Just finished FOP at Pandora. It was awesome. Made even awesomer by having no line and walking right on. But that required getting here at 6:00 AM for 7:00 AM Magic Hours and having them let people in at 6:40.

Not sure if my opinion would be the same after waiting for hours and hours in the hot sun.

Also had no problem fitting on the ride, and I am on the XXL size.

@glvsav37 finally working on booking things. You had a link to. All the big rides and such at some point. Any chance you can repost. Sifting through all these pages is frustrating.

Also Is there a spot where I can see parades by day?

getting excited.

MK - Seven Dwarfs, Space Mountain, Splash, Big Thunder

EPCOT - Frozen, Soarin, Test Track

Hollywood Studios - Rock 'n Rollercoaster, Toy Story, Tower of Terror

Animal Kingdom - Avatar (don't know the rides), Expedition Everest, Safari

probabaly missing something but those are most of the big ones

Pretty good list here.  I'd add Kali River Rapids to AK and Peter Pan in MK has crazy lines and is a definite FP candidate.

I went back to the link that talked about using old magicbands to get fastpasses. Looks like as of early June, its a no go. Any bands that do not have active tickets are no longer able to book fast passes.

Awesome to hear @odin33

I'm not sure if this is the link or not, but I usually recommend Touring Plans for their FP+ advice and information.
About 5 paragraphs down this page you'll see links to each park and their FP+ breakdown and recommendations for each.

Yes, as long as you are staying on site, you can begin booking your FP's 60 days +10 (30 days for off site). What 60 +10 means that you can book FPs starting at 7am on the 60th day from your check-in, plus the next following 10 days. So you don't need to log on each morning to book each remaining day of our drip, you can book the whole stay (assuming its under 10 days). Because of this, it is recommended that if you have some hard to get FP's, try and look for them on the days toward the end of your trip. The reason is that your opening date is going to fall somewhere in the middle of other people's +10. So the guy who was able to book the day to week before you, will have already crossed into your booking window. Make sense?

keep us posted if you have any other questions.

All good suggestions GB!
just want to note that for FP reasons, some of these are tier 1 (or A now I think) and you cant FP all of them in the same day....for example you can only FP 1 of your Epcot suggestions, the other 2 FPs would have to come from the lower tier.

as from my list:

MK: Seven Dwarfs, Space Mountain, Splash, Big Thunder, Peter pan—depending on ages I would FP Splash, PP, and 7DMT

Epcot: Frozen, Soarin, Test Track, of these I would FP TT or Frozen (depending on kids), rope drop Soarin (it has 3 theaters so the line move slightly better then TT)  and then FP Space Ship Earth and the 3rd is a toss up (they really bend you over here)

Studios: RnR Coaster, TS Mania, Star tours and Tower. I would FP TS Mania, Star tours and then ToT (RnR Coaster is out if you get TSMania.)

AK: Flights of Passage or Navi River (although I don't think that is particularly interesting vs the wait time), Safari, Lion King, Dinosaur, Kali River, Everest. for FPs—this is a tough park and your choices are really dependent on kids ages, height and scare level.   Everest is always a good choice, but if the kids are not into it, then hit is on the single rider line and save a bunch of time. Dino is FP worthy but can be very scary for young kids. Kali is fun but really short, and some people don't like getting that wet. The safari is a good pick, but the capacity is really great and now that they are open all night, the lines have slimmed down, eps 1st thing in the AM. The Pandora stuff is amazing, but Flights has a very high ride height requirement, and River journey—while pretty—does not seem cool enough to take a FP away from the other rides. I normally dont recommend FP'ing a show, but Lion king is a really good and popular show and yuo get in 1st with a FP.

thats my $0.02

Edit to add Haunted Mansion to my MK list. HOW THE HELL DID I FORGET THAT?????!!!!!!

