***Detroit Tigers thread: 1st pick yet again, this is not fun*** (2 Viewers)

It was a run
Yes it was. On title would have been nice though.

This years Tigers look to be a solid 500 team. What is the drop dead date to trade Price to a contender for some prospects...Cespedes? 7- 8 out on July 4th and mired in third place?
By my count 37 games between now and the All Star break, so probably 14-23 to drop the record to 42-48. That'd mean a 48-24 second half to get to 90 wins, which is still possible but not all that likely.

Baseball fans are a fickle bunch. This team was 14-6 on April 27...they're in a nasty slump...they happen...then they bounce back...and despite being in this slump? 14-19 over that time. So, we have to get even worse to get to that 42-48 mark.

Relax.

See I look at it the other way. They started the year on fire at 11 - 2. Since then they are 17 - 23. 40 games of play like this is getting close to panic time. Another 3 weeks of this and we might have to call them an average baseball team.

I agree with Mac 32, go ahead and write that down.

10 games in a baseball season is one NFL game, can't get too caught up in 8-2 or 3-7. AL is wide open, lots of mediocre teams with issues much worse than the Tigers. Tough run here, but 87 wins gets you very close to the playoffs and this team has some runs in it.

I agree with Mac too and just talking what ifs here. Tigers are not going to give Price 210 or Cespedes 120. Just asking what is the drop dead date to try and get something in return.

Mr I paid $82mm for the team, it's worth $1 billion now(according to Forbes) and they operate at a profit. He can easily pay Price, they aren't gonna pay Cespedes because he's not worth paying.

That is a fact. Watching him a few times a year I was intrigued by Cespedes. Watching him everyday and he has lost a little luster.

Even if Cespedes was doing better and people wanted the Tigers to keep him, they really couldn't commit to him long-term. His corner outfield spot has to be filled long-term with a middle of the order left-handed bat.

It's OK Tiger fans, the White Sox are on deck and you miss Sale / Rodon.

If that's not the remedy to a 7 game skid, you might as well pack it up and call it a season.

Seems like Verlander, VMart and aVila will be back next week. Not sure we can afford another week of this.
Gotta be patient, rushing Victor back helped create this in the first place and you could argue we rushed JV last year too. Those results speak for themselves.

I agree with this, I want them to win this year, but if we rush those guys back Victor is going to be hitting .200 again and Verlander maybe dead weight for the next 6 years or whatever is left on his contract.

It has been a long time since the Tigers have had an inning like that. Also great news that JV had an outstanding outing for the Mudhens. Rondon is also on course to return real soon.

They should probably give Price every dime Scherzer wanted.
I honestly think that decision tells us exactly where this franchise is going in the next 5-7 years. They let him go, might as well blow it up sans Miggy and JV IMO.

Good to hear about JV.

I'll be at Sunday's game with my daughter, assuming no rain-out. Let's see if we can go back-to-back with the wins.

Larry Parrish said of Bruce Rondon's outting last night that as bad as his line looked, it was probably worse than that.

Rondon got hammered at Toledo...4 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 1 K, 39 pitches, 22 strikes, 17 balls in 1 inning.
Why would they have him throw 39 pitches?
He was supposed to throw 2 innings. Seems dumb to me. He is a 1 inning pitcher.
Just read that he was scheduled to throw 2 innings or 40 pitches, whichever came first. He had a walk, strikeout, single, walk, then a line drive right to the left-fielder, who threw out the runner at the plate. He came out for his 2nd inning and all 5 hitters reached base. Very discouraging.

Goodness does this team make a lot of really bad mental errors.
Meaning JD going hard to second with one out and an easy fly out to right field (leading to a DP)? Yeah, that was really dumb. He looked like he'd rather crawl in a hole than head out to RF for the bottom of the inning.

Simon was really solid today. Maybe one hit after the second inning? ...and striking out the side in the 8th.

Two more crazy plays for Iglesius - (1) high pop fly to short left, and LF, CF, and SS all converge. Of course, Iglesius makes the over-the-head catch with the outfielders just watching. (2) Man on second, one out. Hard grounder to short, and Iglesius without hesitation makes the throw to third for a very close out. Amazing player.

I just ordered a JV bobblehead. Has to be good luck amiright?

Bonderman was always my favorite player, not counting Miggy, I'd say JV is my favorite player right now. Really hoping he returns to form, it's important for this year and for the next few years for this franchise. I'll gladly take 2010esque production.

Sanchez and Greene are both capable of pitching much much better. With JV coming back and Ryan has been a reliable fill-in guy, the performance of the starting pitching should improve. Greene and Sanchez have me worried, we need both of those guys to step up.

Offensively, for a team which gets on base and has speed, it is just baffling why they go so many games scoring just 1 or 2 runs. It has been a frustrating season since the good start. For a team which has made the playoffs four years in a row, this team has still underperformed, and this year seems no different. Team chemistry? Lack of leadership? I don't know, but something has been missing.

The biggest problem is the lineup is too heavy with right-handed hitters. With Victor being non-existent as a lefty, it means from Kinsler down, it is almost all righties. Right handed pitchers have a huge advantage and nowhere is that more apparent than the ridiculous number of double plays...most of which are weak grounders to short or 3rd. Many of those are from trying to pull outside pitches.
