee injury.
V-Mart came back 100% healthy and struggled early 2013 because he had been away from the game so long. This year not sure he is near 100% healthy. Just looks like he is in pain batting and running.

Why did Iggy come out of the game early?

Speaking of that play where one hit created 3 runs, Céspedes can really tear around the basepaths. J.D. in front of him slid for the 2nd run and then had to get out of his way for Céspedes slide.

I heard on 97.1 that he tweaked his groin, but they didn't go into when it occurred. Good timing having a day off.

With the off day today, any idea what Ausmus will do with the rotation? I have tickets for Friday night and am trying to figure out who we'll see on the mound.

ETA, MLB.COM is now showing Price as the probable for Friday night. They show Lobstien going Thursday night and hope this sticks and he is not skipped due to the off day so we get to see Price.

 thanks, very exciting we'll get to see Price.

I cant' remember anytime Dan Dickerson has complained so much about a home plate umpire. Reynolds calling strikes 8 inches off the plate tonight I guess. Yeah, that's what Sale needs...more help.

Joyner told JD to relax and to look at a few more pitches. Four walks all year coming into tonight, three walks tonight.

Power guys like JD should be able to draw some walks when he's slumping, when he's not...swing early and often.

Joba just allowed a three run homer to a guy that might never hit a homer again. Terrible.

Rondon in Detroit now and should be back in a couple of weeks, but they'll need more than him.

Jesus Christ McCann, that's a high school move getting picked off after rounding the bag too far on a base hit. Ugh.

Terrible loss to a terrible team you should have beat by 8 tonight. :X

As much as Joba is a good guy and probably not the worst arm, I hate that Ausmus uses him as the setup man. Joba needs a less critical role in the pen and a much shorter chain. If this loss causes Ausmus to have less confidence in Joba, it would have been well worth it. Unfortunately, Ausmus's mindset is not easily changed. Nathan woukd still be closing games if healthy.

Can AA ever get ahead in the ####### count? Seems like every batter he goes 2-0. The #### he was throwing last night was not even close. How long did that game last? Saw Miggy yawning in the field.

Maybe these would help.

Its going to be interesting to see how Ausmus manages a bullpen with one reliable pitcher.
Gorzelanny looks good too, maybe Nesbitt is the arm we've been needing but too early to tell. I think Rondon is the key but I'm getting to the point where I'm thinking he's Zumaya part deux. Chamberlain and AlAl are trash though.

Once Joba & Al are gone we will know the bullpen is better.
