This forum needs more music critics.
So what does this mean? You don't like her?
It means that there is a very low bar here for what is considered "good" music. I have no opinion of her as I never hear her music. The only song I know is that insipid "party all the time" ripoff or whatever it was, and that song sucked in just about every way a song can suck (predictable, vapid, pointless, regurgitated, unoriginal, etc). Her one song that I know is the musical equivalent of a McDonald's hamburger: mass-produced crap for people who don't really care what goes into their ears.
So based on that one song, you've decided that anyone who likes her music has bad taste?
Anyone who likes that one song, IMO, has bad taste in music, yes. The other statement was in reference to many other posts I have seen lauding bands like Linkin Park, Evanescence, and a few others. Not exactly pitchfork around here.
so you've heard one song and feel qualified to judge? I'm fairly certain you like some sh###y music too.
Yes, since this is an INTERNET FORUM I feel qualified to express an opinion based on one song I have heard, since after hearing that one song I formed the opinion that I did not want to hear any other songs by that artist. Do you need to listen to "Saturday" in addition to "Friday" to have an opinion of Rebecca Black as a musician? Did you have to wait and here whatever Vanilla Ice's second single was before forming your opinion of him as a rapper?

Wait a second...Rebecca Black did a song called Saturday? Does it rock too?

Think of how many fewer problems there'd be if everyone's opinions were as well thought out and as clearly researched for facts as this one.
So I have to "fact-check" now in order to deliver an opinion, on an internet forum, before giving it to someone who asked for it? WTF? Since when are facts part of someone's opinion about music? Seriously what is your problem?
Your opinion was that people have no taste in music because of one song that you didn't even know the title to. It wasn't of the song itself.
I never said people have no taste. I said, at first, that this place needs more music critics. Tim asked me to expand and so I said there is a low bar around here for music. I then expressed that the one song of hers I have heard is, IMO, complete garbage.

Really getting tired of people jumping all over people who express any strong opinion. I suppose I should have said that while her music doesn't suit me, it is certainly applicable to the tastes of others?
You're getting tired of people jumping on you for jumping on other people?

Who was I jumping on? Just show me, in quotes, and I will shut up and leave this thread, exactly where I said "people have no taste" and where I attacked someone in this thread.

People who you think have set a low bar for taste in music based on your invented criteria of whether or not they like one Pink song that you can't name by name.

Is this the follow up to Van Halen "Jump" or House of Pain "Jump Around"?

Every bit as much as Friday. Sunday will be out soon.

Oh so I was jumping on completely unidentified people who set the bar low? So to you, and I want you to confirm this by replying, when I said "There is a low bar around here for music" I was engaging in some form of personal attack? Please confirm this is what you are saying.

The offending post everyone:

So it wasn't anyone specific that you were referring to. Just a strawman to prove...some sort of point?

Actually you said there is a low bar for good music here. That implies you think that the people who post here don't have as sophisticated musical taste as you. Which implies those people have bad to no taste in comparison to you.

She is fairly hot, she is edgy, her songs have more depth than most pop music, and she is reasonably grounded. Probably the best thing in pop music in the last 20 years, if that counts for anything.

Hey, hey. Back off man. No need to go all ballistic on the poor guy.

No F****** Sophisticated taste in music

Nope. Does't sound so bad motherf***** with sophisticated in it does it?

No, it wasn't anyone specific. And I wasn't trying to prove any point. I was, again, expressing an opinion on a topic started by someone asking for opinions on a certain artist. Since I didn't know much, I just said that we need more music critics around here. If you want to interpret that as a personal attack go ahead. Then I was asked why I said that, and asked if I liked her music.

Unclench. You can still have your fan club.

Oh I get it, you're saying that there needs to be more people around here who like the music you like to tell you what music you'll like.

In short, you're saying that this place needs more people who agree with you.

Sounds like a good plan.

Sounds like you are really offended that I don't like Pink. I don't. The one song I have heard sucks ###. I'm sorry that hurts your feelings. I'm sorry you really, really need people to always agree with each other. I'm sorry about whatever it is you are actually angry about. Is that enough apologies for one post saying I don't like Pink, in a thread asking people their opinion on Pink? Seriously, wanna set things straight.

Seriously, if Pink comes on the radio and you're like "hey turn that up" just gently steer the car into the oncoming traffic. Trust me on that.

No, I'm just wondering why you think we need more music critics because a couple people like an artist that performs a song that you don't like.

Ok would you like to discuss that like an adult or continue to take childish potshots with your friends?

This place generally isn't the demographic for her music, so it seems odd that there would be really strong opinions either way. Tim likes to stay current with what the tween girls are into so he knows what to play in his van, so that explains the thread.

I don't think she's especially hot. To me she kind of looks like Ivan Drago's wife from Rocky 4. Not really into that sort of thing...

I just think her music is catchy. And her latest album doesn't really sound like what one would expect of "pop" music. There are folky songs, rock songs, etc. And the melodies stay with you...

Apparently this is never going to get old for some of you, is it?

That's an interesting question. I will need to ponder that.

:coffee:

Nope. Unlikely to ever get old.

I'll take "Potshots" for $400, Alex.

"What is 'We need more music critics'."
The "we need more music critics in here" is a bizarre comment anyway. Music critics comment about the creativity of others when they have no creativity themselves. The last thing anyplace needs is more music critics....

MTV plays no music anymore, but like I said, the greatest music critic ever is way below the worst music artist you can think of. People are gonna remember Billy Joel. They won't remember the no talent ### clown who calls him "derivative"
