Since i started the thread, I figured Id try and go as long as I can on a work day without coffee...

10:30am, and I still feel like I can slip into bed... moreso than usual.

But not yet agitated/snippy... Will report more later..

Meeting starts in 20min... that could be where everything goes wrong.

I drink a coffee, but I don't need a coffee.

Btw, is putting "a" before coffee a northern thing?

So I'm a yes and no...

Weekdays - I'm programmed to wake up, shower, get dressed, take the kid to daycare, and drive the ~1 hour to work without needing any coffee. Once I'm at work, I get my cup of garbage coffee and really wake up to function. If you ask me to do ANYTHING outside of my normal routine before I have my coffee, there are probably 75% odds that I will forget it or do it poorly. I rely heavily on routine to get me TO work. The cup of coffee at work isn't important. It's garbage from an automatic folgers brew machine. I drink it to wake up.

Weekends - I love to wake up and have a nice cup of coffee. It's more for the flavor and enjoyment than the caffeine. I'll make whatever I'm in the mood for...Disposable K-cup if I'm lazy, Re-usable K-cup (usually some random flavored brew, or my main go-to is Cafe Du Monde Coffee with Chickory), or if I'm really ambitious, some French press. Regardless, I just enjoy it and the flavor is a lot more important.

Mild hijack - My old Keurig died a few weeks ago. I bought one of the new Keurig 2.0's until I realized it had DRM software built into it and wouldn't brew old K-Cups. Something about Keurig controlling what kind of coffee I could and couldn't use REALLY ###### me off. Apparently their patent on K-cups ran out, so they now use this DRM via RFID or something in the cups to basically "lock" their machines unless the K-cup is one of theirs or a vendor who pays them a royalty. That's complete BS. So...I did some research and found the iCoffee Opus. Hands down, it's better than my old Keurig, and I like it more than the 2.0, which I returned. Yes. The coffee tastes different. It's stronger and a little less bitter. It brews via a spinning water jet needle so it more evenly soaks the grounds. It's A LOT hotter too...and it'll brew ANY K-cup, and comes with a reusable filter. If anybody is in the market for a new K-cup brewer, I'd highly recommend.

I drink about 40 oz a day. I get headaches the first day I miss it, but I find withdrawal symptoms go away fast. I've missed several days since my son was born and only really felt it the first day.

Nope. I've probably drank less than 20 oz. of coffee total in my entire life.
if you say no to "coffee" per se, then do you shun caffeine period... or simply replace the word "coffee" with "energy drink" "caffeinated soda", 5 hour energy, caffeine pill, Vitamin B supplement, etc?

I kind of wish I'd discovered caffeine sooner. I didn't really use in college because I didn't like coffee or cola and the only mention of caffeine pills was from Saved by the Bell, and when i was in college the energy drink thing hadn't really hit yet... but man I think I would have done a lot better in school if they had invented 5 hour energy or something similar... i sure slept through all or part of far too many lectures.

Only started drinking it in the last 6 months (I'm 44) or so - have 2 or 3 cups a week almost always in the afternoon.

I'm 45 and just started drinking coffee a year ago. Used to drink a Diet Coke every morning, then decided to give up drinking soda/pop so bought a Keurig and started drinking coffee.

for me its a caffeine addiction. If I dont have coffee in the am, having anything caffeinated later gives me a headache. And if I do not have caffeine I can get a headache as well, which I am sure is withdrawals.

Usually 1 large cup a day during the week. If I am home on the weekends 2-3 medium cups. If I have a morning soccer game on Sunday i have 1 small cup.

Update: 2:15pm, meeting ended... Could not concentrate, and feel like a sack of ####.

I have concluded that I cannot last a work day without coffee and keep my sanity. Pure addiction.

Off to grab a coffee now.

Im not even a big Tim's guy, but Ill have 1 a day at least just for my shot at some glory.
You don't have to be a Canadian to roll up the rim. I'm a huge TH fan; have the coffee pot and spend $$ to get the coffee for it.

That #### is gross...and how the hell do you people drink stuff that is hot?
i can't drink hot beverages either.

