Do you use negative scoring for kickers? (1 Viewer)

We are pretty evil with our kickers:

Made:

0-39 yds: 3 pts

40 - 49 yds: 4 pts

50+ yds: 5 pts

XP: 1 pt

Missed:

0-39 yds: -3 pts

40-49 yds: -2 pts

50+ yds: -1 pt

XP: -1 pt

Never understood negative points for missed FG's, especially long ones... you already lose points because he missed... lose 3 more because of a miss from 48? Doesn't reflect a kicker's value very much...

We try to be fair. Missing a field goal over 30 yards doesn't usually mean the PK is incompetent, it's a lower probability kick, and they're penalized for not getting the points anyway.

Missing an extra point is bordering on incompetence, and so is penalized with -1

Missing a Field Goal under 20 yards is also something we deem necesary of a penalty. He missed a 12 yard field goal? Are you kidding? -1 for these.

Gone back and forth on the 20-30 yard distance on whether there should be a penalty. For now we have no penalty for missing in this distance.

I'll never understand negative K points. Are you just trying to make the position even more irrelevant? Why have one? Makes as much sense to me as scoring -6 to your RB for not getting a touchdown from the 1 yard line.

Same thing as giving negative points for turning the ball over or giving up sacks. Reward for consistency and accuracy, penalize for poor performance.

<30: -3

30-39: -2

40-49: -1

XP: -1

Then give negative points for yards lost on a play. Give negative points for penalties. Give negative points for not converting a 3rd and 1. Give negative points for dropping a catch. Give negative points for not punching in that TD from the goal line. Give negative points for wearing a 49'ers jersey.

There's something seriously wrong if a kicker misses a 12 yard field goal.

There's something seriously wrong if a WR drops a sure touchdown when he's wide open. That should be -6 points.

We give -3 for ALL missed field goals, regardless of the length.

Kickers are horrible pathetic creatures and the goal is to have everyone hate them, thus it's awesome watching a team be up by 2 points and have their kicker miss a 53 yard field goal and lose the game.

When kickers miss field goals in real life they screw their team, when they miss in FF they should as well.

Most scoring systems only allow kickers to have positive value to a team, every other position can get negatives, why allow these loser kickers to only score positive?

If kickers are "horrible pathetic creatures" then why bother having a K requirement? Other positions do not get negatives for failing to convert a scoring attempt.

Our favorite kicker story is when KC was playing Indy in a playof game many years ago. (Our playoffs occur during the NFL playoffs) One guy was ahead in his playoff game with only his kicker to go and the other guy was done. In horrible weather conditions, Lin Eliot ended up missing something like 3 FGs and the guy that was ahead ended up losing.

We don't give negative points for kickers, but we regularly give them wedges and leave them duct taped to the goal post.
