I need something in the morning.

Not always caffeine...though, that is the usual.

Diet Dr. Pepper...coffee...juice sometimes.

Can't go straight to water...my stomach seems to not like just water right away. Love the carbonation sometimes...but coffee and OJ (or choco milk) will get the job done too.

I drink a lot of coffee -- a pot every morning and usually another half a pot or so in the afternoon. Weirdly, though, I don't notice any particular ill effects if I don't get my normal fix. Today, for example, I only had one cup before church, and I feel perfectly normal.

Do not need it to start the day, but I pretty much need it at some point. During the week, drink about 10 oz at 9 and another 10 at 11. On the weekends, usually one 16 oz.

Used to be a lot more, like 40 oz per day, but I decided that I didn't want to be so dependent on it last year. Never had any problems sleeping, but would get withdrawals and a couple times I tried to go without for a day and got pretty sick. It's not very good for the adrenal system to do that much. Worked on cutting it back and should do more, but for now I am ok and I don't really get much in the way of withdrawal symptoms.

I would probably drink it all day ever day if I had my druthers, but just didn't like the heavy dependency.

30 ounces pressed between 6 and 9 every morning and that's it for the day. It's a ritual at this point but I don't notice anything different when I go without.

Absolutely. Caffeine dependency.
exactly.

funny- I have mine after I get to the office, so I have a couple of hours after I wake up where I don't "need" it. but then... ugh- forget it. If I have to run to a morning meeting and don't have one first, I"m a stabbing headache ball of misery.

Several cups of black coffee virtually every day since I've been 20 with the exception of a couple stretches when I tried to quit. I don't have much interest in trying to quit again. I don't smoke, infrequently drink alcohol, and watch my diet so I'll allow myself this one vice.
i really wouldnt call drinking black coffee a vice. It has very many benefits and few cons.
A lot of it can't be good for you though, right? I fall into a similar boat as jux. I forced myself to switch to black when I was 20ish because I was drinking too much of it.
Fwiw, lucho (crazy endurance dude) drinks 12 cups a day

One of my vices that I don't feel too bad about. I used a french press for years before discovering the Aeropress. As good as a french press is, this is even better. It cuts more of the bitter oils, creating a rich, but smooth cup. The only downside is you have to make it a cup at a time. That being said, it's much quicker than a french press, with much less clean up.

The older I get, the more I enjoy coffee. A cup or two of a strong brew is a must to start Major's day.

I'm not sure that I would call more than a few of you serious coffee drinkers.

I make a pot in the morning. I often drink 2 cups before showering, a couple more with breakfast, and take the rest with me in my car mug on way to work.

We will make 3 - 5 pots at work that is shared by about 5-6 of my co-workers.

I will often brew a pot when I get home about 5pm. I often take a cup of coffee to bed with me. Of course I only sleep about 5 hours a day.

do not need it, but love it. make a cap for the drive every morning. weekends, i will usually do a cap... then just an espresso a little later.

I almost never drink it. I don't hate it or thinks it's evil. There are just a lot of beverages that I prefer more.

I love coffee, but I guess I interpreted "NEED" a little more literal. On days I've skipped I'll have a minor headache, but I can survive the day.

Usually 2 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon. I take it black with a little honey.

Holy ####. I hope you're not a surgeon.

Is it weird that after 10 years of drinking it I still don't care for the taste of it? I've tried all different types. Nothing tastes great unless I add loads of sugar (which I'm unwilling to do on a regular basis). I like the smell and warmth of it more than anything.

Yea. Realized I had a dependency as I don't drink it on the weekend. Even if we are just doing BS around town by 2-3 I realize I'm tired.

I have a pretty nice grinder. Nothing like a French press but makes better joe than Starbucks. If I don't have time in the morning I'll just drink some diet soda swill. Spending 15 minutes waiting for a Starbucks is just a non-starter for me.

Between one and two big cups when I wake up, preferably already made. None the rest of the day. Yes, I need it. No, I've never considered quitting.

Yep. Any iced coffee drinkers out there? I'm also pretty serious about good coffee. Traveling can be tough on me because NO has a particular type of coffee, and it it's a struggle to find decent stuff on the road. Best coffee shop I found in Boston I went out of my for when I was up there and i built my morning schedule around it. Same thing everywhere from L.A. to Memphis to Providence to Paris. It's also a great way to learn a city, hunting around for good brew.
Yep. Make myself a travel mug of iced coffee every morning. Can't stand hot coffee.

Gave up caffeine 20 years ago, but even before that I never liked coffee. On the rare occasion I need a caffeine boost (maybe once a month), I'll have a Mt Dew.

I dont get the appeal of hot bitter water.

3-4 cups a day. Sometimes more. Sometimes just 1. It's bad, as I have issues with acid reflux which are exacerbated by it. But it's so good and I feel like utter crap without it. Plus, it helps keeps things... ahem.... regulated.

I have a Kcup machine and a Nespresso Latissma Pro.

The machines are basically for the wife. I use the Nespresso machine to froth milk for a hot chocolate... That machine is awesome and I'd highly recommend for any latte or espresso drinkers. One touch operation and they're delicious, but I rarely drink them.

I drink a cup after lunch.

I never wake up tired, but without some caffeine of some sort I'd feel like a nap almost every day between 1-2:30

Travel mug on the way to work. One more cup when I get there. I try to drink water after that. Once in a while I'll have an afternoon cup. Need the caffience however as I'll get a headache without it. Yes, this is called addiction

I don't speak Canadian.
I'm Canadian and dont get the Tim Horton's fascination, though the dark roast is an improvement. My grandma did win me a bike about 20 years ago though, so there's that.

At work, yes. At home, no. The first thing I do at work is start a pot of coffee. I'll drink a pot a day at work, but rarely drink coffee at home.

I use to drink coffee almost all day when I was in college (this was before energy drinks and easy access to Adderall - it was pretty much coffee or cocaine). Once I finished college, I was 3-4 cups a day.

Now I just drink two cups of half-decaf in the morning; I don't like the coffee jitters and I've seem to grow more sensitive to caffeine as I got older.

People also don't like the taste of alcohol but no one drinks it for the taste.

Really only started drinking coffee at three years ago at 28 when I met my wife. Hooked now though. Always one cup with breakfast and another on way to work.

If I'm super tired I'll have a cup in the afternoon but that's rare. I take a pre-workout that had a lot of caffeine in it a few nights per week and always a five hour energy before softball or golf.

During the week, I make a travel mug every morning; don't drink any after that. Weekends, I make coffee at most one of the two days, sometimes not at all. Don't really notice any difference on the days that I don't have it.

So I voted "No".
