Does NFL team success affect FF (1 Viewer)

Last summer he was "the greatest thing since sliced bread" around here. He was ranked fairly highly in many rankings too. Where do you rank him now? Any thoughts on him for 2006?

Lee Evans was also a darling here last summer and with the switching QBs seemingly preferring one WR over another he seemed to fall out of favor some. Where does he rank for you now?

The Bills stunk last year. In 2005, they just missed the playoffs and were solid in almost every aspect including a super tough D that no team wanted to face in the playoffs and McGahee churning out 100 yard games almost every week, if not every week. Do you think NFL team success affects FF?

Have you ever knocked a player down your rankings because his team wouldn't be so good or bumped him up because you thought his team was an "up n comer"?

I mentioned the Bills because I think they're a good example, feel free to mention any other team I was just throwing one out there.

Winning and FF success are both results of a strong OL. I'd guess there's a correlation, but it isn't cause and effect, rather two effects.

Well, obviously team success is an important factor in how successful a player will be. If a team scores 700 points, they'll probably be a pretty darn good team. They'll also probably have a QB, an RB or two, a TE, a PK, and two or three WRs who all rank as "starter quality". On the other side, if the team only scores 200 points, they'll probably be lousy, and I'd be surprised if they had a single offensive player who was starter-quality in FF.

To put it simply- the more points an offense scores, the better the fantasy prospects of its players are. It's very simple, really. Likewise, on the flipside, the fewer points a team allows, the better the fantasy prospects of its defense (or IDPs) are going to be. So yes, team success definitely correlates to fantasy success.

Now, whether it's the be-all end-all is another question. Look at Neil Rackers last year. His team didn't score a ton of points, but he had such a disproportionately large percentage of those points that he blew away the competition. Same thing with Steve Smith- Carolina was far from the best passing attack, but he had such a ridiculous portion of Carolina's passing production that he was the #1 fantasy WR in the league.
