Love both of these songs. Despot is an underground rapper who has only released one song and tours with Run The Jewels and El-P and Killer Mike. There's debate over what this song's name even is. I messed up the copy paste function in my browser because I was listening to the Walkmen last night. It's On The Water I want, and has been all night. It's the moodiest, coolest song off of what I feel is their finest, You & Me. I love that album, love this song.

I think so, actually. I forget how I heard of him - oh it was a remix with Danny Brown and EL-P - but it was only a month or so ago. I just couldn't believe his flow and style. He led the remix track and I thought "well, that's impressive."

We're doing well on the older soul/R&B stuff and have some hip-hop flavor, now it's time to bring out the dance tracks. As someone who cultivated an impromptu dance party playlist three weeks ago, I can assure you that both white girls and black girls between the ages of about 25-40 will flock to the dance floor for a little new jack swing and hip-hop soul. The #1 dance track for this age range is unfortunately in a year I've already drafted, so I'll have to pass on it unless I want to mulligan at the end of the draft. But these are sure to be crowd-pleasers.

8.18 - Mary J. Blige - "Real Love" (1992)

I am an unabashed lover of The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul, and I don't think I've ever met a hip-hop lover who doesn't at very least appreciate what she's done. This is super danceable and the women love it.

8.18 - Bell Biv Devoe - "Poison" (1989)

Yet another enduring dance track. The rest of these jukeboxes are painfully devoid of new jack swing and late 80s/early 90s R&B pop. Let's rectify that and get people dancing. Never trust a big butt and a smile, fellas.

Me and the crew used to do her.

I have one sort of New Jack Swing song and will probably draft another before we're through. It was a huge sound for a while and set the stage for the mostly white boy bands who dominated the charts in the 90s.

 
Yeah, I've dabbled in that area in other drafts. I've kind of avoided my usual sweet spots of R&B guys, which is fortunate because it's proven to be as crowded a space in this draft as guitar bands.

Not that I heard. His voice was great before this New Years shows. I heard he was sick.

I listened to "How Ya Like Me Now" while scouting. Let's just say it hasn't held up as well as Ms. Blige.
