Disney Vacation (5 Viewers)

Wow, it rained last evening for about an hour. Hardest rainfall I've ever seen that wasn't a tropical storm or worst. I got stuck in it walking to Terralina for dinner and was soaked to the skin.
As an aside, the drainage in Disney Springs is appalling. You could have swam in the puddle outside Raglan Road.
They moved Splash Mountain over to that area. Nobody told you?

Man I must have used up all my good luck with the weather in my previous trips. It's absolutely poured buckets every night we've been here. Every night at about 4-5:00 the skies just open up.

How long did the rain last?
Just about all night. The morning/ early afternoon have been fine. Come 5ish though, it's pouring.
Tomorrow is supposed to be the only decent day.

The last two days weren't to bad weather wise. It rained a bit on Sunday, but just an hour or so (it poured overnight). Monday was great, so we hit up Epcot.
We tried, mostly anyway, to hit different restaurants. Some were good, some were ok.
Thursday we hit Teralina in Disney Springs. It was average at best. If we were with a group that wanted to go, I would go back, but wouldn't seek it out myself.
Friday we hit up Flying Fish. Excellent, definitely worth the hype.
Saturday was when Noah was leaving in the ark, so we went to Turf Club in Saratoga Springs. Again, it was ok. If I were to do it over, I would have gotten a burger at their quick serve.
Sunday we went to the Edison in Disney Springs. Very good burger, I would go again.
Sunday was old reliable, Via Napoli. I love that place so much.
We spent the first three at Saratoga Springs and two days at Bay Lake Tower. I gotta say, I liked SS better. I heard BLT was getting a refurb, and it's badly needed. In the near future, if I'm looking at a monorail resort, it's going to be the Poly.

Im a bit late on these but I have 215 dvc points available for rent before Oct 1.

Even if you are going and have a room booked, I might be able to save you a bunch of money and get you in a great resort.

So it was D23 weekend and (unlike last time) the parks ands resorts event was chock full of news and announcements.

Starting in Animal Kingdom
• Dinoland and Dinosaur ride is being rethemed into "Tropical Americas" which includes an Encanto dark ride (sources are pointing at something similar to Mystic Manor in Hong Kong) and an new Indiana Jones ride (unlike the DL version). (opening 2027)
• A Zootopia show will replace tough to be a bug inside the Tree of Life (winter 2025)

Studios:
• Monsters inc land will be added to the park with the main attraction being a suspended indoor coaster that will take you through the final scenes of the original movie as the collection of doors are shuffled around the factory. Most likely this will be taking over the current Star Wars Launch Bay and the Animation building and the animation courtyard rethemed to Monstropolis
• Smugglers run will get a new story with Mando and the youngling

MK
• The "Beyond Big Thunder" project is coming to fruition as a brand new Car's Land will be built. This radiator Springs version will feature a ride similar to the one in California, but with an off-road race. A family friendly attraction is also included in the land.
• Not many details were given, but finally a Villains Land is being planned. This land would celebrate the movie villain's and seems like an answer to the UO "Classic Monster's" land at their new park. Sources say that Tom Sawyer's island and the riverboat will be casualties of this expansion.
• A new nightime parade called Disney Starlight, will debut in summer 2025

2 new lounges:
• A Space Ship Earth themed lounge. If you didnt know, most of the pavilions at Epcot have VIP areas for employees of the companies that sponsored it. Here they are turning the Seamen's lounge public and making an operating lounge out of it.
• A Pirates of the Caribbean lounge in the MK somewhere in Adventureland

Disneyland & DCA
• Avenger's Campus is doubling its size. The expansion will begin next year! Avengers Infinity Defense, and Stark Flight Lab attractions. Fro the Stark ride, you will be in a Kuka Arm for a simulated flight experience.
• A Coco boat ride for DCA going through the Land of the Dead. Breaking ground in 2026
• An Audio-Animatronic figure of Walt Disney is being created for a new show, "Walt Disney A Magical Life," in the Main Street Opera House.
• An Avatar experience based on the second movie will be added to DCA. The ride will use similar tech to Shanghai's Pirates of the Caribbean which is amazing and you should check it out on youtube.

that is a ton of stuff and if I know disney, I will believe it when I see shovels in the ground. They claim that all of it is confirmed, but nothing is set in stone until my rear end is on it lol

I'm looking forward to it. I know there is some hand wringing over Tom Sawyers island but, honestly, who actually goes over there. It's easily been a decade since I have. Now the steam ship, I liked the esthetic, but won't miss it. I would actually keep it there and make it a restaurant or something.

1st look at the new Cars area that will be taking over TS Island and the river area.

if you look close at the artwork, it looks like Frontierland—with the western style building and Pecos Bills—is on the far left and big thunder is in the top right corner, so this would be where the river area where you jetty over to TSI current is now. And at the bottom center is the blue green roof top of the Liberty Belle boat launch (see it here)

I wonder where that walkway on the right is going? Could that be where the new Villains land will be? there is more space up in that area.

