Dillon Goes Off Tonight (1 Viewer)

Corey Dillon is going to go off tonight. I have a buddy willing to bet me $200 that Fred Taylor will have a bigger game against Buffalo on Sunday. No way. Dillon tears up the Colts tonight, or at least gets into the zone a few times.I think Taylor is overrated. Dillon will be better than Freddie this weekend.Fact.

If anything Taylor is under-rated. It's probably a coin toss though as to who will have the better game this weekend.

I wish I could take your friend up on that 200.00,Taylor and Jones together might produce better than Dillon, but Jones isn't the goaline back in NE,like he is in Jacksonville, plus Taylor isn't healthy, and will be back to Fragile Freddie this year. 2 years striaght without an injury for Fred, back to him old self this year Dillon top 10 RB this year IMO,feel sorry for all those owners that passed on Dillon, for the likes of Barlow,Taylor and company. :D

I've got both Taylor and Dillon so I hope they both go off. They better because I'm playing the owner of Moss, Faulk and McNabb.

Taylor is a superb back, and pretty much a must start every week. He actually fared pretty well against Buffalo last year (14/71/0/5.6ypc), but in Game 1 of the season, playing on the road and perhaps slightly limited by his foot, I think I would tend to agree that Dillon might actually have the better day. If historical data means anything, Dillon torched IND back in 02 with over 160 yards and 2 TDs.Me, I'm actually starting T. Jones over Freddie this week in a blatant move away from the start your stud theory. If there is any time to play a favorable matchup, it's the first week, IMHO, while teams are still coming into their own.

i think dillion is finally happy. usually happy players play harder and want it more. i agree he will have a good season but i dont think he will go "off" tonight.

I also think Dillon plays well tonight...I can't wait. In one league, I have both Dillon and Edge, so tonight should be loads of fun. :)

I just want Dillon to beat Rudi Johnson on the season. That's the bet I have!I don't see that big of a night for Corey tonight though. I doubt the game is "Out-of-reach" and I think it will take Dillon and the "O" a couple weeks to get things rolling. Maybe I'm basing that too much on a sub-par pre-season...but I think he needs to build on a couple weeks.20-75, POSSIBLY a TD but probably not. Interested to see if he catches a few.

Dillon is going to be a big-time bust in 04. Not only for FF but he's going to hurt the NE team. I saw every Bengal game last season. Even when he was healthy at the beggining of the year he wasn't the same guy. 1. Too many carries. Nobody in the NFL including Eddie George has had as many tough carries as Dillon over the past 6 years. 2. Just like George, Dillon has taken too many hits and the legs are almost gone. He can't get to the corner. His quickness is sub-par so he can't make people miss. And he isn't much of a bruiser anymore either. 3. Bad attitude. Don't buy the new act either. By mid-season he'll start crying and #####ing about his # of carries. This guy isn't about winning. He's all about rushing numbers and once he stops getting the numbers than the complaints are right behind.4. NE is a short passing team. The OL is average at best in the running game. He couldn't pick up yards last year running behind Willie Anderson and Steinbach. Behind the NE OL he'll struggl;e to average 3.7 yards/carry.5. He sucks in short yardage and at the goal line. For 3 seasons with CIN he couldn't score from inside the 5. It's only going to be tougher behind the NE OL. Plus, NE simply won;t give him the opportunities at the goal line. They're not going to take the ball out of Brady's hands to give it to an over the hill struggling back. They may try it early in the season but they'll quickly figure out that giving the ball to Dillon is a mistake. Weiss won;t go back to him after a while.Sorry but Dillon won't be much more than an 800 yard back this year.

2 straight years w/o injury to Taylor makes him likely to get hurt? Greg Jones is the goalline back? News to me...they've never named his such.I do know Dillon's coming off an injury riddled year though and will be sitting on 3rds...perhaps instead of fragile freddy, we have "Crumbling Corey" :D Taylor = top 10, Dillon =...we'll see.

K. Faulk being out this week is a week 1 gift to all the owners that overpaid on Dillon in the 2nd round.
I agree with both

I think Dillon is washed up. If he lucks out with a good outing tonight because of faulk being out and the weather, then all you who have him better trade him Off QUICK cause his value just goes down from here. :yucky:

I'm very keen on Taylor this year and against the bills. As someone mentioned, he had pretty good success last year on only 14 carries. He should get more than that as the passing game is questionable and the coach stated in an article (don't have time to search for it) that he wants to feed Taylor the ball even more per game than last year (there was a quote basically saying that when Taylor had 20+ touches a game the team always won). Music to my ears!

