This is deeper for normal devy leagues, but in TE Prem Jaleel Skinner has to be on radars going forward imo. Hasn’t even played yet but a really intriguing freakish prospect that fits the modern NFL. Next year or the year after is probably when he really gets on radars.

I don't really like incoming frosh WRs, but Luther Burden III at Mizzou a name to watch. #1 incoming WR in the country (#3 nationally by 247).

I appreciate the topic, it would be fun to have their expected NFL draft year in the listing as well. Certainly those can be looked up but in the OP, would be great to add them.

That’ll be one of the more interesting battles to watch this college football season. Right now, I’d give a slight edge to Stroud, but I think both are going to make their new teams very happy in the 2023 draft. I feel like Stroud is a little more mobile than he gets credit for, or that he’s shown up to this point. I hope he displays that this year. Young’s biggest question make is his size, but I think it’s a bit overblown and I don’t see it deterring any teams from taking him top 3.

They’re both capable of being mobile, but I wouldn’t describe Young as a “running QB” so much as a “QB who can run”. More Russell Wilson than LJax.

Stroud is big and has some mobility, but hasn’t had to run much in his offense.

What are the red flags on Young besides size? I haven’t heard much negative about him besides 6’ 200 as undersized.

I believe all I said was a possible issue with Young’s size.  I feel some will be turned off by that.

first, even from the perspective of a dynasty player, this is a great topic & i’m glad you started it. Super useful both now, and as the ‘22 and future seasons play out to identify risers & fallers from a future assets standpoint.

i see a lot of folks mocking devy leagues, but I’d love to be able to convince my dynasty league to add that (unsuccessful thus far).

Bur most dynasty leagues have picks 2-3 years out, so this topic is very handy. 👍🏼

TreVeyon Henderson - OSU - 2024
not for nuthin, this dude is a beast, and (health depending) could well be the 1.01 pick in 2024 regardless of format.

Braelon Allen looks quite ridiculous.

17 years old doing that....
Yeah, that is crazy!  Plus, he was a safety in high school, and recruited to play either safety or linebacker, so he is just now learning the RB position.

(By the by, Will Shipley is not draft eligible until 2024)

I'm into our third year of playing Devy and having a lot of fun with it. We have a super deep drafted devy pool already but a few names I'd probably add for consideration I don't see on the current list...

QB

DJ Uiagalelei (Clemson) - Have to think he eventually figures it out and/or he's the prototypical NFL sized passer and still holds devy value (for now)
Phil Jurkovec (BC) - Should rise and be drafted likely day 2 next year
Tyler Van Dyke (Miami) - Quick riser up the board and apparently has potential first round NFL buzz next year

RB

Trey Sanders (Alabama) - Injuries have held him back, but I think this year he might start to show what he can be and then next year could be his show

WR

Jacorey Brooks (Alabama) - Could be the next in the lineage of Bama WRs going to the NFL
Julian Fleming (Ohio State) - One of the top players in his class and should get the chance to shine now with Olave/Wilson gone along side Njigba and Harrison Jr.

TE

Thomas Fidone (Nebraska) - Second straight year he's been hurt, but the talent is there. If he can find the field, he'd be a cheap stash option to make in that final round or two

Seems like a good place to ask for devy advice...

I went a little overboard taking devys in our startup last year and need to cut down as I transition from "productive struggle" to "competing" this year.

League is superflex, best ball, PPR, TEP, start QB, RB, WR, TE, 5 flex, 1 SF for a total of 10 scoring from a roster of 25.  We have 10 taxi spots.

I'm currently rostering 15 devys (and will probably add 1 or 2 more as our rookie draft winds down that I've also listed here in italics)

Out of the players in this group, which 8-10 would you keep?  Which 5-7 would you be looking to trade away / condense 2 for 1 for better devys?

