DI Jukebox Draft (66-15)- Listen up (1 Viewer)

8.09 - Despot - House Made of Bricks (2015)

This little piggie has a house made of bricks/huff and puff ##### you ain't blowing down ####

8.09 - The Walkmen - On The Water (2008) - You & Me

You know I'll never leave you/no matter how hard I try

Love both of these songs. Despot is an underground rapper who has only released one song and tours with Run The Jewels and El-P and Killer Mike. There's debate over what this song's name even is. I messed up the copy paste function in my browser because I was listening to the Walkmen last night. It's On The Water I want, and has been all night. It's the moodiest, coolest song off of what I feel is their finest, You & Me. I love that album, love this song.
never heard despot or even heard of him

that was a cool tune need to listen to more of him

guess those are his parents rolling joints and doin tai chi?

I think so, actually. I forget how I heard of him - oh it was a remix with Danny Brown and EL-P - but it was only a month or so ago. I just couldn't believe his flow and style. He led the remix track and I thought "well, that's impressive."

When I was a teenager, I had just moved from Milwaukee in November 1982 - that's a legendary story in those parts.
I moved away from Milwaukee/Madison in January 1982. My link
Looks like we both got to experience the Harvey Wallbanger and Marques Johnson years.

We're doing well on the older soul/R&B stuff and have some hip-hop flavor, now it's time to bring out the dance tracks. As someone who cultivated an impromptu dance party playlist three weeks ago, I can assure you that both white girls and black girls between the ages of about 25-40 will flock to the dance floor for a little new jack swing and hip-hop soul. The #1 dance track for this age range is unfortunately in a year I've already drafted, so I'll have to pass on it unless I want to mulligan at the end of the draft. But these are sure to be crowd-pleasers.

8.18 - Mary J. Blige - "Real Love" (1992)

I am an unabashed lover of The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul, and I don't think I've ever met a hip-hop lover who doesn't at very least appreciate what she's done. This is super danceable and the women love it.

8.18 - Bell Biv Devoe - "Poison" (1989)

Yet another enduring dance track. The rest of these jukeboxes are painfully devoid of new jack swing and late 80s/early 90s R&B pop. Let's rectify that and get people dancing. Never trust a big butt and a smile, fellas.

1967 - Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell - "Ain't No Mountain High Enough"

1968 - The Jimi Hendrix Experience - "All Along the Watchtower"

1970 - Toots & The Maytals - "Pressure Drop"

1971 - Bill Withers - "Ain't No Sunshine"

1972 - Stevie Wonder - "Superstition"

1978 - Earth, Wind & Fire - "September"

1984 - Billy Ocean - "Caribbean Queen (No More Love on the Run)"

1987 - Eric B & Rakim - "I Ain't No Joke"

1989 - Bell Biv Devoe - "Poison"

1990 - A Tribe Called Quest - "Can I Kick It?"

1992 - Mary J. Blige - "Real Love"

1995 - Mobb Deep - "Shook Ones (Pt. II)"

1996 - Fugees - "No Woman No Cry"

2000 - OutKast - "B.O.B."

Me and the crew used to do her.

I have one sort of New Jack Swing song and will probably draft another before we're through. It was a huge sound for a while and set the stage for the mostly white boy bands who dominated the charts in the 90s.

Yeah, I've dabbled in that area in other drafts. I've kind of avoided my usual sweet spots of R&B guys, which is fortunate because it's proven to be as crowded a space in this draft as guitar bands.

They did the traditional New Year's Eve show in SF. Small venue (SF Civic) but not a particularly good one.
I have that show. It was pretty hot.
Weir aged so well for so long, and he looks kinda like booger now. Was it ever said what was wrong with him when he cancelled some shows some time ago?
Not that I heard. His voice was great before this New Years shows. I heard he was sick.

I feel like I did a New Jack Swing run in one of these drafts, but who the hell really knows anymore.
I think it was the official parachute pants, high-top fade draft sponsored by British Knights but I might be mistaken.
LOL at BKs. "We got the Kool Moe Dee endorsement, we're set for life!"
I listened to "How Ya Like Me Now" while scouting. Let's just say it hasn't held up as well as Ms. Blige.

I will be in all day training sessions tomorrow and Wednesday so feel free to skip me over the next two days - I will try and make up any picks when I have some time.

More danceable stuff.

My number 2 go to karaoke song. There's a semi-long instrumental break in the middle that's perfect for extemporaneous beat boxing.

Morris Day & The Time -- Jungle Love -- 1984

I'll take that Colt45, Eeph.

Har Mar Superstar -- DUI -- 2004
