I'm more pro-Snowden than Assange.  Snowden's releases were more about an internal system of corruption and illegality and he tried to do it through the US media first. He ended up exposing not only what the government was doing, but how the media was actively running interference for them.  

Assange dumped a lot of information that people's lives in jeopardy.  Much of which really didn't serve any other purpose.

That's based on their initial actions though.  I don't think Snowden had any desire to be a Russian play toy, but circumstances didn't present him with a lot of options.  He's obviously compromised now.

Assange published hacked emails, Stone spoke with Assange, Stone is a friend of Trump, therefore Trump is part of a crime. That seems like quite a stretch.  Even leaping from Assange to Stone is quite a reach given Stone's statements.  Maybe this is something the FBI will look into, but there certainly isn't anything here intimating they are part of a crime.

- Who is a mutual acquaintance between Stone and Assange? Hypothetically, if true, this is a crime and if Stone has real information on it then he needs to inform the authorities or else he himself becomes an after the fact accessory to letting it happen.

- Like other things with WL recently they often claim credit for things that were already released, and sometimes they weren't even leaked. The State Department is getting ready to release - via Foia - Hillary's deleted emails which were recovered by the FBI. To that extent WL could just take that tranche, upload and voila! they claim they have leaked Hillary's deleted emails. That's one possibility.

Still looking for a link, but apparently this batch includes a document that shows how the DNC can "update" state voter records directly without th voters knowledge or consent. This might explain why so many Bernie supporters claimed they were incorrectly removed from being registered as a democrat in the primaries...

Yeah, I still have not seen the actual document - but this is the summary on Reddit:

One document specifies how the state swap program is run. Basically, this allows a DNC API to exchange and update data between states' voter rolls twice a year!

This is how purges happen, this is how voters are targeted and registrations switched, or voters made invalid due to any number of changes by this automated system. This is how Bernie Sanders voters got removed from voter rolls and party affiliations switched. Excerpt from the document:

Swap Summary
After this agreement is negotiated with the ASDC, it is a contract between the DNC and individual states. The DNC is not bound by it in any state that does not sign.
Definitions
• Public Data- Data from government agencies and all other data included in the voter file that does not constitute Proprietary Data.
• DNC Proprietary Data- Data appended or acquired by the DNC, including appended enhancements such as consumer information, political IDs, and models.
• State Party Proprietary Data- Data appended to the public record by the state party or campaigns and organizations in the state.

Data being swapped
State Party Provides:
• State Party Voter File
• Any State Party Proprietary Data collected.
DNC Provides:
• Phone and NCOA matches;
• DNC Proprietary Data relating to registered voters in that state;
• Modeling created or attained by the DNC for that State and appended to records of voters in that state, accompanied by an explanation of the purpose and effectiveness of the model;
• Training of State Party personnel in the use of the above information;
• All information collected or obtained by the DNC concerning partisan or Democratic candidate ID’s in State Party’s state, including information on all persons who have moved into State Party’s state.
• The DNC will maintain and give the State Party access to VoteBuilder, the national Voter Activation Network online platform

Frequency of Swap
This exchange shall take place 2 times each year, and will include this information for an additional new registrant update each year.

Basically, the DNC voting software is not just a database, it is a hydra of servers that update voter information and can pass updated information at the state level with a short explanation (such as voter moved, re-registered, etc.) even when those events didn't really happen

After reading through it - I am not sure the conclusion reached is accurate - seems like this is more a data sync between the DNC and the various state democratic parties.

ThreatConnect Identifies DCLeaks As Another Russian-backed Influence Outlet


Over the last month and a half, ThreatConnect has authored a number of blog posts pulling at strands of a nebulous Russian spiderweb of malicious infrastructure – one data point at a time.  Along the way, we’ve built off of the work other researchers have done and have engaged with a handful of journalists who are eager to get to the bottom of the story. We assess the Guccifer 2.0 persona that surfaced after the DNC breach was announced in June is a Russian creation to maximize the impact of strategic leaks.

But it looks like we missed something called DCLeaks, another outlet for leaked material.  We believe DCLeaks is another Russian-backed influence outlet based on the following:

  • Guccifer 2.0’s use of DCLeaks to share purloined emails from a Hillary Clinton campaign staffer with journalists
  • DCLeaks hosting a portfolio of leaked emails belonging to Billy Rinehart Jr. — a  former development manager at the United Nations Foundation and regional field director for the DNC — whose email account was breached in the same manner as a known FANCY BEAR attack method
  • DCLeaks’ registration and hosting information aligns with other FANCY BEAR activities and known tactics, techniques, and procedures

All the folks I checked were Obama/DNC supporters and were appointed Obama and confirmed by the Senate.

Wikileaks has proven to be pretty credible so far.  The last release led to several resignations at the DNC.  That's kind of a big deal.

Unproven != False. It's a "we need to see more data" classification before Snopes will conclude True or False, which is why I worded my post above as such. I wouldn't run with a Twitter post from Assange blindly, thinking it would be bold/stupid for Assange to come out that strong and be patently false on a quote before a "big reveal" of a data leak that could then be smeared even if it was true.

This feels like the politics version of the Dwayne Washington thread where people are bailing after an ankle sprain where he might play in Week 5. Stay tuned for more details.

Nobody should read snopes, especially for political topics. They committed credibility suicide when they hired Kim lacapria. A magic eight ball would be more accurate.
