Did my fast passes for my Dec trip and was able to get everything I wanted pretty easily.....except the Mine Train. Shocked it's still so hard to get FP for it so many years after it opened.

We go pretty often and I don't think the posted wait time has ever been close to correct. I wouldn't sweat it. It's typically a 45-60 minute wait regardless of what the app says.

If you can get there 30 min before opening and go to the Mine Train first you shouldn't have more than a 10 minute wait. Last year we didn't have a FP so I booked breakfast at the Beast's castle for 8:15 (9:00 MK opening). After breakfast they let us get in line and we walked on without any wait at all.

It used to be a tried and true strategy for any E-ticket ride/attraction but with the new FP system I've had mixed results. All things being equal it's still the best strategy for a ride you don't have FP for and want to ride.
Your strategy is even better and you get to enter the park early and get to eat at BOG - we've done that and it works well.

My daughter and I went last year (first week of September) and it was not so bad. Most rides were walk ons except Mine Train and it wasn't hard to get good spots for the parades and shows. Probably gets much worse as you hit October though.Godsbrother said:

@glvsav37 recommended one of those folks to me for our trip (flying out of Philly on Sunday-kids are literally bouncing off the walls) and he was friggin' great. Made every fastpass, ADR, coordinated tickets, hotel, pickup from airport, made recommendations for restaurants, and generally answered every question. Disney pays him, not us, so, well worth the price!

anyway, here are some recent news items:
Disney announces "Free Dining for Kids" for dates in 2020
The Enchanted Rose, a brand new Beauty and the Beast themed lounge just opened at the Grand Floridian and it is getting really great reviews
WDW is going all-in on plant based foods. They have released a full collection of vegan and plant-based foods throughout the parks.
Disney+, the new Disney focused streaming service is launching within a month. Here is the full list of movies and specials that will be available on day 1
Test Track will be closing for a short clean up (not a full refurb) from January 13th, 2020 to February 26, 2020. Nothing major is expected, but I assume its getting a good bath before Space Ship Earth closes down for its 2 year rehab.
Disney has shifted their preferred method for booking dining to the web site and app. For many they prefer to book through a phone agent, but like most businesses, Disney is trying to push people toward technology and away from actual people for time consuming tasks. While we don't know what 'prefered' means, I wonder if they will start to segment more availability to web or app bookings?
anyway, here are some recent news items:

They are 360 view videos where you can drop it into your VR headset and enjoy a quick escape into the parks in really high def quality. Even if you don't have a headset, the videos are still spectacular and a nice escape—esp given we are getting into the cold fall up here in the north east.

I'm thinking DIsney+ is going to save me some money. I used to never buy movies online, but my kids freaking love them now. I've shifted back to where I actually enjoy watching a movie now. Unfortunately I've been suckered into buying a digital copy of pretty much every marvel, disney and star wars movie that has come out in the last 4-5 years. Looks like pretty much everything I need will be on this.

Quick note since Disney+ has been mentioned in last few posts
I plan on waiting until launch day to purchase it. They have a bundle plan that includes Hulu and ESPN+ for 12.99 a month. Since I dont already subscribe to Hulu, this seems like a no brainer for me.

We went to the Halloween party last Friday and I thought the crowd was pretty light. Maybe just depends on the whether you go in Aug or Oct (maybe Fri vs Sat night). Regardless...
We thought it was pretty awesome overall. Disney does a great job decorating, trick/treat stations, etc. To be expected I guess. I would recommend the Halloween party to anyone.
If you're there for just the party, you can enter at 4pm, which is what we did. The non-party people have to exit at 6pm. We hit a few rides that we had set up FP for and a few other rides for the little one with barely any wait time. Then around 6pm, we headed over to Splash Mountain. Got on in less than 10 min. Then went right over to Toy Story, again got on pretty much immediately. No FP at all. When the park turns over, the lines were golden.
Around 8pm we headed over to check out the Jack S. meet/greet line at the front of the park....which turned out to be about a hour. My 4 yr old really wanted to see him (he was in his Jack S. Halloween outfit), so the wife did that with him while the older son and I held down a curb on Main Street for the parade which started at 9:10. We probably secured our spot around 8:15-8:30 and there was plenty of curb still available to my surprise. By parade time it filled in, but nothing like I remember during previous Disney visits for the regular parade. They made it back just in time to see the headless horseman come down Main Street. Parade was excellent, I love how the villains are featured.
After that, we just worked our way over closer to the castle to watch the fireworks/castle, which I thought was amazing and I'm not fireworks guy. Post fireworks, the lines were short all over the park. I basically took the 4 yr old on whatever he wanted to go on (spooky People Mover, race cars, Dumbo again, we lucked into meeting Goofy by Barnstormer with a short line, etc) while the wife did roller coasters with older son (they did have some 20-30 min waits for the 7 Dwarfs and Space Mountain, but we figured the older crowd would populate those rides late night while alot of the families with younger kids would leave). Somehow the little guy made it to midnight and he had a blast. Halloween is his favorite holiday by far.

