So a week ago I did my shopping at a big box club and picked up a 1.5lb bag of shelled pistachios. The next day l got an e-mail from the store saying there was a recall due to salmonella. Checked the UPC codes and sure enough the bag I bought was recalled. Spent the next week destroying those pistachios and just threw away the empty bag away. Am I the only one who doesn't return recalled items?

Depends on the product. Food I'd just throw away. A recalled vehicle, stroller, car seat, etc I'd obviously return/get fixed

How does the store have your email?

I have no idea if I ever knew I had a recalled food item

It's a member club so you have to present your card for every purchase. I've bought stuff online which requires an e-mail so that's when l started getting recall e-mails.

Friend of mine last year had a recall on the ignition for his car.  Apparently cars were just shutting off while driving.  He had an appointment to take his in and sure enough a couple days before the appointment he was driving on the highway and the car shut off, he lost control, and ended up crashing and rolling the car.   He did not get seriously hurt but obviously that could have gone a lot worse.

Chevy was nice enough to give him a brand new truck and some cash, so that's good.  Reminded me of the scene in Fight Club where Edward Norton is explaining how they only do recalls if the cost of the recalls will be more than the cost of the impending lawsuits.

I just got a letter from Honda that my driver's side airbag could kill me but don't  worry, parts will be available this summer. I can't really park the car for 4 months so I guess I have to ignore it for now.