QB - Hendon Hooker (23), Phil Jurkovec (23), Jaxson Dart (24), Jayden Daniels (23)

RB - Bijan Robinson (23), TreVeyon Henderson (24), Will Shipley (24), Donovan Edwards (24), Eric Gray (23)

WR - Mario Williams (24), Quentin Johnson (23), Jermaine Burton (23), Rakim Jarrett (23), Marvin Mims (23), Parker Washington (23)

TE - Michael Mayer (23)

isn’t “eventually” basically this year?

He’d better figure it out in a hurry. And I hope he does  - I’m likely to have 6 of the top 8 Picks in SF, so more than 2 QBs would be really helpful for me to get the other guys I want.

I’m not super excited about these QBs.

Barring injury, Bijan & Henderson are mortal locks for you to keep.

WR - Mario Williams (24), Quentin Johnson (23), Jermaine Burton (23), Rakim Jarrett (23), Marvin Mims (23), Parker Washington (23)

TE - Michael Mayer (23)
Johnston, Jarrett, Mims & Mayer all locks.

so that’s 6. I’d look to deal the rest to consolidate into 2 great players.

Hope you are right on Fleming. I took him out of high school and liked the talent — starting to worry will be a wasted devy pick. Hoping just function of depth chart and he pulls it together this year.

I'm starting to realize in Devy you just really have to chase some of these schools at times. RBs are starting to come out of Penn State pretty recurringly, so betting on Cain and Singleton is probably a smarter bet than hopeful-small-school- 🤞

Right now, whether you love the player proper or not, grabbing WRs from Alabama and Ohio State are sure hitting at a higher clip than other schools. Notre Dame went on a similar run with TEs, thought right this moment there isn't another Michael Mayer waiting behind Mayer.

I have him in my main Devy league too so yeah I'm hoping he does. They have a few talented guys behind him, but he's still only a junior and he has that free COVID year hanging around too if he really wanted/needed it I believe.

Well, its hard to have the top guys at EVERY position but I think these guys are decent for now.
Oh, I agree - you asked for feedback, that was my gut reaction. It wasn't meant as criticism, just a sentiment that I don't necessarily view those QBs are top assets to hold, and wouldn't hesitate to deal them for an upgrade.

What QB's would you be targeting to trade up for if I packaged a QB with something else?
It really depends on what year you're targeting. For 2023, Bryce Young & CJ Stroud are thought to be 1-2 in some order (and will likely be 1-2 in the NFL draft) But Spencer Rattler was at one point thought to be better than both, and he could well sneak into that conversation with a great year. While Young & Stroud will both be very costly, it's at least worth a check to see if the Rattler owner in your league is also a bit soft on him - could be a decent buy low. Same with Anthony Richardson, Tyler Van Dyke, Will Lewis & maybe DJU.  I have Jurkovec & Hooker behind all those guys, and also behind Grayson McCall & Jake Haener.

Trading up for Devy QBs is pretty difficult from what I've found. I'd say if you aren't certain, cut bait and aim for the next Stroud/Young. Seems to be far harder to trade for good QBs given the scarcity of them than it is for other position players.

Of your current roster of QBs, I'd personally value them like this : Jukovec > Dart > Daniels > Hooker. I could see Dart being first though by the end of the year after some time with Kiffin and I'd probably be trying to keep the top two listed.

Keep Mayer as the next TE after him is Bowers and then it's ??? I like all of your RBs but would be most inclined to trade Gray. I prefer Jarrett and Washington of your WRs and would be open to trades involving the others if they can help you move up to get a better QB prospect.

Rookie / devy draft just finished and here's the before and after of my related picks and 4 devy trades:

Used or traded away: 2x1sts, 2x2nds, 2x3rds, Parker Washington, Jase McClellan, Darnell Washington, Ty Thompson, Jeff Sims.

Products of the above: Kenneth Walker, TreVeyon Henderson, Will Shipley, Rachaad White, Hendon Hooker, Jaxson Dart, Donovan Edwards, Emeka Egbuka and an early-mid 2023 2nd.

Not much discussion here so I'll add some devy content...

