Dieon rips eagles fans (1 Viewer)

From what I gather, is he trying to say the fans in philly are racist?

http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/moving_...agles_fans.html

Donovan McNabb arrived at the NFL Network's set at the Linc for a post-game interview. Many fans stayed in the stands to applaud McNabb, who threw four touchdowns in the victory.

As fans chanted McNabb's name, Sanders interrupted.

"Can I tell them something for you?" he said. "First of all, I would like to tell all these idiotic fans to shut-up. Don't get on his bandwagon now. You're the same guys who booed him on his first incompletion."

Host Rich Eisen then asked Sanders what he thought of the Philly fans.

"I can't stand them. I really can't. It's not because I was a former Cowboy because I didn't give a darn about any fans. They all hated me because I performed well," Sanders said. "But they way they treated this man from Day One, it's not justifiable. They will not treat any other quarterback in the NFL, like we said, Peyton Manning don't get treated like that. Tom Brady. And I know you [McNabb] can't say it, but I would really like on your behalf, you can take this...God bless you guys. ... "

Personally this guy can kiss my ###. For one, its sometimes impossible to distinguish why people are booing. Espeically when you have one thing happen and another thing on the extremely large big screen at the linc. Funny thing is the amount of people booing during the pre game with these guys lol. Whenever they would talk you would hear them booing. Probably sanders too. I don't think anyone hated Sanders because he played well, it was probably because he is an arrogant ( ! )

The city only voted McNabb the top QB in franchise history. Have been clamoring that he is not the problem, that everyone wants Reid gone ( because of play calling and poor talent evals ). The media has this sense that the entire city wants McNabb gone when it is the complete opposite.

Clearly Deion doesn't know what he is talking about. Philly booed SANTA CLAUS!! A white santa claus.

If Santa Claus can get booed, that means no one is immune from boos.

since when aren't fans allowed to boo? god i hate this people who think we should all just sit back on our hands and be ok with a bad or mediocre team.

shut up deion.

is that really true? because they've been force feeding us that philly fans want kolb in and mcnabb out.

Eagles fans (and I can speak for a few) want the McNabb from a few years ago. The McNabb that put fear into the heart of D Cords because of his arm and FEET. Sadly McNabb has been very reluctant to run the ball even when it was clearly the best option at the time. We want the McNabb that will scramble for 5 yards and a first down. If we are going to be forced to watch a pocket QB then bring in Kolb because DMac is at his best when he is willing to run.

Well...maybe not racist...but Philadelphia is a god awful place to live and be a fan of anything Philly.

Their fans are quite possibly the worst in football...except maybe Oakland.

He's become so irrelevant that I thought you were talking about Branch (who's pretty irrelevant himself).

.... ridiculous comments by that blowhard fool (Sanders) ...

gee, wonder what Sanders would've said about those 70,000 white fans in Giants Stadium LAMBASTING Eli last year ... during and after the Minnesota debacle ... were they also "racist"? hmmmm .... seems the same G-Men "faithful" loved Eli a few weeks later when he was hoisting the Lombardi Trophy on Broadway.

fans boo mediocrity/disappointment ... enough of this incessant "blame game" ... enough. :lmao:

EXCELLENT point.

he is also probably referring to the draft when the Eagles faithful booed uncontrollably when the Eagles picked Donovan and not Ricky Williams, which was a completely classless move at the time as well.

Sounds to me like the OP inserted race into Deions mouth. Nowhere did Deion say the word race.

While he mentions Brady and Manning I would bet that if Eisen asked Deion "Would they boo Peyton or Brady if they were the Eagles QB" my guess is Deion would say "What the heck are you talking about, of course they would, they would boo anyone".

Deions comments had zero to do with race and I didn't even see it as implied, I seen it as him saying Philly fans are brutal, period.

Eh not fishing. The comments looked a tad on the racist side by bringing up Brady and Manning. Was he saying it because of how they played in past years? Was he implying we wouldn't boo them cause they are white?

As for booing him on draft day?. 1. the dirty 30 club were a bunch of 610WIP people who were sent there by the radio station itself. Horrible station really. They didnt boo mcnabb personally, they booed because they. that group and wip610, wanted ricky williams.

Yes it is true. A very large portion of this city wants mcnabb to stay. A nice chunk that was in the middle went with the keep mcnabb after the brutal play calling by reid this season. He kinda showed what the problem was. A few of the talking heads pointed this out also. Hey i know the guy isnt 25 anymore but you cant ask him to dial up 50 passes a game with 15 rushes and expect to win. At the same time no one is sure what is going on with next season. Are they going to keep McNabb? He is owed 9 mill i think and our cap guy is very very cheap at times. I think a few might be thinking, hey, if you are going to release mcnabb this offseason and we are out of the playoffs completely...then start kolb and see what he has.