NO, Taylor wearing that boot cast on his foot for the last 2 weeks is a good sign isn't it.Not sure if he's still wearing it,but that isn't a good sign of things to come And once again, there is NO RB to take goaline carries away from Dillon.I guess G. Jones that big powerful back that Jacksonville took in the draft was just to have him sit on the bench at the gaoline RIGHT !!!!! Wrong,he's on the team to do what Toefield couldn't,be a productive goaline back.............................................................He'll destroy Taylors value the same way S. Mack did a couple of years ago !!!! :P

What in the world is going on in the Shark Pool this year. I'm very disappointed in some of these posts. People posting stuff their buddies tell them as if it's confirmed news...people posting "JAMAL LEWIS BAD FRED TAYLOR GOOD. ME LIKE LOTS". :wall: :wall: :wall:EDIT to add:

I agree with your analysis. I'll add the stats about his scoring record -- Dillon has never been very impressive in the red-zone, as you indicated:| 1997 cin | 16 | 233 1129 4.8 10 | 27 259 9.6 0 || 1998 cin | 15 | 262 1130 4.3 4 | 28 178 6.4 1 || 1999 cin | 15 | 263 1200 4.6 5 | 31 290 9.4 1 || 2000 cin | 16 | 315 1435 4.6 7 | 18 158 8.8 0 || 2001 cin | 16 | 340 1315 3.9 10 | 34 228 6.7 3 || 2002 cin | 16 | 314 1311 4.2 7 | 43 298 6.9 0 || 2003 cin | 13 | 138 541 3.9 2 | 11 71 6.5 0 |Good post.Edited to clarify scoring record.

Does your league give points for most plays not playing?
No, I get points for yardage. Dillon has 69 yards early in the third quarter and is running tough. He could easily get 100 yards.I like it.

Dillon will be a top 10 back as long as the rest of the RB's in the league average less than 10 fantasy points a game.Judas Priest Dude, he's not bankable.

Well, game is over. Dillon looked good overall. I thought for sure NE would go to him more near the end of the game, but didn't... was kinda wondering about that...

I guess Dillon didn't go off tonight, must just be stage one of his season. I would put him in the overrated/over priced area along with Barlow, and Thomas Jones.

Nice. Really smart comments. Dillon didn't get as many carries as we Dillon owners would have liked. But his yards per carry was very solid: 5.73. Plus, he ran tough and showed that he can still bust a long one. That 38-yarder was NICE.Dillon is not a RB1. That's Tomlinson (at least for me). Dillon is my RB2. I'm still not ready to write him off at all, and I think people who talk trash about him weren't watching the game.It really all depends on how heavily New England chooses to use him this season, which we can't determine from a single opening game. I think that they were learning a lot about him tonight, as well as TRYING TO WIN. Will Brady throw for 338 yards EVER GAME? I don't think so.Simply from a "how does he look" perspective, I thought Dillon looked excellent.

I respect your perspective, but I must point out that the Patriots opened with a whole series of 5 wide, no RB sets. Dillon is going to be an important part of the Patriots' offense, no doubt. But, in fantasy terms, he is going to be less-than-impressive because of the balance of this offense and the excellence of Tom Brady/the vast array of receivers that the team fields. ( 5 players over 1 reception, 7 players with receptions). Also, Dillon is not a stalwart at the goal-line.My .02.

Dillon is not a RB1. That's Tomlinson (at least for me).
I gave up 6 team leagues back in elementary school. Dillon won't finsih in the top 24 in my league this week. Yup...looked good from an NFL standpoint, sucked donkey knobs from a fantasy viewpoint.

Mark, I definitely respect your perspective, too. I certainly hope you are wrong, but you very well could be right. I'm going to wait this out a couple more games before I start jamming in Thomas Jones or Duce Staley as my RB2.

I'm beginning to wonder if you graduated from high school. (Check my sig: It's a 10-team league. Dillon fell in many drafts because people like you didn't pick him!!!)

Taylor was hurting in the preseason last year and made it through the entire season clean. :loco:

please...taylor is a stud. dillion is a #####. he looked good tonight but was not even CLOSE to being the focus of the offense.taylor is option 1. end of story.

At first glance it looks like New England had 41 pass plays and 16 runs. Do you really think that kind of ratio will hold for the season? They ran a lot of 5 wide tonight as a surprise to the Colts and because with Cloud cut and K Faulk not in town Dillon was it for RB's. I saw enough of him tonight to feel that he is still an elite NFL RB. If Dillon gets into the 20-25 carries range he should be a very good fantasy back. If he continues to get 15 touches a game he won't. My biggest concen would not be the lack of rushing attempts, but the zero passing targets. In fact, it seemed(based solely on recall) that Dillon rarely even went out as a dump off option, usually staying in to pass protect. NE was using the TE as the safety valve. Dillon has never been a big pass catching threat, but I'm sure Dillon owners would like to see a few passes thrown his way. It looks like Dillon still has the skills to produce as a fantasy back. The question is will he get enough chances on a team that has won 2 of the last 3 Super Bowl not coming close to featuring a RB.

Hmmm, maybe not...let's try a test.86 yards, 0 recpts, 0 TD = 8 fantasy pts.Check, I made it out of elementary school. Dillon won't be in the top 24 this week at RB in any of my leagues. Heck, with 30 teams remaining, 2 players (Rhodes and James) have already exceeded his fantasy production this week. As a matter of fact, in the YTD rankings of RBs with touches in the 2004 season, Dillon is dead last in production.

I'm sorry to say, but I think you Dillon owners should expect to see this from Dillon all year. Belichick didn't bring him in to carry 20-25 times a game. He'll be a great tool for the Pats but other than a few big games, he'll be a mediocre fantasy RB.As a Pats fan who had Dillon lower on my board than most, this makes me happy.
