Direct Headline: U.S. Women’s Soccer Team’s Equal Pay Demands Are Dismissed by Judge
...The judge in the United States women’s soccer team’s equal pay lawsuit rejected the players’ most important claims on Friday, delivering a crushing blow to the team’s four-year legal campaign against the United States Soccer Federation.... In his ruling, he dismissed the players’ arguments that they were systematically underpaid by U.S. Soccer in comparison with the men’s national team. In fact, Klausner wrote, U.S. Soccer had substantiated its argument that the women’s team had actually earned more “on both a cumulative and an average per-game basis” than the men’s team during the years at issue in the lawsuit...The players, including stars like Megan Rapinoe, Alex Morgan and Carli Lloyd, eagerly embraced that fight. They leveraged their popularity and their huge social media followings to rally supporters and, critically, U.S. Soccer sponsors to their side...Asked in March what it would take to avoid a trial this year, Rapinoe replied acidly, “An actual offer for equal pay, and some considerable damages as well....”
....The legal fight officially began in April 2016, when five top women’s players — acting, they said, on behalf of the team — filed a wage discrimination complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the federal agency that enforces civil rights laws against workplace discrimination. In their filing, the players said they were being shortchanged on everything from bonuses to appearance fees to meal money... and sued U.S. Soccer for wage discrimination...
....U.S. Soccer long argued that the claims of discrimination were unfair. It said, accurately, that the players had negotiated their own pay and working conditions in a series of collective bargaining agreements, and it even produced fact sheets arguing that the female players had actually earned more than the men in recent years....In February, after years of failed negotiations and angry exchanges in court, the team even set a price for ending its lawsuit: $67 million. The amount, they said in a court filing, represented years of back pay and damages....

This week U.S. Women’ Soccer sued on the basis of gender discrimination for a contract THEY asked for. The judge threw the case out. The lawsuit is stupid, BUT these chicks should get paid more than the men... and I know how to fix it.
"You can't sue someone for giving you the contract, you asked for....You also can't call someone a sexist for giving you a contract, you asked for...if you ask for a sexist contract, US Soccer isn't oppressing you, you are oppressing you...."

Direct Headline: USWNT players reach settlement with U.S. Soccer for total of $24 million in pay discrimination lawsuit
The 28 U.S. women’s national team players who sued U.S. Soccer for pay discrimination in 2019 have reached a proposed settlement with the federation on Tuesday morning. U.S. Soccer has agreed to pay $22 million in back pay as direct compensation to the players as part of the resolution of the long legal dispute, which goes back to a 2016 complaint filed to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission....
“We’re so happy,” USWNT star Megan Rapinoe told The Athletic. “We feel like this is a huge win — obviously contingent upon the ratification of the CBA — but it will have equal pay on everything moving forward. It’s honestly kind of surreal. I feel like I need to take a step back. We’ve all been in the trenches of it for so long. I think I honestly don’t even understand how monumental this is.”...Rapinoe said that the players achieved the “justice” of future players never having to suffer the same inequities, or fight the same fight for equal pay — but also reflected on the players before them. Cone, a member of the ‘99 World Cup champion squad, was instrumental now on the other side as president.....A former national team player herself, Cone is facing a re-election battle against her predecessor Carlos Cordeiro to serve as president of U.S. Soccer. Legal costs for the federation have only increased over the past few years, with their annual fiscal report for FY2021 showing over $9 million paid to firm Latham & Watkins.....
....The federation had already anticipated a major hit to their financial reserves by 2023 (from about $120 million to $40 million) ..... so the settlement amount may be one that youth and state associations have a hard time understanding considering the overall scope of U.S. Soccer extends far beyond the senior national teams....

Direct Headline: Hope Solo Accuses Megan Rapinoe of ‘Bullying’ US Teammates Into Kneeling During Anthem
Hope Solo is not exactly in agreement with her former U.S. Women’s National Team player Megan Rapinoe’s political activism and accused the famous midfielder of “bullying” fellow team members into taking a knee at games.... Solo said she didn’t agree with the current USWNT captain’s decision to bring politics onto the pitch. “I think the rhetoric surrounding this team has been both divisive and inclusive. I guess it’s kind of where we are in politics in this day and age,” Solo said....Solo continued, “I think the kneeling thing can be very divisive. I’ve seen Megan Rapinoe almost bully players into kneeling because she really wants to stand up for something in her particular way....”
....Solo was referring to ongoing controversy within the USWNT and larger U.S. Soccer Federation regarding how teams are required to conduct themselves during the national anthem at games. Rapinoe and several other current USWNT opted to kneel during the anthem in games last year, but not everyone decided to do so — including forward Carli Lloyd....
....“For players that are standing I would say, continue to educate yourself,” Rapinoe previously told Goal. “Continue to educate yourself on the racial history in the country and continue to challenge yourself on why you’re standing, and why you’re putting maybe your personal beliefs over something like this that is so pressing to so many people....”...Rapinoe, who was named one of Time Magazine’s most influential people last year, doesn’t shy away from making her political views known.....
