Perez will come around..he is just a slow starter. There is no way he hits .061 the rest of the way..by the end of the season I truly believe he will be close to a .100 hitter.

If V-Mart can't come back and be 75 or 80 percent of what he was last year they should trade Price. I don't think they have a shot at resigning him.

Currently in the wildcard, a six week face plant is needed to consider trading Price.

I agree, but the whole season their offense has been slumping, as good as Miggy is, Victor is the glue that holds that lineup together.

 
First time in mlb history a starter has allowed 5 homers in a game and did not last 2 innings. Nice job Shane, record breaking performance. :thumbup:

lol at trading Price, they absolutely have a shot at re-signing him. Unlike Sherzer, his agent and the Tigers have been talking all year.

AlAl is terrible, Wilson is the opposite.

Even Jim and Dan are arguing now. Price believes Tigers should be taking more pitches, Dan pointed out averages on first pitch swings (good). Jim was disgusted.

This team is 2nd in average, 4th in OPS, 1st in steals and 9th in runs. Like we've been saying here in this thread, dps and hitting with risp is the issue. Also Kinsler has been scuffling the last two weeks, when he stinks so does the rest of the team. Glad he gotta homer in the 9th.

Yeah, Kinsler has been in a slump and has been killing us batting 2nd. I was thinking putting Iggy there may help and move Kinsler down to 6th.

I know hindsight is 20-20 but extending Verlander 2 seasons before his deal was up has come back to haunt the Tigers. I am sure the Tigers wish they had let it play out one more season...then that money probably would have been to sign Max a rising star and let Verlander test the market.

Right now the Tigers have close to 50 million on the DL with Verlander, V-Mart and Nathan. That should be the core of the team but Verlander will never be what he was, Nathan is done and Victor may not be right until next season.

We don't even know if Scherzer would have signed an extension after the 2012 season, something that I was strongly advocating for (don't remember anyone agreeing with me either).

That Price article said nothing. Cubs, Dodgers and Yankees interested in Price? No way, didn't see that coming. :mellow:

A gorzelanny, Wilson, Chamberlain, Rondon, Soria pen seems pretty good actually. If vmart and JV come back healthy and effective that's like making two big trades mid season.
 
To clear it up, I don't think they will trade Price. I am saying if they continue to play like this and the 4th of July is here and they are in 3rd place or worse I would look to trade him. There is no rule that says you can't resign him in the off season. He did say in the article that a deal may not get done during the season unless it close to Kershaw money. There was also a rumor in the story that he wants to play in the national league.

It is not like they are 10 plus games out. They are in a slump, way too much over reaction to it. Although Green has to start pitching better or we will need to do something.

 
This is about the 6th or 7th time Ausmus has let the starter give up 7 plus runs before pulling the plug. The bullpen has been pitching too well not to use it. Come on, Green had already given up 4 home runs. Albert was licking his chops going up against Green with two men on. It was very predictable what was going to happen. Almost like throwing Nathan out there in the playoffs last year against Baltimore.

That is what I am saying if this slump turns into something more, deal him. The deadline is what about 6 weeks away? If they keep playing like this they could be 10 out in 6 weeks.

 
Did any catch the Michigan baseball game yesterday? Tied ball game bottom of 8th the other team has a man on third, one out. Guy hits a deep ball which was a good 6 feet foul, the Michigan outfielder makes a diving catch which allowed the go ahead and eventual winning run to score. Nice catch, but stupid way to lose.

 
Green is very hit or miss. I've watched him twice this year and he was really good in those games. Has Simon been the most consistent starter this year? Price has had two stinkers also.

Low to mid 90's. Lost control in the second but it shouldn't have been as bad as it was. SS botched a routine pop up that resulted in a two run double. Never really got it back after that.
 
When they showed the bullpen my wife who is a very casual baseball fan says "Oh no not that guy with the beard"

Ever notice that Ausmus seems to struggle in tight games and always seems to be looking around for for help on what to do? It may not be the case but he does not look very decisive.

