Spinoff of the poker thread.

I really hate the whole deal with the noise and the desperate looking people plugging the slots for hours, it gets to be depressing and I want to leave. I'm between 4 and 5 on the first question and I've played poker and slots.

There's an awful lot to be said for a good black jack run.

I've gona a few times. I would only go if it was a bachelor party or if there was some concert there I wanted to attend. I've never thought 'Gee I think it would be fun tongi to the casino.'

I absolutely HATE the smell of leather-faced people trying to make a big score with their last dollar, yet I like to gamble. Since I don't have card games going in my house 24/7, the casino can't really be avoided.

if I'm in Vegas I'd rather be partying, but those are prob the only casinos I would frequent.

AC has turned into such a huge ####hole. I don't think I'd go anywhere outside of the Borgata there. Quite possible that within a decade or so, that becomes the biggest slum and most dangerous place in America.

I actually tell myself I should gamble on sports, the same way some guys say gee I need to cut down. I think I'd be good at it. I just, don't.

I jerk off a lot though.

Was just at the Trop for the weekend, it was awesome.

Not even close to the most dangerous place in America as long as Chester, PA is still standing.

Little in this world is better than the table going on a run at blackjack/craps in a game with a bunch of buddies.

Chester is a beach resort compared to Camden.

Quite a bunch of those casinos are facing severe financial distress. I'm not familiar with Chester, PA so I can't speak to it, but I could see AC completely collapsing over the next 10-20 years.

I used to be a partial season ticket holder of the Philadelphia Union for a few seasons. We would always park on the side neighborhood streets for free parking. I'm honestly not sure how I'm still alive.

Doesn't make it anywhere near the most dangerous place in America. Unless of course, you are unfamiliar with America.

Chester is fo sho ghetto, says this Detroit guy.

Point taken.

For the time being it's still a fairly bad place. If the casino industry collapses there, it gets much much much worse IMO... The casinos are trending in that direction as they face more and more competition from legalized gambling elsewhere.

They recently hired the Emergency Manager from Detroit to try and help turn things around; http://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/detroit/2015/01/22/kevyn-orr-atlantic-city/22169071/

Trop is still awesome. Met a Chinese chick who said five minutes in, "I know I am Chinese but these boobs are real."

And they were, they were.

Showboat and Revel closed, they are turning the Showboat into a college I guess and Revel is trying to be bought by some Malaysian dudes or something. Stupid casinos in Baltimore are killing AC, I hate it. Better in the old days when Vegas and AC were it, everything else sucks now IMO.

I'll be in Vegas in two weeks. I'll lay money down in as many as a dozen casinos. They are smoky and loud, and frequented by dead-eyed degenerates. In other words, my happy place.

Revel is literally going for pennies on the dollar. $2.5B to build and sold after bankruptcy for $100M or something like that 2 years later... Something just doesn't make sense - Pretty unreal!

Taj is also going bankrupt. I grew up in NJ and used to love going to AC. On the positive, maybe as the city slumps, the women get even easier.

She was from Phila, as is 50% of the crowd in AC. The other half is from Long Island, so I guess your theory is about as solid as quicksand.

New Jersey is terrible, welfare state if there ever was one.

I wasn't referring to you specifically... More so a city in decline, the women getting easier.

Anyways, NJ is an amazing state. If I could ever get my wife out of NYC, I'm on my way back in a heartbeat. Some of the best public school systems in the country and conveniently located to NYC. Unfortunately the taxes are ridiculously high when you are in the right locations.

Like any other state in the country, there are ####holes scattered around, but if you're in the right town, there isn't a better place to raise a family.

Wealthiest town in America; http://time.com/100987/richest-towns/

I'd rather live in Montclair than Short Hills, but a great place nonetheless.

The shoe where it all turns around makes the low almost so bad the high isn't worth it IMO.
I'd rather have loved and lost.

I've worked in a casino for 15 years, and I can't imagine a more depressing workplace. The lengths these people go to to convince themselves that they know what they are doing are amazing.

Listening to people at a baccarat table makes me weep for humanity. If I spoke Mandarin I'd probably shoot myself.

But Short Hills has a snobby mall!

The two casinos around Baltimore City are actually quite nice and fairly Vegas-lite.

I too enjoyed the jaunts to AC though. Was an odd feeling to emerge from a smokey, dark casino to hear the crash of waves and see a crowded beach.

I was in AC this past weekend too. Stayed at Borgata like usual. The place was jam packed. Borgata is not hurting at all. I like the party atmosphere but can do without the gambling. My wife plays slots and I play poker. I find poker boring now. I used to love it. Only casinos Id stay at in AC are Borgata, Harrahs for the Pool party, Trop, and maybe Golden Nugget (although Ive never been there).