Just finished third and final rookie / devy draft.  Superflex, best ball, TEP, 36 teams and 3 player copies.  I'm a new team after the entry dispersal draft and going productive struggle for the first year or so.  After going chalk for first 4 picks in dispersal (Kyler, TLaw, Deebo, DK) I veered into productive struggle based on how the draft was going and started taking alot of rookie draft picks: 1.15, 1.16, 1.34, 2.10, 2.15, 2.32, 3.10, 3.11, 4.08, 4.10, 4.20, and 4.33.

In the rookie draft, I focused on 2024 eligible guys over current rookies (first year those 2024 players were available, 2023 were available in devy draft last year and were depleted) to hopefully be able to compete around then and to use this year and maybe next to build up more draft assets (i.e. tank).

Draft above may be a little confusing because we hold one of the player copies until they are drafted into the NFL so at least one of every rookie available in the current year rookie draft.  So that means only 2 devy copies available before their rookie year when the third becomes available.

Rookie draft picks and transactions:

At 1.15, I traded 1.15 and 2.15 for Caleb Williams, 2024 QB (was selected at 1.11) planning on taking at 1.16 whichever of Quinn Ewers or Brock Bowers he didn't take at 1.15, but he selected Parker Washington.

1.16 - Selected Quinn Ewers, 2024 QB

I still really wanted Brock Bowers (league is 2 pt TEP vs 1 pt for all others) so after his first copy went at 1.17, I was trying to trade back in and got in at 1.20 by trading my 1.34, 2.32, and 4.20 for the 1.20...

1.20 - Selected Brock Bowers, 2024 TE

2.10 - Selected Marvin Harrison Jr, 2024 WR

At 3.01, traded 3.11 and 4.33 for 3.01...

3.01 - Selected Donovan Edwards, 2024 RB

3.10 - Selected Raheim Sanders, 2024 RB

4.08 - Selected Jojo Earle, 2024 WR

4.10 - Selected LJ Johnson, 2024 RB

Devys on my roster after the dispersal and rookie draft:

QB -  DJ Uiagalelei (23), Caleb Williams (24), Quinn Ewers (24)

RB - Zach Charbonnet (23), Jalen Berger (23), Donovan Edwards (24), Raheim Sanders, (24), LJ Johnson (24)

WR - Jermaine Burton (23), Zay Flowers (23), Jadon Haselwood (23), EJ Williams (23), Marvin Harrison Jr (24), Jojo Earle (24)

TE - Brock Bowers (24)

Now just need to try and trade away Kyler, Deebo, and DK for assets before they start scoring any points for me.

I'm curious who others are targeting for late round flyer picks. These wouldn't be some of the guys seen in the first post because they'll mostly go in the top few rounds of drafts, but those players more like Jordan Addison was last year where he had a pretty good first year to then being the Biletnikoff winner and rockets up the draft boards.

  • RB = DeWayne McBride - smaller school (UAB) but his tape looks good and his averages are really good. He also gained 61 yards on 13 carries (4.7 ypr) against that crazy Georgia defense last year
  • WR = Troy Franklin - top 3 ranked WR in his class and a modest freshman year looking to break out this year. Something tells me with Nix now in town he'll finally get a chance to break out or disappear on us. He feels like the definition of late round flyer ala Addison
  • WR = Gary Bryant Jr - I feel like with all of the noise around Riley to USC that he was lost in the shuffle between conversations about Drake going to the NFL and the OU guys coming in. I could see him shining in their offense and he came to SC as a top 50 player in his class as well.
  • WR = Isaiah Neyor - Transfers to Texas just in time to be paired with Xavier Worthy and Quinn Ewers. Saw a lot of success last year on his Wyoming squad and is also likely to start over fellow transfer Agiye Hall. Could be sneaky late value if he continues showing what he did last year.

I'm needing another WR and been racking my brain as to which of the above I pick and if I can get away with it, might be both of them. Curious for others' thoughts on any late round gems you'd be targeting and why though for sure.