Last night the play calling was in martys hand ( he had the playcall sheet ) where as reid has had it the past few weeks. I cant believe i am saying marty moernwheg is a better play caller then andy reid but the guy has said this whole season he would run more, wants to run more.

Getting that running game going opened up many lanes for McNabb with passing and his scrambling. He doesnt have to run for 60+ yards a game but just seeing him out the pocket was nice.

If you are outside of philly, i would try not to listen to what most media guys say, there are only a few that kinda really know what is going on. Dont listen to a thing Sal Palantonio says either. The guy is a two faced eagles haters.

I want the guy to retire here. Will it happen? Hard to say.

That they're still passionate and smart? The Santa in the 60's was a drunk guy in a costume. He was awful and booed accordingly.

The QB is a choke artist with no heart. When McNabb didn't stand up for the fans he lost a lot more of them. Pushing the mic closer to Deion as to say speak it louder was the classless, heartless QB who throws up when the heat is on. He's as much of a leader as any other coward.

Above is an example of one of the few that doesnt realize how much nicer we have it at QB then alot of other teams in the league.

I'm going to speak for Deion here because I understood what he meant, there is a reason he picked these two guys(Brady/Peyton).Think about it, when are Brady/Peyton mentioned in the same breath?Sink in yet?If you're not there yet, just picture any announcer on any channel saying Peyton Manning and Tom Brady are............Ok, i think you got it now.Just in case you don't it is because they are considered the two best QBS in the league. It was Deion being flattering to McNabb sticking his name right next to them.

 I really hope you come back here when McNabb is driven out by fans like you and eat crow after having to witness anohter 10 years of the Bobby Hoyings of the world. McNabb was pushing the mic to Deion because Deion kept on rambling about random crap when they were supposed to be interviewing McNabb. He pushed the mic toward Jimmy Johnson in the same way. Do I think McNabb loves being in Philly? No. Do I care? No. As long as he's the best option at QB for this team, I want him to be starting.

I thought about this too. Thing is....both them guys have won superbowls. Everyone knows if you don't win a super bowl you don't get placed in that category with others who did. Players knows this, announcers etc. I don't think it is right but that is how it is.

:lmao: I really hope you're here if Reid stays and McNabb goes. McNabb was the only QB taking first team reps from training camp on since Reid's been here. Other than the debacle that was 05 the Eagles have done fine without McNabb. Go ahead and hook your cart to Donovan. I've seen enough to know when it's a good D he chokes.

I think Deion is right on the money, FWIW. Philly has a high percentage of tools in the fanbase. They have no idea about sportsmanship at all. There is a reason they have a court right on the premises.

Yea that was back at the vet. Nice try. Most of the tool box people are from WIP. The sports radio that has a few loud mouth guys on there. If one of them says go boo westbrook at the players entrance, they will. Again this is in any city though. You will have your small % that stands through. Like all those fans that tossed bottles during that browns game a few back...just a few that spoil the bunch.Sadly in philly those few are the ones that get most media attention. Could you imagine how much coverage philadelphia would have got if they pulled the billboard prank like bengals fans did? ( which rocked ).I still want to hear what the janitor has to say.

I'll assume that's an honest question and you're not fishing. Answer: There's nothing in the article about race. He's saying Philly fans are ####ty fans.
:goodposting: I saw the interview live last night (it was hilarious btw) and I have no f'in idea how the OP came away with the idea that Sanders hinted at racism. That's silly. He basically told them to shut up because they were terrible fans.

philly fans blow.
The NFL needs Philly fans. NFL fans need Philly fans. Philly fans are some of the most loyal, fierce, and old school fans there are. They rank right there with Steeler fans. I believe our society has become so sensitive and touchy feely they cannot stand a little criticism, such as booing. We want to scream and yell anytime someone's feelings gets hurt. Whatever happened to the day when America was tough? All we are now is bunch of whiney, don't hurt my feelings girly men.

I was hoping that was for the play selection... 3 passes when we've been having success running the ball. Fans were thinking that Reid was sinking back into the passing rut despite ample evidence to support the need for a run game. At least that is my hope..

I'm far from a Deion fan, but there's nothing to see here.

I watched the entire post-game show, and I saw the comments in question. He said ALL of them with a smile on his face. He was simply giving the 40 or 50 Philly fans who stuck around a hard time. Nothing more, nothing less. Move along.

Link to the part where Deion called them racist?

Fans in NE and Indy haven't booed Manning and Brady because those two haven't really given them any reason to, not because they are white.

They didn't boo Peyton when he was drafted because the fans wanted him, they booed McNabb when he was drafted by Philly because they wanted Ricky Williams instead, I think even the mayor of Philly was calling for Williams. IIRC Ricky Williams is black too.

Deion is just a little whiny bish. He's  because the fans around the set last night were relentlessly taunting him all night.

