4th and 3 on your 40 yard line with 6 minutes left down by three scores. Why on earth would you punt unless you've given up on your team.

 
Chris Johnson only 9 carries, if he hasn't given up, he's at least forgoten what they did last year to have a good season.

 
lots of teams punt in that situation - most teams want to lose gracefully . . .