I make my coffee in the morning like anyone else, but i drink it at lunch time when it's room temp

also iced coffee is great

I didnt know they had the promotion down in the states too...

Ive only ever seen TH along the border... no clue how "Far south" TH goes.

My company has a Keurig, so Donut Shoo for me during the week.

Cafe Bustello at home on the weekends.

The biggest draw to me is that it's hot. I can't stand it at room temp :X If I get distracted and my coffee goes luke warm, I'll toss it in the microwave for 30sec.

We are actually talking about coffee and not beer.

I agree though. Nothing like a nice cold 40 in the AM before work. Really kills those monday blues

TH likes it as deep in the south as possible

2 cups every morning. Would suck without it.

I usually have 1 or 2 diet cokes during the day as well.

Never drink caffeine past 4pm. If I do that I can't sleep.

room temperature coffee? wtf
Yeah, I drink coffee room temp.. and I always buy flavored coffee as well, never the gross regular stuff. This week is Dunkin' Donuts "Roasted Almond" which tastes almost like Amaretto. Last week was "Apple Pie" which was terrible and next batch is Coconut which is awesome.

I'm 45 and didn't start drinking coffee until I was 40. Started with a lot of creamer, now I prefer it black.

Not a fan of iced coffee.

Never had hot chocolate as a kid?
Only after coming in from freezing temps after playing outside in the snow when I was under 10 years old.
So it's not some sort of weird physical issue of yours. Guess I don't understand your disbelief then. Ever eat soup? Or are you more of a borscht and gazpacho fan?

This is definitely one of the most ridiculous things I have read here in a while.

Newest Tim's is about 20 miles west of me in NW PA.

enjoying a nice room temp cup right now, Roasted Almond again. Good stuff!

Hot beverage = burnt palate every time.

I can't even eat my food very hot without burning my palate... it's very sensitive

Everything I insert in my mouth is between cold and slightly above room temp

Have about 3-5 cups of black a day. If I don't have any caffeine by about 1pm I get a massive headache.
This. I like my coffee to taste like coffee
It's a weird progression. I started drinking it with cream, sugar and some hot chocolate mix. First I dropped the hot chocolate mix and then a little bit of the sugar and then a little bit of the cream. Basically at some point, what was intolerably bitter to me eventually starts to taste watered down.

I don't avoid caffeine, but I don't seek it out either. I drink water all day. I have mostly juice and milk in my fridge.

The only thing I avoid is black tea (chinese restaurants) after 4pm cuz it wakes me up around 3am. I can drink soda with no problems sleeping but generally stay away from sugary beverages.

Half and half originally, then milk, and then the place I worked in college only had that powdered creamer crap. Learned to drink it black there. Kicked sweetener later on.

30 ounces pressed between 6 and 9 every morning and that's it for the day. It's a ritual at this point but I don't notice anything different when I go without.
Maybe I was wrong about that. I broke my press a couple days ago. Had no morning coffee yesterday. I was so caffiene deprived in the early afternoon I was nodding off.

I'm under construction and couldn't find a storage container I have in my garage with a very cool vacuum brewer, and old drip machine, and an Aeropress. So I bought this stainless press. For $24 and considering I've broken three Bodum borosilicate beakers in a little over a year, it was a no brainer. The exact same press is going for $50-70 with different branding at Amazon. I can't break this one and the added insulation has me wondering why I didn't go stainless long ago. The glass ones all have plastic bits that I never liked. So, imo, if you want to give French Pressed coffee a go, then take it from a junkie, buy the one in the link.

Almost took the bait on this one. It's $140 at BBandBeyond. I have limited counter space and try to keep all appliances off, but I'm curious about these single serving deals that are so popular. But I really enjoy sitting in my backyard with a 34 oz pot. I'm probably too lazy to walk back to the kitchen for each cup.

Yes.

Not for the caffeine, but it's been a ritual now for 25+ years. I drink one 16 to 20 ounce cup each morning. Once or twice a month i'll get a small coffee after lunch.
