Does anybody know the True Future of Rudi? (1 Viewer)

Rudi Johnson seems to be on this Offseasons most unwanted list along with others like KJ/A.Green/T. Henry/and L. White(think he'll be there every year.) Rudi no doubt had the worst year of his career and has been noted as not being a game changer but has always been productive. Personally I never had much faith as I thought that he was just the guy that they had at the time but you can deny his production. There are several issues that point to the fall of Rudi:

1. Season lost to nagging injuries.

2. Never considered a Elite/Franchise back.

3. Constant drafting of replacements (who couldn't stay healthy)

4. Emergence of K. Watson (Although I really dont know how he is viewed in Cincy)

5. I'm not sure about this but I'm sure he should have a Cap Number issue coming pretty soon.

6. Very strong rb class that will threaten alot of veteran rbs.

With all that being said any Cincy homers have any insight on what lies in the future of Rudi. Seems to be a Buy low canidate this offseason. This is dynasty/keeper of course.

TIA

I don't think Lendale White is done, but he is a RB3 at best Rudi no doubt had the worst year of his career and has been noted as not being a game changer but has always been productive. not a cincy homer, but avoid Rudi Johnson. He's done in Cinci, and he'll be, at best, a bye-week RB3

Although productive, Rudi never really fit the offense. He was not a pass catcher so he pretty much was a straight ahead pounder. He fit the old style (Dillon years) but with CJ, Housh, Palmer and the more dynamic passing game they seem to want to replace him with more dynamic backs (Perry, Irons).

If Perry or Irons is healthy I think they will gradually take over for Rudi as they are a better fit for the offense. However, nbeither of them have shown that yet. Watson I think was just the guy that was left and showed what a pass catcher can do for them.

Unfort, I think Rudi would be one to avoid as his days are numbered, despite that being the prevelant thinking for several years now and it not happening until he got injured.

For that division, Wouldn't Rudi be the better back? Tough hard nosed runner to go against the likes of a Baltimore or Pitt def.

This is an easy one! (unless you are a psychic) nobody can predict the future 100% of the time...so the answer to your post question is no.

If I were a gambling man, I'd stay away from Rudi. I don't like the age/workload combo.

I'm not sure if most people know this, but Rudi signed a very "level" 5-year, $26mm contract in '05. Unlike most sizeable NFL contracts, it is not heavily back-loaded. Give or take, Rudi essentially makes $4mm per season. It's probably just low enough to keep him on the roster for the next two seasons where he'll be a UFA in '10.

With...

1) Chris Perry signed at roughly $1mm per year thru the '09 season.

2) Kenny Irons signed for essentially the same as Perry thru '10.

3) Kenny Watson's contract running thru the '09 season.

...the RB situation for FF purposes could be ugly in Cincy for the foreseeable future.

Within the division yes, but Cinci's offensive style is different that that division. They are a more pass oriented team and someone who runs hard but can also catch out of the backfield would be a better fit.

that's the wrong kind of back to send up against PGH and the Ravens. You need a fast guy who can get around the ends. Usually the Ravens and the Steelers are strong up the middle.

Bump. With the obvious deletion of Irons from the picture, I think Perry and Watson's status thru the '09 season allows the Bengals to shop Rudi. Plus, any team with interest in Rudi will not necessarily need to adjust Rudi's "level" contract.

Bengals are now shopping Rudi for a WR in case CJ can't return. Means Rudi's future is def done?
Link?
ROTO World sourceESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that the Bengals are shopping Rudi Johnson in trade talks.Mort says they're asking for a receiver: someone who could potentially help if Chad Johnson has a setback. We doubt Cincy could get anything for Rudi, but this may be a sign the team is ready to move on with Chris Perry and Kenny Watson. Johnson's roster spot could be in doubt; stay away from him in drafts.
