Do you always go with FBG trade values? (1 Viewer)

This is not ACF. This is a question about the Top 250 Forward.

I think someone has proposed me a good trade.

I give Portis Watson and Moss

for E James Boldin and A Gates

the trade value on my 3 is around 2700 and his are 2400, though I am thinking about taking the trade.

Edge's value can't get any lower, Portis's cant get any higher. Moss is going to suck.

I feel like I am on the good end of this one, but the trade values say that he is.

Do you always go with FBGs trade values in the Top 250 forward, or do you take into account your own personal situations?

No one has had an internal conflict with the Top 250 forward? Does it take into account "buy low" principles? For example, I think Edge and Boldin will be valuable this week, horrible next week, then better after the bye week. Gates has to bounce back. Portis has nowhere to go but down. Am I completely flawed in my thinking here? I pay for the premium service and want to use it wisely....Joe or David or Jeff, I would appreciate your input on whether this is a tool we should use always.

I am a staff member, and

Not even close - I use my personal projections of hoiw I think the player will do more than I use David's.

I've said this before, using those numbers as trade value is fallacy. First, they are predicated on your league being the same roster size, starters, and scoring system as the FBG defaults. If you are in larger or smaller leagues, the values could vary greatly. If you have PPR, the values change. If you have deeper or shorter benches the values could be drastically different. If you start 2 QBs, or only require 1 RB, etc. then all bets are off.

Then, they are somewhat based on an even distribution of talent on each team. If you have a critical shortage at one position, you will value even marginal players at that position highly. If you have good players at a position that languish on your bench because you have equal or better players at the same position, you may not feel the need to get "full value" for them because getting something that makes your lineup better or fills that urgent need is better than getting nothing because you wouldn't back down from some artificial set of numbers proclaiming that player's value.

And finally, different people value player's differently. You may think player X will be the Next Great Thing, or may have a killer playoff schedule that you think is underrepresented in the value rankings, or you may think player-x is too injury-prone for your liking. Or you may like another guy because he's nothing flashy, but gives you steady points every week and that's what you want, etc.

Those values give you an idea of what one person on the staff thinks players are worth under one set of leaugue rules and conditions. Actual performance may vary.

You used "blindly", so this should not receive any "yes" replies.

I might use it as a guide, might use it to attempt to explain to the guy getting pissy at what he thinks is a bad offer, that it is pretty fair, but you can't use anything blindly.

I think getting FBG or outside rankings or opinions is very helpful in making trades (sometimes just talking about it with a FF knowledgeable friend is good). That said; why would you use someone else's valuations of players instead of making your own? Again, I like to consider multiple sources when looking at a player's value, sometimes others bring to light things I may have overlooked etc., but I ultimately make my own judgement call as to what I feel is a good trade for my team. FBG is great (and I say that as a non-subscriber), but I wouldn't exclusively rely on them or anyone for my team... bottom line is that its my team (for better or worse).

hey guys, thanks for the insights.

now that I think about it, I don't think it's a good trade anyway...so it turns out that maybe they WERE right in this case. But, not to be trusted blindly.
