Do you tip windshield replacement guys? (1 Viewer)

2 guys replacing my cracked windshield. I don't know if either one is the owner. It's like 15 degrees outside but they showed up 15 minutes after their scheduled window.

Do you tip? If so, how much?

In the freezing weather I always tip... Owner or not, someone is providing a service and freezing their ### off while doing it.

they aren't freezing. They wear coats and these things that cover your fingers and weird stuff like that, because it is, you know, their job.
Can you be more specific - what are these things that cover your fingers?

I had to change a flat tire last month in 15 degree weather, I had a hat, coat, & things that cover my fingers (not sure we are talking about the same thing?) yet I was absolutely freezing and couldn't have been more delighted to get back into the comfort of the heated car afterwards.

Sorry if tipping is so offensive to you.

Do you tip the mail carrier every day during the winter? They spend all day out in the cold. What about the highway crew? Do you slow down and make it rain on them?

I dont actually believe that people tip as often as they say they do on this site. Otherwise you would literally be handing money out 10 times a day. Based on the how much cash do people carry thread this is pretty much impossible.

The simple formula for tipping is:

Does their job depend on tips for their wages or did the person performing the service do something above and beyond.

So unless the guy that fixes your windshield also changed that tire for you or brought you lunch, tipping him would just be silly. If you tip the windshield guy for doing his job, it would pretty much mean you should be tipping every person you know that does their job.

My first job was a caddy, second job waiter, & third job bartender - I think most people that worked their youth through tipping related industries prob feel more compelled to tip. I understand how others in this situation say no tip, but I'd still prob drop the guy a few dollars.