I thought one of the goals of this was to not have one way in and out like Frontierland is right now? Can they backdoor this (and the new future Villains Land) somehow into FantasyLand or at least connect in in front of The Haunted Mansion?

concept art is not always accurate. But if I had to guess, this will take up the lower river and bottom of TSI to where the barrel bridge is currently.

that is where the river edges are narrowest between BTM and Haunted Mansion.

The path will probably connect to BTM dead end and Villains land will be north of that and prob a 1 way in/out like Pandora is in AK. (Yes I know there is a back exit to Africa, but few people really use it)

Not sure where to put this.

Disney argues man can't sue over wife's fatal allergic reaction because he signed up for a Disney+ trial
Disney is asking a court to dismiss the lawsuit involving a New York doctor whose family claims she had a fatal allergic reaction after eating at Disney World.

NEW YORK — Does signing up for Disney's popular streaming service mean you have agreed to never sue the entertainment giant over anything forever?

That is what Disney argues in a wrongful death lawsuit involving a 42-year-old New York doctor whose family claims had a fatal allergic reaction after eating at an Irish pub in Disney Springs in October.

Disney is asking a Florida court to dismiss a lawsuit brought by Jeffrey Piccolo, the husband of Kanokporn Tangsuan, a family medicine specialist with NYU Langone’s office in Carle Place, on Long Island.

The company argues Piccolo had agreed to settle any lawsuits against Disney out of court through the arbitration process when he signed up for a one-month trial of Disney+ in 2019 and acknowledged that he had reviewed the fine print.

“The Terms of Use, which were provided with the Subscriber Agreement, include a binding arbitration clause," the company wrote in its motion. “The first page of the Subscriber Agreement states, in all capital letters, that ‘any dispute between You and Us, Except for Small Claims, is subject to a class action waiver and must be resolved by individual binding arbitration’.”

But Piccolo's lawyer, in a response filed earlier this month, argued that it was “absurd” to believe that the more than 150 million subscribers to Disney+ have waived all rights to sue the company and its affiliates in perpetuity — even if their case has nothing to do with the popular streaming service.

“The notion that terms agreed to by a consumer when creating a Disney+ free trial account would forever bar that consumer’s right to a jury trial in any dispute with any Disney affiliate or subsidiary, is so outrageously unreasonable and unfair as to shock the judicial conscience, and this court should not enforce such an agreement,” Brian Denney, Piccolo’s attorney, wrote in the Aug. 2 filing.

Spokespersons for the Walt Disney Company and Raglan Road, the pub in Disney Springs where Tangsuan dined, didn't immediately respond to emails seeking comment Wednesday.

But Disney, in its May 31 filing, argued that whether Piccolo actually reviewed the service terms is “immaterial." It also noted the arbitration provision “covers ‘all disputes’ including ‘disputes involving The Walt Disney Company or its affiliates’.”

Arbitration allows people to settle disputes without going to court and generally involves a neutral arbitrator who reviews arguments and evidence before making a binding decision, or award.

Piccolo's lawsuit, which was filed in February, claims that he, his wife and his mother ate at the Raglan Road Irish Pub in Disney Springs, an outdoor shopping, dining and entertainment complex at Disney World, on Oct. 5, 2023.

After informing their server numerous times that she had a severe allergy to nuts and dairy products and required “allergen-free food," Tangsuan ordered the vegan fritter, scallops, onion rings and a vegan shepherd’s pie.

The waiter then “guaranteed” that the food was allergen-free even though some of the items were not served with “allergen free flags," the lawsuit states.

About 45 minutes after finishing their dinner, Tangsuan had difficulty breathing while out shopping, collapsed and eventually died at the hospital, despite self-administering an EpiPen during the allergic reaction, according to the lawsuit.

A medical examiner’s investigation determined later she died as a result of “anaphylaxis due to elevated levels of dairy and nut in her system,” the lawsuit said.

An Oct. 2 hearing has been scheduled on Disney's motion in county court in Orlando. Piccolo seeks more than $50,000 in his lawsuit.

I remember this lawsuit. It happened at Raglan Road I think. The lady told the waiter about her allergies but he neglected to tell the chef. The woman died
The thing that makes this story's aftermath so terrible is that the husband only sued for 50k. Basically for the funeral plus a little extra. You would think it costs Disney more to fight the lawsuit.

I got to start thinking about this for next year.

I must be getting old though because I am not really looking forward to it. More like willing to suffer through it for the kids.

Was at Disney Springs last Friday. It was pretty dead for Disney standards. I know there was some drama at the MK, but no way would it keep crowds away over Labor Day weekend.

