Do you draft a kicker... (1 Viewer)

Kicking (pun intended) the idea around of not drafting a kicker and picking one up a day or 2 before the season starts. This will allow me to use the kicker spot as a "developmental" spot during the preseason.

If your league rules allow this does anyone else use this strategy?

yes i use this strategy....really depends on when you draft and how the draft is going....if I'm killing a draft I may actually take a guy like Gost early just to try and put the nail in the coffin.....

In my main money league I draft neither a kicker nor a defense. In the past 2 years, these are the players I got in the last 2 rounds, where I would have drafted a K or Def:

Tim Hightower

Eddie Royal

Brandon Marshall

Chris Brown (TEN RB)

3/4 giving my team significant help, and allowing until just before the first week's games to grab a K or Def also allowed me to better pick which guys I thought would pan out best (extra time for player evaluation)

Very good strategy if you plan on playing waivers for K/Def anyway

I usually draft a defense, but last year was the first time I didn't select a kicker. Our draft is nearly two full weeks before the season starts, so final cuts happen and you adjust your roster accordingly. I'd rather take a stab at depth and maybe hit on an emerging player rather than taking a kicker. I usually just take a guy who kicks indoors or has a big leg (bonus points in our league for FGs of 45+).

We're not required to draft a kicker so I didn't take one. I won't have one until after the last pre-season game, when I will be deciding on who to cut for the kicker...

My league doesn't allow free agent pick ups until after week 1, so we have to draft one. If I had the option of claiming a kicker off the waiver wire I'd certainly opt not to draft a kicker. I always us my final pick on my kicker.

In my one redraft league, I didn't - I drafted Robiskie with my last pick. Rather see how he (or some of my other late picks) pan out. I did grab a DEF earlier than I usually do, though, because I had to have the Jets.

I've always been required to draft one...but if I had that flexibility I would do exactly what you're describing.

The leagues I commish each team must start week 1 with who they drafted, isn't that the whole point of a "redraft" league? Waiver wire doesn't start until after week 1 is complete. That being said, I would do the same in a league where I could find a kicker after the draft before the season starts.

So which two players did you drop each of the past two years in order to get a D and K?

I think last year I dropped Hester and JaMarcus. Year before dropped Hester and Bobby Wade.

I never draft a kicker. I always pick one off of waivers prior to the first week's games instead. With a week or more of preseason games to be played, the value of having an extra RB who could either emerge as a viable option, or, take over for an injured stud, is greater than rostering a kicker for a week.

I also only look for kickers for 3 or 4-week stretches. Any more is a bonus, but, unless the guy is lighting the league on fire, I cut him for the next guy with a good string of matchups or a recent hot streak.

I don't draft Kicker or Def. I plan on playing he WW for both positions anyways and I too would rather pick a guy that could make a run for playing time before the preseason ends. Last two rounds this year, grabbed Sammy Morris and Mike Goodson.

Never know what could happen over the next two preseason games. But I do know there will be at least 20 kickers and Defenses left to pick from before week 1.

I just did this in my draft because we only have 6 bench spots. With a bench that small though it is hard to let go of a good player for a kicker....