As for McNabb, yes the vast majority of eagles fans still want him as QB. Philly just happens to have an extremely vocal minority. I happen to be one who knows that McNabb cant win the big game. So, yeah he's the best the Eagles have ever had. But, he's still not good enough (or tough enough mentally) to win a big game

i agree with your assesment, but i think the fans are wrong in this case. They dont understand what hey have with McNabb. The grass is not always greener.

Deion Sanders is nothing more than a circus clown. I can't believe that anyone would look towards him for any kind of wisdom about any subject.

Unfortunately, I think the OP is turning a blind eye towards his hmetown fans in a rather well-named way. Before you say I have no clue about what I'm talking about just like others, please note my location.1. Philly fan toolish behavior predates WIP. Yes Cataldi's dirty 30 were reponsible for what they did at the draft, but the general boorishness & low IQ is on them. WIP selects those people, precisely because a lot of fans self-identify with that behavior. That will prove the toolish behavior is not caused by WIP, but they've amped it up - deliberately.2. The Santa thing IS overblown, there's debate as to whether he was drunk or not, he was a fill-in satna, etc. Still it happened.3. You immediately accusing Deion of playing the race card is pretty weak, and incorrect.4. There is a segment of fans, >10-15% in my estimation, who want him gone specifically bcause he's black. I'd estimate it's 1 in 5 from my personal experiences, and I'm cutting that in half for the general populace so I don't overvalue my anecdotal evidence.5. The toughness & loyalty is great, but the physical violence is not. For example: beating up on women wearing the opposing teams outfits at the World Series is not - I know it's a different sport, but I was there at the Vet watching it and trying to get the authorities involved.

Why didn't you step in and help her out?

All I know is that at one point last night Philly was up 14-0 and Mcnabb was 6 for 6 passing. He then threw his first incompletion, and got a chorus of boos for it. What a bunch of asstards.
This is a good example of hearing what you want to hear. My perception was that the Eagles had marched down the field the first two times they had the ball by running Westbrook. This series they tried to pass all 3 plays they had the ball and actually lost 3 yards in the process. I felt that the fans were booing the play calling not the incomplete pass. To me, it was just another example of Reid insisting that he needs to throw the ball even when the run is working well. That was my impression - you heard boos for the incomplete pass. Really don't know who is right because I wasn't there. But I don't depend on out of town announcers to interpret Philly fans because most of them just come into Philly and trot out the same old tired cliches week after week. I guess, for them, it's easier than really doing your homework about the fan environment here. Are many of the Eagles fans crybabies - yeah I'd say so. BUT they also understand the game, sell-out the stadiums, and refuse to sit there and take it when they think an organization is short-changing them.

5. The toughness & loyalty is great, but the physical violence is not. For example: beating up on women wearing the opposing teams outfits at the World Series is not - I know it's a different sport, but I was there at the Vet watching it and trying to get the authorities involved.
Maybe she was getting beat up for something she said, not something she was wearing? As a Colts fan who travels to opposing venues all the time, I find it better to not stir the hornets nest while wearing my Colts jersey.

I agree with that, but these are the drunken outliers that create a bad name for all Philly fans. Deion can say what he wants about them booing McNabb, but the bottom line is they are brutally honest, and McNabb's play was absolutely terrible for a few weeks there. They will not sugarcoat things when times are tough, and people (namely Deion) misinterpret the booing as 'jumping off the bandwagon'. Deion clearly doesn't understand that there is no bandwagon in Philly. Philadelphian's are born and bred to live and die by their sports teams, and they always want them to succeed. They are knowledgeable and they will let the teams know whether or not they are playing up to the standards of the town.I attended the Phillies parade, and I've never experienced such a tremendous event - I feel like nearly all of Eastern Penn./South Jersey/Northern Delaware dropped what they were doing to show what a championship meant to this town.

4. There is a segment of fans, >10-15% in my estimation, who want him gone specifically bcause he's black. I'd estimate it's 1 in 5 from my personal experiences, and I'm cutting that in half for the general populace so I don't overvalue my anecdotal evidence.

I dont care where you are from, point number 4 of your post is ridiculous.

Probably about 1 in 5 Philly fans wants McNabb gone but it is not because he is black. These fans have seen the best of McNabb and that is certainly behind him. They want an Eagles' championship. It is clear to EVERYONE that McNabb is not capable of leading them to a championship. Most of the Philly fans would be fine with taking a temporary step back if they thought that it would give them a better chance at a Championship in the next 5 years. As with all Cities where the starter is struggling, there is a lot of buzz around Kolb. A good percentage in Philly would like to move to the Kolb era for a better chance 2 years from now.

The grass may not always be greener but the fans here have seen enough of McNabb. Add his poor play to his irritating personality and martyr attitude and you get why Philly is ready to be done with McNabb.