Did some online casino-whoring when I was in college (ie when it was profitable) and can't get myself to play anymore without the constant thought that I losing .7% of my wager every hand. Will play the occasional Pai Gow (slower pace = more free drinks/hand) or Craps if I am loaded and with friends. Played acasino in Prague only because they offered Pontoon.

I like going but probably only go 1-2 times a year if that

I'm a sucker for roulette and like playing BJ...just don't have the patience to grind it out in the poker room though I'll play occasionally

Excluding Vegas, casino night with a bunch of dudes is better in theory than in practice, in my experience. I usually get bored within an hour but end up staying 6+ hours because a couple of friends get on a heater. I pretty much hate it.

I like craps/blackjack when I'm part of a pack, but going alone is like being at a strip club by yourself. Feels seedier and not as much fun.

Sports is a different story. If they allowed sports wagering at the Indian casinos I'd be total gambling degenerate Rob Lowe.

Only enjoy Vegas for the sports book scene.

I always drop money quick at table games and don't have the attention span or risk aversion to sit for hours and have fun playing cards.

We used to go multiple times a year and most of the time the room was comped or deep discount.

I enjoy gambling but with kids and such now the wife and I will go maybe a couple times a year. Another reason we don't go as often is we don't play High stakes anymore and it's tough finding lower tables now. I used to not care and play the higher tables. Now it's more of a pass the time.

I'll play roulette with the wife, I play blackjack. Really enjoy 3 card poker and flop poker.

even enjoy those horrible odds let it ride and Mississippi stud. Basically when we go we plan to lose a few hundred. If we win great.

I just read there is going to be a Proposal to allow resort style casinos in Miami, Tampa, & Jax. I'm not a huge gambler, but they provide a ton of jobs for local economies. The Seminole casino spends tons of money on advertising & seems to always be hiring.

Another positive of the proposed bill is they will be shutting down a bunch of crappy old dog tracks. Many just run the dogs to keep their card rooms & simulcast.

Vegas casinos aren't too bad. People are on vacation, they're happy, they're blowing money that they seem to be able to afford.

Midwestern casinos are depressing as hell. I haven't set foot in one in probably over a decade, but my recollection is that the clientele is mostly people really need to not be gambling.

LV and AC, yes. Everywhere else feels like a dog track with a ton of slot machines and one table each for a few games. For me it's more than just about gambling, I like the atmosphere meeting people that are in town to have a good time.

The hands down worst casino I've ever been to was in Carson City, NV - I wanted to hang myself within 5 minutes of walking in the door. The gamblers where weather beaten; the staff was depressing and rude - it really felt like the people working there were sending a message, "we don't want to be here and neither should you". Last straw was the only chick I met that I would halfway consider banging told me she drove a bus for elderly people and likes to come here on payday.

Bye Felicia

ETA: The best car I could get from the car rental place as a Kia Soul. #### that place.

The amount of smoking on the gaming floors that allow it gives me a migraine headache every time. Some casino's have smoke free sections and I believe Maryland Live is completely smoke free which is nice.

Otherwise, I enjoy playing craps, when someone shows up and calls for an ashtray next to me, I'm out.

The smoke literally makes me sick. Fortunately the poker rooms are typically smoke free. Even still, I always come away reeking of smoke. It's enough to keep me away from the table games.

Casinos are just meh to me but I love the Sportsbook on a football Saturday/Sunday, so much fun. I can only imagine the same for the NCAA tournament as well.

Used to hit Vegas two to three times a year. I've played everything except Pai Gow and Baccarat. Early on, I stayed at the Westward Ho and cut my teeth playing poker in the Stardust Poker room. This was before Chris Moneymaker taught everyone to play poker. Looking back, it was a bunch of degenerate locals, with a few degenerate vacationers sprinkled in for fresh money. There were no tournaments, just a lot of $1-3 limit games and maybe an Omaha or Stud game going at one table. But it was heaven to me.

I tried playing at the local casino, but it never felt the same. My work, my family, etc, were just a few miles away. It didn't feel like I was getting away from anything.

excessive hyperbole, but it's very enjoyable

Wouldn't want to be a regular but once twice a year love hitting the sportsbook. March Madness opening week and NFL Championship weekend are perfect for Vegas.

Love Craps but last few times playing watching my bets just get flushed off the table has felt different than it used to as I get a bit older. As posted earlier though it is so much fun when the table is hot.

Hate playing poker in a casino mostly because I feel like a piece of fresh meat dropped in a lion's cage.