According to the email I got a week or so ago, yes, you’ll need something other than firestick/tv to get the app. There was some vague language about continuing to work toward more access points, but nothing specifically about Amazon. I plan on getting a roku

honestly i'm looking forward to the special and non-movie programming. Apparently they have The Rock doing a show about behind the scenes and stories of attractions. And they are doing a cast member documentary series. I doubt you'll get the 'our CMs are living in squalor' slant that some recent documentaries have shown, but it should be an enjoyable watch.

Did Disneyland/DCA over the long weekend and have a few observations.
1. DCA on Saturday was a complete and total #### show. I've never seen a Disney property in such disarray. They weren't letting people into the Pizza/Pasta food court due to "capacity issues" so everyone just walked down a bit and went in the exit door, us included. Went right back out because the lines were crazy and it was filthy in there. No ice in any soda machines but there was plenty all over the counter and floor. Cups were strewn about all over the place. The floor was sticky with soda. The bathroom near Soarin' was the same. Two sinks were clogged with brown standing water in them. Garbage cans were full. No paper towels. Rides were also breaking down like crazy. Incredicoaster was up for maybe two hours, and we had to leave the Midway Mania line twice due to breakdowns.
2. At the end of the night, when kids understandably crash and fall asleep, why do some parents insist on sticking around waiting in line for rides? When your kid crashes, isn't that a good sign to call it a night? They don't enjoy being woken up once on the ride, and I'm sure you're not enjoying dealing with the tired crankiness, and I guarantee you I'm not enjoying riding through Pirates with a kid crying the whole time.
3. Galaxy's Edge was just ok. The land itself is super immersive and well designed, but the sole ride was so so. I had high hopes for the Millennium Falcon ride after riding Pandora at AK and seeing how ride technology has advanced. I mean it was ok, but I think I prefer Star Tours. Having to push buttons like it's a video game was annoying and took away from the experience. That said, the queue and being on the ####### Millennium Falcon was very cool and immersive. I did not do the $200/$100 lightsaber/droid thing.

Damn @Scoresman I'm not that familiar with DCA, but your first paragraph doesn't seem like Disney at all.
I've yet to hear anything about SW's that makes me wanna head down now. What I miss most about Disney at the moment is just hanging out in Pandora/AK. We had 2 or 3 really fun nights where we ran around the park and ended up in Pandora just before sunset. The wife and I just sat on a bench listening to drums and had a few drinks while the kids ran around banging drums and what not.

Thats why it was so noticeable. They were overwhelmed by the crowds. I asked a staff member and she said they were 10,000 over what they estimated. The staff that were there looked stressed and stretched thin. I dont know how they could underestimate that badly for the first holiday weekend after the halloween stuff went up.
And I feel like visually, Galaxy's Edge is just as if not more impressive than Pandora. It just doesn't have the ridiculously good ride to back it up.
Blue Milk wasn't bad either. They definitely put more effort into it than just making it a blueberry smoothie.

Sorry Mickey I’m not playing this game anymore. Going to SeaWorld in Saturday and I’m buying a one day hopper pass for Sunday even though its cost prohibitive on a $$ per day basis. I’ll be finding somewhere else to take the family in February and spend the $1500 or so elsewhere.

We've been out for years now, but will probably give in within the next year or two for the obligatory trip while our kids are young. I'd prefer to not have to take a second mortgage for a vacation, DW is crazy expensive with 5 kids.
Yet, friends of ours go 4 or 5 times each year.

It’s worth about $8/mo for just disney+ subscription. They are bundling it with espn+ and Hulu for about $13/mo (I think). I already have Hulu and don’t care about Espn, so I just went with the base subscription. They were offering a deal to Disney Visa card holders that I jumped on.
as for how much I’ll use it? Idk? I don’t watch much TV or movies as it is, but knowing that this will eventually become the ONLY place you’ll be able to watch Disney movies makes it a must have if you have kids IMO.
If they keep up with serving original content like the imagineering story and other “behind the curtain” type stuff, then I’ll def use it more.
one thing I heard is that unlike Netflix, they will not be releasing show eplisiodes in batches, but releasing them on a regular weekly schedule.

Here's the thing - I can justify going 4-5 times in a year versus just once. If you get an annual pass and stay off property you can make each trip fairly reasonable and in line with other trips. If you just go once and stay on property and with the dining plan then it is a pretty crazy amount of money.Hopefully more people agree with this and they change things.

They might have an annual pass, we haven't asked. $1200 is still more than I'd pay per person but it does look better that way, if you just do Airbnb or something like that. I don't think that's what they do, but it works better. That's still low 5 figures for my family each year. You make a good point though, I can actually see how that could work.
