Disposing of large household/yard items. (1 Viewer)

Google is failing me, or I am failing Google.

I have an air hockey table that is a little beat up but working, and a jungle gym thing in the backyard I need to get rid of. Goodwill and the like apparently don't take these large items.

Is the dump my only option? I'm not sure anyone would be interested on craigslist.

Any help appreciated as always.

I always leave stuff at the curb and just post to craiglist saying free items for first come first serve

Usually works. I am very lucky. My garbage men take EVERYTHING

I once knocked down an 18'x10' wood shed and cut it into somewhat manageable pieces and they took everything. Even the shingled roof sections

Unless you live in a wealthy neighborhood without much traffic, leave the air hockey table by the curb with a sign saying "Free to any takers! Still works!". It will be gone within a few days.

If the jungle gym is big, someone will want it on craigslist. If it's small, put it out with the air hockey table.

Luckily our garbage men take just about anything. We have those trucks with the automatic arms that grab and lift the cans but they have a truck that runs the neighborhood after that looking for large items.

Anything that has metal on it is gone in 3 seconds from the scrappers. I once threw out a grill. By the time i walked upstairs and went to the bathroom it was gone when I got back. Probably under 5 minutes.

Agree....the air hockey table would be gone within hours around here.

As for the jungle gym....how big is it? If its in good condition, post on CL as others have said and someone will grab it. If not, can you take a saw to it and cut it into smaller manageable pieces? then leave a few out every garbage pick up day? It may take a bit longer, but it'll be gone eventually. Our garbage guys have a bulk day every few weeks.

Take some of it to your work dumpster too if you can.

Call your local town office. We have a landfill site a few miles away where residential dumping is free every Saturday up to a certain weight.

When I have something like that I take it to the dumpster at the apartment complex my kid & I got thrown out of after I separated and before I got divorced.

I tried to sell a large wooden, jungle gym/swing set with no takers. I then tried to give it away and still no takers. Eventually I just broke it down and hauled it to the dump. The air hockey table however - leave it on the curb and someone may take it for you. Whenever we have large items like that we no longer want/need, we put them down on the curb around trash day and it never fails that some locals will swing by and take it before the trash guys get is. Apparently I live near hoarders.

As others have said, put the table in front with a free sign. I would be amazed if it last 4 hours if your street gets any type of traffic. We put a dresser out a few month ago, I barely got in the house and someone was already taking it,.

You could leave the jungle gym on some one's front year with a bow on it.

True story, my neighbor woke up to a huge swing set in his front yard. Apparently the renters a few houses down just decided to give him a "gift" in the middle of the night as they were moving out.

also, call a few local churches....see if they know of a family that could use the set but not afford one.