@odin33 as far as parade viewing, there really is only 1 daytime parade now and that is at MK. I generally recco that you watch it from somewhere between Liberty Square and Frontierland. Main St seems to attract more people then needed and it gets tough to move around there.

If you must watch from Main St or find yourself stuck there...then make sure you get over by the barbershop. It is really hidden away spot and it is IMO the absolute best place to watch. See, it is at the very end of the parade route, right by their stage exit doors. And because so, you have the opportunity to possibly get some extra love from the characters and dancers b/c they dont need to stay in their routines any more at that point. Plus, things get backed up there a little as the floats leave the main road, so you get a little down time where the performers are waiting.

Also, you get a killer view of the Dragon Float as it comes directly at you.

I always feel like I have my finger somewhat "on the pulse" of Disney them @glvsav37 comes in and blows my mind with about a dozen things I've never seen.

I like that the video hints at a Guardians Roller Coaster.  They need a coaster there.

So no gondola from epcot to MK?  Still just the monorail I guess?

lol...thanks GB.

if you look close at that video there are a few hidden items like that, including a new 'Swolphin' tower at the Swan and Dolphin. Something is def happening at Universe of Energy b/c permits were files a few weeks ago to relocate some access drain mumbo jumbo. The video also seems fairly recent b/c it also shows a building for Ratatouille ride by Paris which seem like it is coming too.

As for the transportation, yes, the monorail will still be the main connection between MK area and Epcot. No idea when they will get updated monorail cars though b/c we really need those.

Whats interesting is how the monorail transportation gave WDW reason to inflate the prices of those "monorail resorts", I wonder if the gondolas will do the same—esp being that they are coming from both moderate and value level resorts.

Anyone got insider info on Disneyland Halloween?  We pulled the trigger on a DL trip Sept 13-16.  Looks like the consensus is that Halloween starts Mid Sept, but I haven't seen any firm dates.

The first Halloween Party last year was 9/23, but they it's so popular they might move it up.

The Halloween overlays will be installed by 9/13.  Haunted Mansion closes during August to change over to a Nightmare Before Christmas story that runs from about Labor Day through the end of the year.  This is an awesome overlay and should not be missed.

Space Mountain will be "Ghost Galaxy", so instead of stars and planets on the walls and ceiling you will see ghosts flying around and skulls catching on fire and such.  This can get a little scary for little kids.  A DLR cast member  told me they speed up the trains for Ghost Galaxy, so you will get a faster ride than during regular Space Mountain season.

Sweet!  I hope we'll have a night for the Mickey Halloween party, but we'll survive if they don't.

Haunted mansion sounds awesome.

@glvsav37 fav vlogger came out with a video saying that they plan to add Spain and Brazil to the world showcase. In for the disney Brazilian churascaria.
I've heard Brazil is confirmed but not officially announced. Didn't hear anything about Spain.

as for Brazil...lets hope that have a daily 3 pm 'Carnival" parade. yum!

D23 is just over a week away and I expect this year be loaded with announcements and previews. SW land and TS Land updates and Epcot announcements all on tap i'm sure.

As sort of a new guy to all the Disney projects/rumors I have to ask...is all this fairly normal and I've never noticed or is this like a golden age of Disney.

Avatar, TS, Star Wars, new world showcase, 2-3 new major attractions coming to Epcot, a gondola system being installed, etc.

Is this all a response to Harry Potter at Universal?  Or have I just never paid attention the past 10-15 years?

I'm all for it, I just don't want the prices to be insane 10 years from now.

its a little bit of everything. Yea, I would say that some of it is competition with universal. But overall the parks have to evolve and introduce new things.

Figure though, Avatarland was 5-6 years in the making (since announcement), SW land was inevitable from Disney buying out Lukas. There really have been no new pavilions added to WS since it opened, and Epcot is coming up on a big anniversary. So along with the steady decline in interest in that park, they need to do something big there.