Finally just wrapped our draft this morning. The challenge is with devy format through vets, the draft is highly dependent upon availability. Here's how I went though if it helps anyone else see future value. I feel like a lot of my league mates were sleeping on future WR value. That spot is my current weakness so I attempted to load up on as many bodies as my bench would realistically hold and traded some devy deadweight that others still valued to move up and secure guys I saw falling.

2022.01.04 Brock Bowers, TE, Georgia
2022.01.13 Alec Pierce, WR, Indianapolis Colts
2022.02.13 Cameron Ward, QB, Washington State
2022.02.16 Parker Washington, WR, Penn State
2022.04.13 JoJo Earle, WR, Alabama
2022.05.14 DeWayne McBride, RB, UAB
2022.06.09 Kyle Philips, WR, Tennessee Titans
2022.06.13 Jalen Pierce, DB, Houston Texans
2022.07.03 Lorenzo Styles Jr, WR, Notre Dame
2022.07.05 Troy Franklin, WR, Oregon
2022.09.09 Chigoziem Okonkwo, TE, Tennessee Titans
2022.10.03 Isaiah Neyor, WR, Texas
2022.10.13 Jaylen Sneed, LB, Notre Dame

Neyor is apparently out for the year with a knee. Also losing Agiye Hall, this probably hurts Ewers most as he’s losing weapons and Arch is about to breathe down his neck and be the golden boy backup on campus.

I love DEVY leagues. It really adds another dimension to leagues. I like those that include the current rookie draft with DEVY instead of those that separate out them into two drafts. It really adds more strategy to the draft. Do I select a current rookie, or a college player (devy)? Those kind of drafts also add a lot more value to 2nd round picks, or even 3rd round picks that allow a lot of college players. Now tell me that doesn't add a lot of strategy over the devy leagues that has two drafts, one for rookies and the other for college players (devy)?

The big craze over the last couple of years is SF, for reasons I don't understand, but IMO the next big thing will be DEVY that includes both the rookie draft and devys in the same draft.

Do not want. There's something that seems to me to be unhealthy when you're following high school kids and your success is contingent upon their recruitment and success. I never enjoyed that aspect of life or football. Tell me when they're ready for the pros. I'll look at them then. Until then, they're just kids. I mean, it helps in dynasty to have a grasp of what's coming down the pike, but at what sort of cost does it come with to uphold a system that one doesn't agree with or thinks venerates the wrong virtues in children?

Wut? I just submitted what I love about DEVY leagues and you come up with that? You must be a Democrat.

These days? Guilty as charged. LOL. That's a good one. In retrospect, perhaps I shouldn't have offered my opinion just for offering an opinion's sake. For whatever reason, I related it back to me and spoke thusly. Carry on with your DEVY love, I'm in no position to judge, really.

I believe most DEVY leagues are more focused on college production (and to some degree college recruiting), with an eye on how those players project to the NFL. I am sure there are some DEVY leagues which dig deep into high school recruits, but the idea that DEVY leagues are exploiting children seems a bit misguided.
I am brand new to the DEVY world, myself, and still just learning the ropes (my rebuild team was dead last in my rookie season last year :bag: ), but I am thankful to @JohnnyU for introducing me into his league! I have always enjoyed "amateur scouting" of college players for my Dynasty league, and this adds a new layer.

Agree, I'm in Three Devy leagues (just one round each year). Never had to dig into high school production.

All the DEVY leagues I'm in can only draft college players, not high school. However, I am in a dynasty baseball league that can sign anyone.

Zach Evans had 18 carries for 134 yards and 2 TDS in Ole Miss 42 - 0 trouncing of Georgia Tech today.

Thread title depressing 😔 My dynasty league voted last year to only allow draft pick trades of one year. Meaning right now you can only trade 2023 picks, and cannot trade 2024 picks until after our draft in 2023. I get it, they're afraid when someone wants to quit they will sell off all their future firsts and try to load up with vets to win it all before cutting out. But there has to be a better answer. It's called a d-y-n-a-s-t-y league, isn't it!? Besides, it's not like we've had a ton of turnover. I think only 1 quit in the last like 6 years maybe, and they didn't pull any funny business.
