Deuce McAllister and Willis McGahee (1 Viewer)

Does anyone know the comaparison between the knee injury that McAllister had this year and the one McGahee had when with O-State?

Should I expect it will take McAllister a full season+ to recover from his injury or was it not as severe?

McGahee played for Miami (although he did injure his knee playing against Ohio State). I didn't see how McAllister hurt his knee, but I doubt his injury was as bad as McGahee's (which was disgusting to watch). However, any time someone tears a knee ligament you are looking at over a year recovery time. Edgerrin James and Jamal Lewis are other good examples of players who, even after a year of recover, still took another year before they were back up to speed.I expect a below average year for Deuce McAllister and Daunte Culpepper this year, as they will not be able to run and cut at full speed and they will probably be more timid than they were before. Carson Palmer is a different situation because he's not much of a mobile QB anyways. I'd expect his numbers to dip a little bit, especially at the beginning of the season, but he should still remain in the top 10 QBs.

I don't know of any player EVER who has returned to pre-injury form in less than 12-18 months. These players had a major, major injury less than 6 months ago. Set your expectations accordingly.

What kind of injury Steve Smith had in 04 season? he performed pretty well after coming back from an injury.

Broken bone. Quite a bit different than these ligament tears that we're talking about, but you are correct that it was a major injury.

No two knee injuries are alike and should not be compared, and the estimated return time can be affected by many different factors.