And the Gondola system should actually reduce operating costs and guest satisfaction b/c they will not be as reliant on bus transportation, maintaining and replacing the fleet and all the not-so-green byproduct the buses produce. Gondolas don't get stuck in traffic and when one fills up, an empty one is right behind it.  Overall, it should lessen the need for new roads and other infrastructure.

As for costs, ticket and resort prices go up every year, regardless of new stuff or not, so we are all SOL with that lol.

But if I think back over the last few years, its really not out of the norm....figure the last 5-10 years brought us (off the top of my head):
• A new soarin theater and digital film.
• Frozen ride
• A whole new and expanded fantasyland
• Disney springs being completely redone
• The MK hub rennovation
• A new MK parade and FW shows
• Star wars taking over Studios—Launch bay, shows and fireworks
• Rivers of light/Jungle book (for what its worth) and expanded night time AK things
• Magic Band, FP+ and My Disney Experience app technology

I think the demand to know long-term plans for the parks skyrocketed in the last few years.  IMO it's an extension of the demand for trip-planning sites and information exchanges like this thread.  Once we learned it was possible to plan a trip 6-12 months in advance, we got more curious about what the parks might look like 4-5 years in advance.

Disney's acquisition of high-equity brands like Lucasfilm and Marvel have certainly played a role as well.  Fans of those brands have a built-in demand to want to know future plans for them.

Thanks for the DL info @Bruce Dickinson we're staying at the Paradise Pier and the only dinner plan is to World of Color/Ariel's Grotto dinning package one day.  We have a 3 day Park Hopper pass and we'll be there for 4 days.

You don't have to go into your entire schpill about DL (we have a pretty good grasp about what all is there), but what is there that we absolutely can't miss?  This probably won't be a once in a lifetime trip for the kids, but its pretty damn close.

Ran into the issue with only being able to book 7 days of Fast Passes for Annual Pass members staying off site over the holiday weekend.  That wasn't so fun.  My parents bought an annual pass so they could go like 14 times in 3 weeks at the end of July/beginning of August and then go again next March for their 40th wedding anniversary.  Only 7 days of fast passes for that first trip in advance (in which my sisters, our significant others and I are joining them for 7 days of Disney) put a bit of a damper on things.

I'd recommend starting with the attracions DLR has that WDW doesn't.  World Of Color is amazing and is not to be missed.  FP priority for Radiator Springs Racers at DCA.  The Mater ride is a lot more fun than it looks - you really snap though those whips.  Guardians Of The Galaxy: Breakout is their new Tower Of Terror.  (Haven't ridden it, but saw some of the construction up close.). California Screamin' is about the same pace as the Aerosmith coaster at DHS but outside and cool views.

If the kids need to run around a little, there's a Wilderness Explorers camp/playground with badges to earn.

Out favorite dessert place at DCA is the Ghiradelli shop.  The portions are generous, flavors top notch.

Maybe walk through A Bugs Land on your way to another attraction. The rides themselves are only for little kids, but the environment they created to do it is worth walking through once to appreciate the size/scale work they did.

Toy Story Mania, Little Mermaid, Soarin, Its Tough To Be A Bug are exactly the same on the inside as their WDW counterparts.  The Little Mermaid ride usually has no line and is centrally located.

Only do the Monsters Inc ride if the kids are fans.  It moves pretty slow and the tech is dated.

There's a live-action Frozen musical at the Hyperion.  It's almost an hour long and performs almost every song from the movie.  If you have Frozen fans with you they will enjoy it, and there are some cool visuals where animations from the movie are re-created to interact with the live characters.  But if you don't have Frozen fans with you I'd skip it.  It's a big time-consumer: with queueing, seating, the show itself, and exiting, you're approaching 90 minutes.

DCA has Marvel meet-and-greets.  Most popular are Spidey and Captain America.  A Guardians dance party pop-up with post-show meet-and-greets with Groot is popular this summer and should extend into fall.

