Do NFL Coaches hold college Grudges? (1 Viewer)

Just wondering would a Coach like say Kubiak not draft a player from Texas? Say A. ross and another CB that is very comparable are available to be drafted. Would the difference maker be what school they came from?

would a coach from Michigan draft a player from Ohio State or vice versa?

Just curious.

If you were a head coach and the best player available was from a hated rival school would you draft him?

I went to Sam Houston State University so I dont apply to this question. But I would take the better player personally.

I would hope that anyone hired as a headcoach would be insulted by the accusation. Coaches are in the business of winning football games, not supporting their alma matas. If a guy has been in the business long enough he has coached with players from rival schools and against those who are from his own.

Any coach that would allow something like that to affect his judgment isn't going to be around long. I do see fantasy football owners doing this (not drafting a player from a team they dislike or overvaluing their favorite teams players) but that is a whole different issue. They tend to fall prey to the sharks every year.

That being said do you think that the Texans seem to shy away from UT players. Although our draft was very good last year. There were a few players I think they could have gotten late that would have been very nice for this team. Thats the reason I was bringing this question up just wondering why it seems that way.Players from UT that could have been had by us last year:Obviously Vince.Rodrique Wright (guy slid to the 7th round and was once touted as a 1st rounder the year before)Jonathan Scott (although I was surprisingly pleased with Spencer I thought Scott was a very good LT too.)and in past years although i know kubiak had nothing to do with this but guys like vasher could have been had in the 3rd when we have nothin on the other side of Robinson.like I said just curious.

No... notice both Scott and Wright were thought of a first day guys and both fell until late in the draft. Every other NFL team let them fall also. In this case, this was not just a Houston Texans issue, but a popular misconception of the overall skill issue. ..As much as like the Longhorns program (used live Austin non UT related), their players tend to be overrated by non-NFL people. Texans fans need to look no further than up I-45 and notice the lack of Texas college players that the Cowboys have had historically. Anyone thinking the Texans ignore UT players intentionally is living in a burnt orange fantasy world.

I agree but IMO R. Wright (who I agree fell considerably from his junior year) in the 6th since he went right before us in the 7th would have been a better pick than Lundy who I think was no better than an Undrafted rookie like say Chris Taylor. And a DT would have more value if he gets into the rotation than a rb IMO. Wright had a Shoulder injury that Miami chose to let him have surgery to repair other than play him like that so we wouldn't know whether he could play at the NFL level yet.And for the record I like all of the Texas colleges so I have no prefence as I would have liked them to have taken a late flier on R. McNeal too.