 
Somehow Joba has a 1.26 ERA this season. Go figure. 28-24 is not a good place considering it puts them in the middle of the division. I still don't know how Minnesota keeps winning and am shocked Gopher State hasn't found his way to this thread yet.

I am not thrilled at 28-24 but honestly what would we expect if we were told before the season started and after losing Max to free agency that JV would not pitch a single game before June, and V-Mart would be batting .216 and have 1 HR, and 15 RBI by June 1 and Sanchez would be pitching the way he is. It's tough to lose three of the staff's top starters, and the team's second best hitter and win at a decent clip - particularly with how strong the AL Central is this year (ironically they would be in first in the AL East so, for once, the AL Central appears to be the toughest AL division). I am just glad Soria has pitched the way he has since the Tigers could not afford to be blowing games like they did last year. This team has holes but hopefully they can persevere until Verlander and V-Mart get back, and hopefully Sanchez returns to form and Rondon helps out in the 8th. That is admittedly a lot of ifs but this team has a lot of holes at this point....

Joba's WHIP of 1.47 is more telling. He comes in with men on base and an out or two. Joba then proceeds to allow all the runners on base to score then gets out of the inning.

 
So Detroit is still 2nd in the AL in batting average at .272 (KC has come back down to earth from .294 to a current .278). Detroit is first in hits; second in walks. They're first in OBP; second in slugging; and first in OPS. However, they are only 9th in runs scored ...tied in part, I presume, to being 12th in HRs. Also, they're 5th highest in K's. They're putting guys on base, but not getting them home. I read that they've scored 2 or fewer runs in almost half their games.

Pitching is rather middle of the pack. 8th in ERA and runs allowed of the 15 AL teams. Their WHIP is 7th. They're 6th in saves. The team is 12th lowest in walks allowed, but 13th lowest in K's.

Fielding is strong: Tied for 1st in the AL with a .989 percentage.

Base running: 1st with 45 SBs, but also 1st being caught 21 times.

Interesting to see they've scored 214 runs while giving up 215.

TL:DR - Tigers are hitting very well but not getting the runners home. Pitching is middle-of-the-pack. Fielding is great; base running is aggressive.

A healthy V-Mart and things are much different in the runs scored department. Still think Victor rushed way too fast to get back for opening day when May 1 should have been his target return date. Miss the whole spring training and let the knee heal and get strong and spend April getting his swing grooved.

 
Breaking down the pitching stats a bit more, the Tiger's starters are 11th in the AL while their relievers are 3rd. KC starters are actually just behind Detroit's, but their relievers have by far the best stats in the AL. Detroit's bullpen is oddly one of the strengths of the team and the starters have been a weakness. One of the reasons for this is Ausmus has been so reluctant to pull starters when they are getting blown up.

Someone at the News a few weeks ago did an advanced stat column stating that these type of stats are atypical. Basically over the long run teams hit & score runs at the same rate. Hopefully this becomes true because they sure could use some more runs.

 
Prices are dropping on Stubhub. Just bought 4 infield box seats Sec 122 for some customers of mine for 100.00 total.

 
That's 11 of 16 if you're keeping score at home, that includes a 3-6 home record. Four of the losses to the Brewers and A's too.

Everything has been bad too, starting pitching, relief pitchers getting key outs, fielding, baserunning, and managing. The hitting is just downright sad, but those streaks always end. Media is putting all this on the bats but the whole team has been pretty terrible outside Price, Soria, Wilson, and...ah..yeah that's the list.

They miss Avila too, having a lefthanded power bat down the line never hurts. I am not one to scoff at a .342 OBP and the pitching staff has suffered with him gone too IMO (nothing against McCann either, but he's a rookie and it takes time for a rook catcher to get a feel for the pitchers). Avila resumed baseball activities today and might be back in 10 days to three weeks.

Ausmus said after the game that VMART could be back next week, I'm extremely skeptical.

 
The last month has been painful to watch. Can someone ping me when they win a couple in a row? I am thinking that will be in July sometime.