------

Disneyland has the same basic layout at MK.  DL is bigger and there are a few attraction location differences, but you will recognize Main Street, the hub, and spokes out to different lands.

All the Star Wars stuff is in Tomorrowland: Star Tours, Launch Bay, Jedi Training, even the equivalent of MK's Cosmic Ray's is the Star Wars themed Galactic Grill.

The Matterhorn bobsled ride is a fun throwback and is finally on the FastPass system.

Fantasyland has more dark rides.  A lot of them are for little kids.  Of the ones not in MK, I'd rank Alice at the top, then Mr Toad, then a big drop off to Pinocchio and Snow White.

Pirates Of The Caribbean and Its A Small World are a lot bigger and better at DL.  IASM is a big visual focal point.  Big Thunder is pretty much the same.  Splash Mountain is IMO better at MK.

The Haunted Mansion Holiday ride is a must, and keep an eye out for character meets with Jack and Sally near the ride queue.

Skip the Finding Nemo submarine ride.  Takes forever to load/unload, hard to see out the windows, and not much to see anyway.

Take the monorail once.  One end is in Downtown Disney on the way from Paradise Pier Hotel to the park entry plaza, and the other end is in Tomorrowland.  If you don't mind missing Main Street, it's a cool way to enter the park.  If it's not too hot, you can request riding in the front car that has windows in three directions.  (The Monorail at DLR does not have air conditioning, so it shuts down if the temperature gets above 90 or so.  Shouldn't be a problem in September)

Fantasmic is in the Rivers Of America on the left side of Disneyland.  Late in the day it will get crowded over there with people staking out space to watch the show.  If you've seen it at DHS, I'd probably skip it.  It is interesting to see how they worked Fantasmic into the middle of a park, but when that show is one it's a great time to hit rides with shorter lines.

You won't have all the awesome restaurant options in DLR like WDW has.  Embrace the street foods.  The corndogs at DL are delicious.  My favorite meal at DL is the Bengal Barbeque skewers combined with the Mickey beignets from the Mint Julep Bar.  (we divide and conquer: I go to Bengal and order a bunch of skewers to go, the girls go to Mint Julep and get beignets and drinks, we meet at New Orleans Square tables to dine.)

Wife secured dinner at Tusker house at 5:30. I seem to recall a AK restaurant that if you booked right you got a show fore "free" or were first in line. Did we do good here? Or did I miss it.

Oh and I'll be damned if O'Hana is booked all bleepin trip.  :wall:

Cindy's royal table a good score? Got it on a very merry Christmas night. Thinking the mrs did well. Oh and celebrating "early" bday for oldest.

I think Tusker House and Tippens have the dining package but I think you have to go trough that page to do the package - if that's what you did then nice job!

CRT is very difficult to get so it's always a good reservation to get.  If you are doing the dining plan it takes 2 TS credits.  You mention the Xmas party - do you have a ticket for it?  No clue if they would let you in without it.

@AAABatteries yes got the tickets. They won't let you reserve anytime around the park shut down without.  Thx @Bruce Dickinson you made my wife smile larger than I did today.   :tebow:
My first taste of fame in this thread was the planning and execution of a December 2011 Orlando road trip that hit all four WDW Parks, both Universal parks, SeaWorld, LegoLand, Adventure Cove, plus some stuff along the way and back like seeing the Rockettes at the Grand Ole Opry.  The first day we could book dining reservations for that visit, my wife was up at 4:30 am ready to fire when the phones opened.  The first thing she booked was Christmas Day breakfast at Cinderella's Royal Table.  We've pretty much done it all at WDW, and we still talk about Christmas inside Cinderella's castle.  It still stands out.

Wife- and I quote " beast mode"

and then she makes the gesture of placing the crown upon her head

Looks official'ish???  The Tron coaster to replace the Speedway

I love it.   In 4 trips to Disney my kids asked to ride the speedway one time...and that was more than enough.
WDWNT is very good about being clear when they are reporting rumors versus what is real confirmed news.  Trust it.