I have a buddy that was at MK when that junk happened. He said no one in their right mind would have thought that was a firearm going off.

My daughter was at the Springs also last Friday and went to MK on Saturday. When I asked her if she was paying for Lightning Lane and she said no, I thought she was nuts, with it being the Saturday of a holiday weekend. But she said surprisingly the lines weren't too bad for rides, with a couple exceptions.

This is a long shot....but if anyone is interested in staying in a DVC resort before oct 1....

I have 200 DVC points available that are expiring Oct 1 (I can't bank into the next year). Willing to sell for a low price. Availability may be limited, I'll check what rooms/resorts are available if you are interested.

Shoot me a PM if interested. Thanks.

Will actually be on property for the 1st time in a while.

In a fortunate event of timing, I have to go to West Palm for training on my new business until the 27th. The end of it coincides with an entrepreneur conference I use to attend at Disney Springs. A few friends I have not seen in a while are attending the conference. So I'm hopping the Bright-line up to Orlando and grabbed a DVC room at Saratoga for the night. Figure we would do Disney Springs for dinner and drinks.

My flight out on Saturday isn't until 2 pm so booked a nice breakfast over at Boma in the Animal Kingdom Lodge, and have some time to stroll the grounds there. I wont have time to visit a park or anything like that, but I'm looking froward to spending a short time back in the bubble to decompress after a very busy summer.

I was in the same spot this year, we have the same use year. Where is your home resort?

I've rented points here but I know your time is short. Have you tried Davids and the DVC Rental Store? You can post your points there for no charge. I did it earlier in the summer and rented all of them pretty quickly. You might have to discount them a bit but its better then losing them.

Good luck.

We've had Oct use year contracts at AKL and BWV for some time now. Just added another BWV and might sell the AKL, not sure yet.
It's that new BWV contract that came with a bunch of expiring points.

I've rented out our points in the past through David's...but never tried to do it this last minute. I tried David's, but ultimately I ended up getting rid of them via the DVC Rental Store. Guess they post last minute deals on facebook? I grabbed a bunch of 1 or 2-night studio reservations, priced them at $10pp (my take), and they went within 24 hours. Was surprised.

It is stunning to me that the value of these contracts on the resale market has actually grown. I can sell off our original 2 contracts for a higher price per point than when we bought them...even though there are less years remaining.

If I had known that at the time would have bought a bunch more!

@Fruitbat good stuff. We own at OKW (230pts), a resale purchase, and I just took a look at the values today....wow. I can sell mine for around $100 pp and we picked them up for $55 about 10 or 12 years ago.

We thought about selling it a few times, now that the kids are older and we do other vacations, but it has helped a ton. When she was 16, m daughter got invited on a trip there with friends, so we were able to grab a room just to be there if needed. I'm grabbing a room for 1 night for a conference. Same daughter is going back in January with her college dance team to compete, so we grabbed a room for that easily. Plus I'm looking forward to a few mid-season trips once my wife retires from teaching in a few years.

TBH I think the cost of a direct contract is crazy expensive. IDK if I would buy if I was to do it all over again with today's prices. I think Disney has severely oversaturated the DVC market with new resorts and its making it very hard to get the rooms you want.

yeah, we have occasionally peeked at making a small direct purchase (wife is swayed by the extra perks), but its WAY too expensive.

Our purchase isn't as long ago as yours...we bought in 2017. $98pp for 200pts at BWV, and $80pp for 160pts at AKL. Looks like BWV sells around low $100s, so hasn't gone up too much. But AKL is around $100pp now. Even with 7 less years left. So basically I could sell them both, probably break about even on the original investment (accounting for inflation)...and I had 7 years of resort stays for just the annual fees.

We will be empty nesters next year, but plan to keep at least our 2 BWV contracts (400 pts total). TBD on our 160 at AKL. We will have more flexibility schedule-wise, other family members can use...and I've never had an issue renting out points if i want to.

Now, the price to get in the parks on the other hand...not to mention Genie....ugh.

Well it finally happened. Disney is now testing their answer to UO's Express Pass. If you are unfamiliar, UO offers their Express pass which allows you unlimited front of the line access to almost every attraction, without having to reserve or book anything beforehand. You literally walk up, scan your badge and ride. The cost is high ($200+ pp), but the perk id free for anyone staying at one of their 3 deluxe resorts, which made it a great benefit and no-brainer IMO.

