***Detroit Tigers thread: 1st pick yet again, this is not fun*** (1 Viewer)

Avila is not that bad at the plate. He forces pitchers to throw 7, 8, 9 pitches and he draws lots of walks. He can look terrible swinging the bat but he still is a tough out and helps knock out the starter early. It would be nice to have a .280 hitter with 25 home runs,

Probably get some nice pieces for Miggy. Blow it up and rebuild.
I wouldn't, if you told me at the beginning of the year that the Tigers would get nothing from V-Mart, Verlander, and major slumps/erratic play from J.D., Sanchez, Davis, and Nick I would have said we were under .500. So I will take this and hope that V-Mart and Verlander come back and put us into the playoffs. Plus as good as Miggy is I don't think anyone wants anything to do with that contract.

So far, Miggy has lived up to his contract. Miggy does not rely on speed, so there is a reasonable chance he can continue to produce at a high level into his late 30's.

He could, but I would bet against it. Injuries seem to catch up to you when you get older. He already has had trouble finishing the last 2 years because of injuries.

Oh come on. Tigers have to be considered one of the top 5 teams to win it all.
I screw around a lot on here but I honestly believe this team will not make the playoffs. They don't have the pitching.
Price is one of the best. Simon has pitched very well. Greene has shown good stuff at times. Sanchez has had several horrific outings, but still is capable of being quite good. Verrlander should be back in two weeks, and is still capable of being good. And DD has a month to trade for one. I still have hope. The biggest issue is KC is a very good team and the Tigers may have to settle for a play in game.

No team that was in third place on Memorial Day has ever won their division*.

*Have not researched the validity.

If Verlander can return to 2011 form and go 12-2 or so the rest of the way with a WHIP around 1 and over a K an inning this team will be fine.

That being said what starters are available??

We don't need an Ace. Really just a solid arm with an ERA in the low 3's and winning 5 games more than he loses.

Sorry, been fishing and up northing.

Avila is a favorite of the fielding bible, near the top in all the things a catcher does that people don't appreciate (block balls, call the game, frame pitches, etc). He is a top ten overall catcher with top five upside, McCann is a few years from that. When Alex is healthy, he's the better half of a true platoon.

I like Price, like Scherzer I think his skills play over time. He grows old well imo, I'd like to see him get a contract from Detroit.

Last week was disappointing, they just made mistakes at the worst possible times and they are stranding too many runners. The leyland-like lineup Brad threw out there yesterday was also pretty terrible.

2013 JV is fine by me.Also they don't need to trade for a starter, Buck Farmer is legit and ready IMO.

Hit and run in a game you are getting no one on base, and Hernan swings through it and runner thrown out at second. He's so bad, this is just sad. Him getting the hit and run is pretty questionable also.

Price at 108 pitches, has retired the last 8. Leave him in Brad.

I  Soria, so good and he bails out a bad Brad.

Also I must reiterate that Andrew Romine is a valuable piece to this team. He does a lot of things well, terrific utility guy to have in house.

Tigers have not been a good offensive team the last month, but will always take a win. The offense should come around.

Headed to southern cal. Will be at the Saturday's game and perhaps the Friday game.

The comment was tongue in cheek but the Tigers are paying for the 2011 version for the next 5 years. Hopefully he can be at least a #2 guy.

Should be interesting to see how today's starting pitcher plays out http://www.freep.com/story/sports/mlb/tigers/2015/05/27/detroit-tigers-alfredo-simon-bereavement-kyle-ryan/27998589/Simon is out due to being placed on the bereavement list. They are going to try and get Kyle Ryan out to the West Coast in time to start (he is 0-5 in Toledo). I think I'd rather have him delayed by weather and see what the pen can do instead.
Looks like they couldn't get Ryan out there in time and Alex Wilson gets the start: http://sports.detroitnews.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=detnews&page=mlb/scores/live/lineup.aspx?gameid=44185

I like what Ausmus did with Gose & Rajai (like I mentioned in a prior post) batting one in the lead off spot and one 9th to have them back to back.

Will he be back to make a start this weekend? Wouldn't think so as he is headed to the DR.
. I hope Saturday Night when I am there. It is too early for Price and I really don't want to see a reliever starting.

Fun fact: Games this year when Price was starting: 8 games over .500, games when he didn't start: 1 game under .500.

Kyle Ryan pitched well last year for the Tigers in very limited action. If Wilson is pitching tonight, Ryan may not get a start. I think it will be Greene starting on Saturday, who went from awesome to terrible lately. He looked pretty good last game until the wheels completely fell off.

So Wilson started and did great through 3. I suppose they didn't want to get too crazy with his pitch count. Let's see if Ryan can give them a few good innings as well.

Top of 4th: Wise for Cespedes to try to steal 3rd? 1st and 2nd with one out and Otero not pitching great.

And they patch together a good win with Wilson, Ryan, and the BP. Nice.

At least I was awake to see their run score.
vmart is the guy that scores those runs, Cespedes is no Vmart.Tigers haven't been able to score runs in Anaheim since Reagan was in office.

Farmer rough first 8 hitters, then retired 11 of 12, then fell apart in the 6th. Oh well.

Prior to the start of the season, it didn't occur to me that scoring runs would be the Tigers problem.

This isn't very fun.

Maybe Hernan will hit a walk off granny to rescue this wretched offense.

Then again, maybe he won't because he ####### blows and should not be starting, or really on the roster at all.