It's D23 week.  The last few years this has been the time when Disney announces future plans for the Parks.  Be prepared for a lot of news to break the next 3-4 days.

yea, this is like Christmas week for me....D23 starts friday and I expect a ton of crazy announcements.

@odin33 good start so far —don't give up on Ohana keep trying every few days, but also don't let it ruin your overall vacation. Its good, but its just food.

on the 2 you've noted:

• Make sure you physically have the Dining package for Tusker house, otherwise you are just getting the meal.
• is CRT for Breakfast, lunch or Dinner? If it is dinner, is it on a night you have party tickets for? Or is is inside the park closing times for non-party guests? I read they are kicking people out an hour earlier this year, unless they have a dining ressie. Also, if you are going to the party that night, you need to weight the time spent in a restaurant vs being at the party.

If it is for for breakfast or lunch, you will need a park ticket to get in. Some people plan to not be in a park/using a ticket on their party nights. Just want to be sure that you can get to the restaurant. Also, as others have said, CRT is a 2 credit meal, so make sure you don't overbook your meals and get stuck paying for one out of pocket.

Yeah one restaurant isn't going to ruin it. Would just be nice.

On the app it says "Tusker House restaurant dinner. Disney AK. Experience type- Character dining" The description below does not mention the dining package only safari donald and friends regardless of time of day. Dinner is at 5:45. Guessing we missed it.

CRT is for dinner 5:30 I think, maybe 5- had to call them to get it (not showing on app because had to phone it in), and disney rep was shocked it was available. Also had be our guest available. Yes park is closing at 6 (an hour earlier than usual). We'll likely miss some of that 'alone time' in the park, but hopefully not too much. No idea how long these types of meals last?!?! VMC says it starts at 8:15 so there shouldn't be any competition there. Need to do more research as to what MVMC all entails.

Wife was able to secure a character dinner each day/night we're there (kids are 9 and 6) so this was a higher priority.

[Sorry for the long post:]

Notes:

Have park hopper

season passes at home to amusement park with water park so looking for Disney things we can't find up here. I was surprized at the lack of 'big' rollercoasters though. I know that's not their thing, but just seems a bit odd.

Arrival day (land at ~11:30) What's a reasonable commute time, I'm thinking 45-60 to get to hotel (may bypass this and check in online and head straight to MK)

-Have 'dinner/big meal' scheduled for 3:20 in MK at crystal palace

-Hoping to get FP for 7DMT to knock at least one of the big guns out (space mountain is out for us)

Day 2 is HS for a half day (no RnR for us- I might go single rider, and they aren't into star wars), lunch with Minnie at HW & Vine. Then headed to Epcot for food and wine in the afternoon evening (free forming it here so suggestions appreciated).

Day 3 is AK with Tusker house dinner

Day 4 Epcot with Via Napoli dinner

Day 5 MK with lunch at Chef Mickeys (it's about a 1015 walk from MK to hotel right?)

Day 6 ?? Likely more of a rest/pool day but we'll hit a park. Cindy's Happily ever after dinner @grand floridian

Day 7 is CRT for dinner and MVMC

Get away day is Chip & Dales harvest feast but this will likely be cut doe to CRT taking two dining credits. Park TBD.

Where you staying again? I forgot. Was it the Contemporary still?

If you are taking the Magical Express bus, I would plan 1-1.5 hours to get to the hotel just to be safe. But at 11:30 there is little chance of actually checking in and getting a room so yea, you can go to the park. If you want, Bell services will hold your carry on items for you.

With your big meal, thats a perfect time b/c after that you can go back to the resort, check in and your bags should be there. Unwind, unpack and then head out for a night trip.

Day 2 sounds great, hitting HS for a 1/2 is perfect if no one is into SW. Its been a long time since I've done F&W, so ill let others chime in. I think @AAABatteries knows his way around there well.