Disney has just released their version of this, the new Lightening Lane Premier Pass will debut at WDW on 10/30 (to only guests staying at a deluxe resort) and DL on 10/23.
Lightning Lane Premier Pass will be offered in very limited quantities and will give guests one-time entry to each available Lightning Lane entrance in the theme park they are visiting that day. This includes attractions included in both Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Single Pass, but with Lightning Lane Premier Pass, guests do not need to select an experience time. Lightning Lane Premier Pass will be a premium offering, and prices will vary based on the date and theme park guests are visiting.

for WDW:
Prices for Lightning Lane Premier Passes vary by date and theme park. At launch, prices will range from $129 to $449 (per pass, plus tax), with the highest prices falling on a limited number of days over peak travel periods:

  • Magic Kingdom: $329 to $449 per person, plus tax
  • EPCOT: $169 to $249 per person, plus tax
  • Disney’s Hollywood Studios: $269 to $349 per person, plus tax
  • Disney’s Animal Kingdom: $129 to $199 per person, plus tax

For DL:
Lightning Lane Premier Pass will be priced at $400 per person, per day for park visits through December 31, 2024. Beginning in 2025, pricing will vary by date and demand within a $300 to $400 range.

I love the ease of use at OU but mainly b/c it is a free perk when we stay there. I cant see myself dropping $500 > $1600 extra for a family of 4 for 1 day of my vacation.

thoughts?

At those prices, not being able to park hop with it is ridiculous.

I guess this is for the quite rich folks who don't want to deal with scheduling multipass times on their phone, but aren't quite super duper rich enough to afford the private VIP tour that skips lines.

I don't mind scheduling LL times (I actually find it kind of fun, like a puzzle of sorts) so not worth the extensive extra cost for me.

I believe it's already only for people staying in deluxe resorts which are crazy expensive themselves, so other than a few deal hunters that scored a good find we're talking mostly about people ready to blow insane gobs of money anyway.

Those prices are in addition to the cost of staying at a deluxe resort at WDW? If so, no thanks. Are they available to anyone at DL or do you have to stay at the Grand Californian there?

Is there any fallout at the parks from the hurricanes? Is everything up and running?
Side question for the rest of the state, how are the touristy beaches these days? For example Cocoa beach had a big pier, is it still there?

We were looking at going maybe in April, but still figured I'd ask. I feel kinda bad even asking considering what people went through, but the wife keeps asking me to find out.

Hurricanes were a complete non-issue in Orlando for the most part. Definitely didn't affect Disney at all.

I'm not sure about the coasts.

Scooter guy tried to fit his scooter between me and the people walking next to me in the Mexico area. Scooter would not fit itself, let alone also fit the 750 pound orca cousin driving it.

He hit my metallic yeti. Did not apologize. Did not acknowledge he was Scooter scum. Just stopped, looked at me, and then moved himself slowly away.

I know that the men standing around me watching this really did not want to be me, and the women did not want me to bed them....but in the moment, it felt possible.

Anyway, I'm at EPCOT.

So the tantrum by a kid in Star Wars land is a few rings above the other normal disney tantrums. Some of these are broadway level epic.

Yup, Studios day.

I saw a bad one on the bus when we went about 10 years ago. Kid was flipping out and grandma was holding him while this whale of a mother was playing on her phone. The kid reared back and gave a headbutt to the bridge of grandma's nose that would make a wwe wrestler envious. Blood everywhere and mom was still oblivious even as grandma reflexively drops the kid. Grandma is bleeding everywhere and mom is yelling at her because she dropped the kid.

I believe it.

I know I'm old now, but I don't get the "allow your kids to be feral," in public and abandon all rules kind of parenting that happens here a lot.

Though, I understand over stimulation so, again, I'm old and I get it. Meanwhile, I once again hate all men that don't give up their seat on a crowded bus with women holding kids standing up. It's not that hard to be kind.

HUGE Studios News......

We knew from D23 that a Monsters Inc land was coming to Studios.....but no one knew where. Speculation was 1 of 2 places—In the old animation building, currently the Star Wars Launch Bay, or replacing MuppetVision3d

Well today we got our answer....with a twist.

Disney is saying Wakka-Wakka to MuppetVision3d and hello to a new Monsters show and the door coaster previously announced. Buuuuuut......

The Muppets are not leaving Studios, only moving down the block and will be replacing Aerosmith at Rockin Roller Coaster.

Now thats a twist I didnt see coming

This news is worthy of blowing the dust off this thread.

The Disney Company has just announced plans to build a brand new theme park in......Abu Dhabi.

This news brought me back to the FFA for the first time in a long time.

Not really sure how to react. I couldn't care less where Disney builds parks. But this seems like it will ruffle a lot of feathers of a certain community that really feels a ton of love from all things Disney. This just seems like a bad look from Disney.

Same, the dust on this thread was thick, it def has been a while
And on the flip side, how Middle Eastern culture will interpert those Disney stories for this park where inclusion and same sex relationships were a strong storyline.

Good point, but are they allowing it there? I truly have not even read the article or anything.

Unfortunately, I feel like we're still a long way from going to Disney again.

We stayed at Old Key West on our trip. Have been listening to some podcasts/videos on the whole DVC space. Pretty interesting. It seems like the direct benefits are nice but could go away at any time.
