Hey there baseball experts, so I'm in a casual league with some friends and it's a yahoo autodraft, which leads to the usual fun - such as me drafting a 1B in each of the first 4 rounds! :bag: (though at least I can actually play all 4 as one is 3B eligible and I have two utility spots).

Anyhow, it's head to head format. There's 12 teams.

Batters: Runs, Hits, HR, RBI, SB, OPS

Pitchers: W, SV, ER, K, WHIP, K/BB

In addition to the mess of 1B, I have 6 of the top 20 relief pitchers.

Roster is below. I've been offered A J Burnett in exchange for Aardsma. Should I do it? I have very few wins guys and fear I'll be behind in the strikeout race each week as well. Another team that is poor in RP has Shields, Wolf and Garza. Should I maybe target one of them?

Anyhow, here's my team. Start 2 SP, 2 RP, 4 P, 1 of each position plus 2 Util

SP: Beckett, Peavy, Oswalt, Hudson, Kazmir (DL)

RP: Mariano, K-Rod, B Wilson, Fuentes, Aardsma, Jenks (yes ridiculous)

1B: Fielder, Cabrera, Morneau, Reynolds (who I'm using at 3B)

2B: Polanco

SS: Alcides Escobar

OF: Bay, ManRam, N Morgan, Stubbs Gutierrez

Any help sorting out this mess appreciated

Thanks :suds:

Yeah I've thought about it more and I think the W's and K's will definitely be a big plus and that what Aardsma gives me is just gonna be wasted basically.

The lucky part of the format is that I actually can start all 4 of my 1B so I think I can be a bit more patient there.

Phillips owner has Teixera so I think there's no soup there.

The Pedroia owner is a Red Sox fan, so that might be a tough sell as well :)

Grabbing Kyle Blanks even though I don't really need an OF - just seems like he's a guy that is in a real good spot, though on a horrible team. (Don't have to drop anyone as I have Kazmir on the DL).

The challenge will be upgrading at middle infielder in a way that doesn't downgrade my utility spot. Might be better off looking for that waiver wire type guy who gets hot instead.

Maybe I should get rid of the platooning Stubbs and take a shot at a young up-and-coming infield in his place?

The problem isn't necessarily that you have too many RPs (I always try to have 4-5 closers). It's just that they are too good. Instead of looking to deal Aardsma for Burnett, I'd be looking to deal Mariano or K-Rod (or both) for a much better pitcher than Burnett (the K's are nice, but an injury-prone guy that pitches at Yankee stadium and walks way too many doesn't excite me).

It sounds like you are trying to deal out the "guys you don't need and don't care to lose". When that's what you are trying to give, that's what you'll get in return. If you give up a closer that actually hurts a little lose, you might get a SP who will actually help your staff. (Not to mention it's a complete waste of resources to have 2 top 5 closers. Having 1 isnt' a great use of resources).

Thanks for the advice. (Though I did pull the trigger already - oops :lmao: ) but I think it'll be okay.

Still feel like I have room to deal with the team I have. Though hopefully I won't be  Burnett soon.

What level SP do you think is gettable for a K-Rod or Mariano?-QG
Of course the value of your players in a trade all depends on what the other team needs but based strictly on ADP.Rivera is #56SP in that area include Santana, Carpenter, Beckett, Johnson, Vazquez. KRod is #87SP in that area include Cain, Hanson, Kershaw

Personally, I'd give Mariano or K-Rod (much rather give up K-rod, but I'd go with either) for any of Felix, Verlander, Kershaw, or Hanson (assuming Lincecum is no shot). You could try offering for Lincy, but personally, I like to just offer serious trades. I never have any interest in completely fleecing someone and I'd guess it would just as likely turn them off and hurt negotiating. I doubt he'd go for Felix or Verlander either, but it might be worth a shot and it'd leave some negotiating room. Offering up Mariano for Felix might be a good place to start.

Well I offered up Mariano for Felix. Doubt he'll go for that but we'll see what happens.

Forecast: It'll be something like K-Rod for Kershaw or Hanson. Any thoughts on which is better to have? Right now leaning Hanson in that regard.

I've decided to stick it out with my 4-headed 1B situation. Mainly because I don't think I can get a bump at SS that would sufficiently compensate for the drop-off in utility from one of those 4 to Kyle Blanks.

thanks for the help

offered Mariano for Felix

He countered with Mariano and Cabrera for Felix and Ortiz.

I re-countered with K-Rod for Hanson.

Ugh. He's stuck on a 1B. All he has at the position is David Ortiz.

Basically trading one of my 4 1Bs means that I'm dropping to Blanks as my Utility guy.

Actually it's one of three as I can't let go of Reynolds -he's really my 3B.

It doesn't help that his interior infield guys aren't all that appealing.

My roster (updated with Burnett).

SP - Beckett, Peavy, Burnett, Oswalt, Hudson, Kazmir's on the DL

RP - Rivera, K-Rod, B Wilson, B Fuentes, Jenks

C- Posada

1B- Fielder, Cabrera, Morneau (all 3 start since I have 2 utility spots)

2B- Polanco

SS- Alcides Escobar

3B- Reynolds is my only one.

OF- Bay, Manny, Nyjer Morgan, Blanks, Stubbs, F Gutierrez

His roster

SP - Lincecum, Felix, Verlander, Kershaw, Hanson, Jered Weaver

RP - Francisco, Fraser, Gonzalez

C - Montero

1B - D Ortiz

2B - A Cabrera (also SS), F Lopez

SS - Theriot, C Guzman

3B - DeRosa

OF - Crawford, Ethier, T Hunter, C Gonzalez, A Rios, Wells, Chris Young

If I deal Morneau, I'm stepping down to Blanks as my utility guy. And I MUST get Felix in that deal basically.

My top two 1B aren't even in the conversation unless it's Lincecum.

Almost tempted to get into a real complex deal like.

He gives Felix, Kershaw, and Hunter

I give Morneau, K-Rod, and Burnett/Oswalt

Any thoughts from the smarter folks out there about what might work

-QG

How many OF you start? According to the first post it would be one, which is odd.
Start 3 OF sorry.So it's basically2 SP2 RP4 other P1 C1 1B1 2B1 SS1 3B3 OF2 UtilitySorry for the confusion.Is this offer laughable:I give Morneau, K-Rod, OswaltHe gives Felix, Hanson, Torii-QG