Day 3: IDK if you have the actual dining package, I would call and confirm.

Day 4...save me a seat, i'm joining you :D

Day 5: 5-10 minute walk, just follow the path or at that time you can take the monorail. The resort Monorail goes clockwise (with MK being at 12) and the contemporary is the very next stop after MK.

Day 6: is that at 1900 park Fare? we love that place, do breakfast and dinner there each time.

Day 7: as you said, its is your party day. so if I were you I'd get to the park as early as you can and make sure you are at CRT pretty early—this way you might get sat and finished quicker. Just so you don't cut into party time. But as I think you said, its an early B-day cell, so enjoy it. I've never done a party (Halloween or Christmas—I know, shoot me), so I'll let others weigh in on what to expect.

sound like a makings of a great vacay!!

Where you staying again? I forgot. Was it the Contemporary still? Port Orleans French Quarter- Read last night a downfall of said location is water is only to Disney springs I think, and the bus makes three stops at Port orleans Riverside before heading out to parks. Can add half hour which stinks but we'll manage. I can start to see the real appeal of the luxury spots.

Whatever is arranged through their site is what we are using

The lady helping booking said get there 15 minutes early as there's a grace period so hopefully we can get in and out. @Bruce Dickinson any idea on how long that dinner lasted. I know I'm ok as we have 3 hours before party, just trying to maximize.

I just finished two days at Disneyland/California Adventure in Anaheim.  FYI - Fastpasses are still used and are still disbursed by kiosks near the rides.  But the change is that now your park entry ticket is used in the fastpass line, not the fastpass ticket that is distributed at the kiosk.  Each fastpass ride line requires you to scan your park entry ticket at the entry point and end of the line. You don't need the fastpass ticket that is disbursed and can just throw that away when you get it. The scan machines at the rides know when your fastpass return times are, and the machine will warn the Disney employees if you are using a fastpass after your allotted time. But in every case where that happened, the Disney personnel allowed us to continue in the fastpass line even though our allotted time had passed.

@odin33 don't worry, POFQ is a great resort. Yes the deluxe's are located right near the parks but its no big deal. The bus may take a bit longer to get to a park, but if you think about it, most deluxe resorts are located near 1 park, but just as far away from the others as any moderate. So its really not a huge issue. Plus, if you are looking at a $200 difference per night in price between resort levels, and the bus is your main concern, take an Uber or taxi instead for $15 and boom...I just saved you $185. lol.

And even at deluxe, the bus stops at multiple resorts as well. the Contemporary bus stops and the Polly and either Fort Wilderness or Grand flow depending on where you are going.

As for transportation from the airport, you should be booked on the Magical Express. Its a free shuttle to the resort. Be sure and check b/c it is a separate phone call to make where you need to provide your flight info. You will then receive yellow baggage tags that need to go on each piece of checked luggage (always ask for extra just in case). They will come in a separate envelope in the mail. Put them on before you leave the house for the airport—the airline will not do it. Also, wear or carry on your magic bands....sound silly but believe me, people check them in their bags sometimes.

once you get to MCO, go right to the Magical Express area (Level 1, side B) and they will put you on a bus. They usually make 3 stops, so you could be 1st or last, so thats why you budget an extra 1/2 hour. The checked bags will collected by disney staff at the airport and transported to the resort about 2+ hours later...thats why its cool to leave your carry on's with Bell services and come back after your meal—Check in after 4, call for bags, take a leak, freshen up the deodorant and unpack a little. Take a walk around the resort, get the lay of the land, and then go back to the park at nigh.

When leaving, the night before you'll get a letter under your door that says what time your bus back to the airport will pick you up. That morning, have your bags ready, call bell services and go to the airport desk that will weigh and tag your luggage then transport them to the airport for you. Leave your carry ons' with Bell Serves and go enjoy some last day stuff. But be careful not to get too far away b/c the bus will leave w/o you.
